OFFICIAL Ben Hunt returns home to Broncos on two-year deal

Game changer.
How anyone can use his final year at St George to shut down how good this signing is...absolutely crazy!
Look at the sheer quality surrounding him here compared to who he had in that Dragons side.
For mine, it just adds another layer of strike, calmness and smarts that oppositions have to game plan for.
One thing I forgot about Bhunt and his time at dargons is his love for little kicks behind.

It's something we love to do already (Walsh, Reynolds and Mam), but it will be another very experienced and very good player at doing it coming into the team.

Bhunt is very much an off the cuff type of player... he could explode not having to do any of the game management outside Reynolds.

Just imagine the terror of opposition defence's seeing Bhunt lined up on a short side and having to decide on whether to protect against Bhunt on the blind side or Reyno and Walsh on the open.

Actually pretty excited about him arriving now.

He plays for the current qld team and nearly won the dally m medal 2 years ago, would you rather jock madden and josh rodgers at 5/8th

He plays for QLD off the bench as a utility, which is essentially what he will be here. It's not that difficult to win a Dally M if you're the only big name player in the team.

I'd rather a 5/8 playing as a 5/8. He will be unbelievably handy though when Reynolds gets a strain.

We all want him to do well but let's not go past what we're actually getting here. I think we got the price right, which is the big thing.

On paper it's a great signing.

It solves the biggest concern for the club, Reynolds immediate successor. None of the current suitors at the club are ready for the responsibility and while Hunt is older he is in better condition and offer that bridge between now and 2027.

It also solves the immediate problem of Mam's replacement and buys Ezra some time to work his way up through QCup.

On paper it makes sense, but will it align with reality? Hunt is 35 and in big game situations inspires little confidence. His decision making is awful and despite the Dragons building their entire organisation around him, he couldn't even take them into a finals series.

Also what's the catch? We were led to believe the salary cap was extremely tight, who is making way?

It really could go either way, but if nothing else it adds a lot of excitement to the Broncos and I could only imagine how good the Super Freak video will be if Hunt scores the match winner in the GF, 10 years later after we all had our hearts broken.

It gives us three long kicking options with him, Reynolds and Walsh too. Most teams are lucky to have one.

If Mam comes back with the bit between his teeth as well, this becomes the scariest spine in the comp alongside Melbourne.

Like look at this team:
1. Walsh
2. Arthars
3. Staggs
4. Mariner
5. Cobbo
6. Mam
7. Reynolds
8. Jensen
9. Hunt
10. Haas
11. Piakura
12. Riki
13. Carrigan

14. Mozer
15. Willison
16. Taupau / Te Kura / Semu
17. Hetherington

That is a scary team if Maguire can get them playing anything close to 2023 level.

Yes we have poor depth in the second row and the backs are a big question mark but having two legit experienced guns in the spine plus livewires in Mam and Walsh, who do you focus on? Opposition defenses will be having nightmares.

If the 600k salary is accurate, fantastic deal.

How he works with Reynolds will be interesting. I assume Hunt plays left?
He’s also a 9. Should be able to play everywhere.

So far according to my Dragons supporting work mate-

He isn’t actually very good anymore
He will refuse to play 9 if asked
He is a cancer that will tear the dressing room apart.
When told on that last point that he won’t be captain and will be able to take a back seat a little more here, he pointed out that Walsh and Carrigan are about to walk out of the club because McGuire isn’t letting them leave early from training to get home now.

Yeah Dragons fans are salty as hell about this.

Literally one of two dragons that tried all year and both gone lmaooooo

The optics of this signing alone are amazing.

In years past, put into the position it was with Mam, the club would have said **** it, winged it and gone with some half baked bullshit band aid solution like Walters or Staggs at 6 for 12 rounds, and meekly wear the consequences right in the face.

This time, we identified the best possible option available to us that not only keeps the teams cohesion where it needs to be, but also means we'll be stronger than we we were before when Mam returns, and despite the tough salary cap situation, we damn well made it work and made sure we got our man against the odds. That's the sort of ruthless recruiting we haven't seen from this club in a long time.

Welcome back, Dozer. It's redemption time.

How many years has hunt been playing disgruntled at the dragons? He’s going to have a big season. Happy wife too I’m sure.
I hope we see origin tier dozer for a fair few games this year. This has all the hallmarks of an epic finale to his and ARey's career. With Madge here busting the youngins into shape, I'm actually excited for '25 - massive turn around from 3 months ago.

Buy them a pack of salt and vinegar chips.

So much pressure is off him now too.
At the dragons he was expected to do everything and carry that side, never really had any players brought in to give him a hand
He has a lot of help here now.
