Neither Walters or Paix are good enough to play 80 mins every week, so the Broncos have no choice but to play them both. Paix would probably struggle if he didn't come in after forwards start getting fatigued and Walters would probably look like Macca 0.8 or 0.9 if he played the whole game too. To be honest, I think if a hooker can't influence the game while taking a breather like Smith could, you don't really need them to be out there for the whole 80.

I think that would be something interesting to see actually, like those Cobbo clipped video of all his involvements, one with Billy to see what is happening when he does his runs, because from what I can remember it's not always him being selfish and never planning to pass like last year but there not actually being an option in the first place, the most interesting would be what are we doing in Dummy half when there is no markers, I assume because we have the best forward pack we would be getting alot of that.

Thing is not only does your hooker have to recognise an opportunity but also the other players need good ruck recognition. Ballin does a lot of work with Walters, Smoothy, Paix and Mozer but I think he needs to do work with the other players too.

Yesterday with Mozer was the cleanest break from a "Broncos" hooker and is fresh in my mind so use that- Te Kura has skittled two Dolphins third goes back to the line and two are on the ground.

Mozer goes to dummy half It's in no way a quick play the ball but the A and markers are in chaos Mozer is looking right but then looks straight ahead the defender has gone back to A and the other two are standing side by side facing the sideline not Te Kura.

Mozer picks it up and goes to the right of Te Kura and moves through past those two markers and the A defender from before dives but does nothing- Sailor is behind him and already moving forward- Mozer goes from 20-20 and passes to Sailor who by now is backing up inside.

When Mozer breaks the line Sailor is sprinting already. He's recognised the situation.

I don't think enough of the Broncos players know what they're looking for and the situation that will make a hooker run.

That wasn't a quick play the ball and if you were just going off that you'd not bothering supporting the hooker.

First time paix has been given free reign at the backend of the game and we run riot and it is points galore. This needs to be experimented with ALOT more. Walters struggled with it in the second half at the end of the season last year as well, when we freefell out of the 8.

sadly I doubt the billy Walters “experiment” will be over anytime soon.

I've been hearing about Blake Mozer non stop since he was playing juniors, but never seen any footage of him. I tried to log into something called the "Hostplus Cup" yesterday, but I kept getting the error message "this stream only supports one viewer, and you have to be older than 100, please try again later."

Still his biggest fan, though.

Remember a few years back when everybody just assumed you were a storm fan? That was when billy and Kev were at the club now that I think about it. Makes a shitload of sense seeing as you seem to be an actual broncos supporter these days.

The difference I notice between the two is getting more pronounced, Billy is looking for runs constantly, I wouldn't doubt for a second he does more dummy runs then any other hooker in the competition, when Paix comes on he is more pass orientated and his passing is improving, he can get some fast silky long passes out lately which get's us some good edge ball with our halves.

If Kev is giving billy license for the dummy runs I think the fault lies on Walsh to be there in support, if they can work this combination I think it could be a lethal one two punch because Billy's runs lately do seem to have a bit more punch he is getting plenty of half line break chances just with no one available for support in the same postcode.

It does look like he is just doing them and it wasn't to script though, which I think is something the coaches have to look at if this is the case, not because he shouldn't be doing them but because there needs to be organised support for when it happens, many tries can come from those plays.

...it's not ALL completely on BW, when he runs and finds himself stranded.

and I don't see much of a difference from our "runners" when Paix is on either.

It does look like he is just doing them and it wasn't to script though, which I think is something the coaches have to look at if this is the case, not because he shouldn't be doing them but because there needs to be organised support for when it happens, many tries can come from those plays.

Should have a call for a quick PTB ("quick" will do here) and one for other situations where the DH spots something. In both cases the surrounding players should take note and push up in support.

Alot of Dummy runs are off there being no markers or they are in a ineffectual position, this is something that other players should be made aware of themselves rather then being told at the time when it happens.

Because it happens within seconds. The half should run or have someone like Walsh running off his hip the moment they realise there’s no marker. The rest of the team need to realise when it’s happening the same time Walters notices

Not every dummy half run needs to be a try. If he’s making ten metres he’s doing his job
