Brisbane Broncos close to settling their 2017 roster

Surely there is a few mature forwards coming this way and some depth in the backs and hooker/halves

Cap goes up in 18 doesn't it? Thank **** if it does because 17 is going to be a struggle to hold them all

Priority of signings:

1. Ben Hunt/Anthony Milford/Andrew McCullough/Darius Boyd (we must keep this spine together)
2. Corey Oates
3. Josh McGuire
4. Adam Blair
5. Jordan Kahu

6. James Roberts
7. Alex Glenn
8. Jack Reed

I'd swap Kahu and Blair and say that from 5-8 are all expendable.

Jahrome Hughes has signed with the Storm, young Five-Eighth/Fullback from the Cowboys. Probably bodes well for the chances of Nikorima staying, I doubt he'd go to Melbourne to sit in reserve grade, which is what he was doing for the Cowboys.

Inglis will retire in Brisbane but is no chance of playing for the Broncos next season or in his next contract.

What the hell does that mean? Do they mean he will retire to Brisbane after he hangs up his boots for good, in that he'll move up here to live? Or are they expecting the Broncos to give him a contract when he is well and truly past it? Odd phrasing....

It means he will move to Brisbane and live here after he retires from football.

He has only been with the Cowboys this year after a great year with the Blackhawks last year. His contract was only one year.

Very good player. Good signing for the Storm if he gets a run.

I reckon Blair needs to stay, I could handle Reed and Glenn playing elsewhere... As much as I like Alex.G and can't fault his work rate I prefer a harder to handle 2nd rower... I'm looking forward to seeing Oates in the role

I honestly can't see Oates going to the forwards. This was spoken about a bit in Origin camp just out of interest and he's identical measurements to Inglis who has never moved to the forwards. I don't really see the huge need for him to move.

There definitely isn't a need at the moment, especially when we are light on quality outside backs, but I think he could be so damaging running lines of our halves and could ruin teams. If he did move into the forward it would obviously at least a couple of years in the future.

The difference between Oates & Inglis is how they play, young Inglis had a step, great fend, faster off the mark and a higher top speed than Oates - All things that equate to a good long-term back, Oates has decent speed, runs straight, hits hard - These probably relate to a long-term forward, especially once he starts to lose a bit of his speed & athleticism as he ages, I think it's almost inevitable he moves in field later on in his career at some point.

The is absolutely no rush to move him into the second row

Inglis was faster than Oates? He must've been pretty quick, Oates is second fastest at the club just behind Roberts isn't he?

Absolutely, the biggest difference was how fast Inglis could accelerate in his early years, but I have no doubt his top speed was faster than Oates as well, albeit slightly.
