230k a season isn't bad. Most props hit their prime at 25 so Garbutt could be a late bloomer like Brenton Lawrence.

I have no opinion as to whether this is a good signing or not but there's one massive alarm bell going off - he is 25. If he's so talented why has he played **** all games by now? Has he not been applying himself the past 5 years?

I struggle to think of players who played so few games by 25 that turned out to be very good.

Because he is a prop and most props are shit until the reach 25 or so.

You do realise props aren't like wingers. Apart from the odd exception most of them are average until mid twenties.

To be fair, we thought we had signed one in the off-season. We were wrong. We were wrong about a lot of props Broncos have signed. It seems to be the one recruitment area the Broncos are terrible at.

He certainly looks promising and 230k is nothing in today's game but it's still an odd thing for him to have played so little.

He was out of favor, he had problems in his game. He ran sideways too much and forced a lot of offloads. Ever since his former coach Craig Miller pointed that out, he has been a far better prop. One of the standouts in the reserve grade. He has started playing more direct and doesn't try forcing unnecessary offloads.

We have signed a good one. He will be a great signing for us.

Exactly.

It's hardly a huge gamble when he's only on a smallish contract figure.

Here's hoping he turns out to be the prop we so desperately need.

I think that's a very good point.

In hindsight alarm bells should have been ringing with Kennedy when no other clubs were interested and the chooks were only too happy to let him go
