What role should Billy Walters play?

Speaking of hyperbole. He's not our full time 6 and every single person here knows that. Have you watched him play recently? He's been absolutely killing it and involved in plenty of try scoring and try stopping plays. Even on one leg.

You're asking a stupid question, which isn't surprising. But I also feel like you don't watch rugby league and wait for Buzz or Moley or some dork who has never played the sport to tell you what you should think first.
Dude, drain your nutsack. I've had nothing but praise for Billy the last few weeks.

This isn't a question you need to cry over.

His apparent adaptability doesn't make him the greatest, but I do think that Billy could easily fall under "the difference" umbrella.
I agree he's covered his role with aplomb, but so have his opposite numbers. My point is you usually have to be not just good, but one of the very best in the NRL, to land the 6 jersey. In any club.

You have to compare him to the likes of Dearden and Munster.

And now you're disputing that he's played a large part in our wins. Did you watch the games? He's been huge.

Also in round 27 of 2025 he wouldd be playing
6 for Manly over Luke Brooks
7 at Warriors over Tanah Boyd
9 at Roosters over Benaiah Ioelu
14 at the Raiders over Owen Pattie
Wherever he wants at the Rabbits
6 or 7 at the Dragons
6 at the Titans over Foran
7 at the Tigers over Fainu
9 at the Sharks over Brailey
9 at the Dolphins over Marshall-King
9 at the Eels over Smith
6/7 or 9 at the Knights

And the main one, number 6 for the Brisbane Broncos.

No you don't. You have to compare his efforts in the games we are discussing, how he fits in the team and what he is doing on the field. How did Dearden go last week?

Yes, let's compare him to Australian representative halves. Honestly? Chalk and cheese.

Try comparing him to the other #6's in the game like Flanagan, Brooks, Trindall, Niko, Arthur, CHT, Foran etc. He well and truly holds his own in that list, which is pretty good considering the number of games he's played in the halves over the past few years and what his actual role HAS been.

Yes you have been positive about him recently, which has been good to see. The bloke absolutely belongs at NRL level. He would do anything for this club - playing on for half an hour with a ****ed ACL on the weekend proves it.

Nope. Never said that. Did you read any of my posts in the last month?

I get that your comprehension is basic, but my question was about poaching him for a starting 6, not how well he's executed Madge's gameplan in the last month. Which, has been great.

Yes, I think he's earned his place as a useful utility and depth player.

I ask this in the context of him being replaced this week, and whether someone like Jock Madden could do the same limited role. I ask because I think Madge should be getting more credit for how he's used Billy.

So you got a guy here he helped his team to a PF as a 9 and as a 6...regardless of how stupidly one argues against him (and at this point it is just embarrassing), you can't help but respect that. I can't think of too many other players who have done that in two very different positions - Lockyer, Shaun Berrigan, Greg Inglis and Luke Lewis?...Ruben Wiki? come to mind.

That's pretty good company to be in.

I don't think that's a fair comparison.

Kev gave Billy the news on recruitment, that he wouldn't be playing 6, even though Billy's heart wanted that.

He reminds me of Shaun Berrigan in that, not sure what his best position is, but he needs to be in the team. He's a supersub in my mind. His game time in the last 20 minutes changes the game.

Is he a 6? He can play the role with distinction. Is he a gun like Munster at 6? No, but his style at 6 is bringing Walsh into the game.

Criticism earlier on in the year was too many cooks in the kitchen; Hunt, Mam, Reynolds, Walsh. Billy seems to accept his role as a vital link, so others can shine. I think he is an important resign.

The fact that Walters has been playing this good while being paid, what $250 - $300k a year at most? And people are bitching that in reality he may not be good enough to displace $700k - $1m players in other teams? **** off, a Walters and his balls-out effort and modest pay check allows us to afford Haas or Walsh, he is everything a team should want.

Defensively he's probably one of the better 6's because of his time at 9.

A team can win a premiership with him at at 6 or 9 or 14, that's about the only question that needs answering. That's an emphatic yes from me. Dream utility player that doesnt leave anything out on the field.

Maybe one of the best value players in the comp.

Some people on this forum are just so desperate for their opinion to be proven right, they can't ever fully admit to being wrong. There's always a shifting of the goalposts.

Imagine how insufferable they'd be now if they'd got on board the Billy train when he arrived, though...
