Re: Bennett not to return

Bennett was never coming back & I am glad he isn't.

I think he will sign with Souths. That's why GI signed with them.

Re: Bennett not to return

so we're re-signing Griffin......does that mean he'll be given the boot in a few months like Henjak was after we re-signed him?

I think he'll sign with the Knights, well I hope he does.

1. Crowe is a douche
2. Most Souths fans are dickheads
3. Knights are the heart of that area
4. It will be a change from Sydney for him
5. It's more laid back than Sydney

The big one would be the huge junior base he would be able to work with. I think he's probably got a hard on just thinking about it.

Re: Bennett not to return

Personally, I'd like to see him at the Knights. It'd be great to see him restore that region and if he can take Mullen, Houston and possibly Paterson to the next level.

Re: Bennett not to return

NEWSFLASH: Bennett returning to old stomping ground.

Wayne Bennett will join Canberra Raiders as David Furner's co-coach in 2012. Bennett, who co-coached with David's father, Don at the Raiders in 1987, felt he had unfinished business at the club.

"We went to a Grand Final in 1987 before I left, and I see a similar player pool growing there now.

"Back then I was learning and had the privilege to work under Don Furner, and I see a lot of myself in young David. I feel the challenge to win a premiership with the Raiders for the first time since 1994 and to groom David into one of the game's premier coaches is irresistible".

Ummmm - he's never been in Sydney. He's been living in Woolloongong these past 3 years and that is definitely different from Sydney and a seriously laid back place [icon_razz1

This. Although it's more me hoping he will go to the knights, rather than me thinking he will go there.

Agreed especially point #2. I've never known such arrogant fans for a shit club in any sport.

Re: Bennett not to return

Despite their current record against us I've sort of pitied Newcastle. Once they were this proud mecha of Rugby League with a squad that would leave most teams envious to just an ordinary side who's best players can never seem to make it onto the field.

THE NRMA Insurance Broncos today announce that Anthony Griffin has accepted an offer to be the club’s long-term coach and that negotiations with any other coach, including Wayne Bennett, have been completed.

Griffin has accepted a two-year extension of his current contract, that will cover the 2012 and 2013 NRL seasons.

The move came after negotiations with Bennett were concluded last night.

“I am delighted to announce that Anthony Griffin will be head coach of the Brisbane Broncos until at least 2013,” said Broncos chief executive Paul White.

“Anthony has served a long and distinguished apprenticeship in both the NRL and the Queensland Cup and has also made a strong impression in guiding the Broncos to a good start this season.

“He has impressed greatly with his man management skills, his strategic thinking and his technical capabilities; he is a coach that players want to play for.

“We have an outstanding young roster and Anthony has had much to do with their development over the years.”

White said the club had been transparent in their negotiations with Bennett and said the club felt comfortable with the completed negotiations and in making Griffin’s long-term appointment.

“This announcement brings to a conclusion the club’s negotiation with Wayne Bennett,” said White.

“We met with him last night and he confirmed that he wants pursue other options.

“He was greatly appreciative that the club had opened the door for a return. Wayne’s legacy at this club cannot be challenged and he still has a passion for the club.

“He will speak for himself but he did endorse the direction of club and Anthony’s appointment, whom he first brought to the Broncos.

“I feel very comfortable that the board and I worked as hard we could to make it happen, but Wayne is entitled to make a decision for his next role in the best interest of himself and his family.”

Griffin, who has been head coach since replacing Ivan Henjak in February, said he was pleased to have secured an elongated tenure.

“It’s an honour to be officially endorsed as the next head coach of the Brisbane Broncos,” he said.

“Whichever way this turned out I was comfortable with the process the club went through and was always looking forward to a future with the club.

“I will now get on with the job of making the rest of the season as successful as possible.”
