Brisbane Broncos Sign Mitch Garbutt till 2017

25 for an outside back is old as a rookie. For a prop
Not so much. Let's not forget these guys play till 35 now.

Its an interesting signing and I'm not really sure what to make of it. There is a front rower debuting this weekend for the warriors who is pretty handy and is uncontracted for next year so he would be one worth watching this weekend. I think his name is ignatius pasi. Also I wonder what the garbutt signing means in regards to the broncos chase of trent merrin.... yep there it is for all to see now. The club tried to keep it quiet but it was all the talk recently in sydney. Im not sure how far down the road they are or even if they have started negotiating yet but its on the cards for the club to make a move for him.

Good signing IMO, the only niggly doubt is forwards often look better than they are in the Storm system and don't seem to reach the same level at other clubs,

I'm sure it is on the proviso that he is in form. Maybe just a guarantee that he will start the season in the 17, much like Kennedy.

I wonder what this means for blokes like Hala, Molo, Wallace. Hopefully this puts pressure on them to step up a gear.

We'll lose Hannant, and we pretty much have to play McGuire in the Front Row due to our stocks of Second Rowers, so you'd imagine our Front Row rotation would be: McGuire, Parker, Garbutt, Molo/Hala/Wallace. Unless the coach decides to play the worlds best Lock at Lock, then those 3 guys would be playing for 2 bench spots, not 1.

I have no opinion as to whether this is a good signing or not but there's one massive alarm bell going off - he is 25. If he's so talented why has he played **** all games by now? Has he not been applying himself the past 5 years?

I struggle to think of players who played so few games by 25 that turned out to be very good.

He's at Melbourne right? So possibly because he's stuck behind the Bromwich brothers, Bryan Norrie, George Rose etc?

A bit different that he gets to play for Easts if he isn't making first grade. He must really love Easts to want that in his contract.

Garbutt is in Easts lineup for today's ISC match on Nein.

A thought just occurred to me - is signing this guy a bit of insurance in case McGuire leaves? Apparently the Panthers are chasing him.

Looking good too. Hard running with pretty good footwork for his size. Nice offload too, and doesn't push it unless it's on.

Really think he's a good pick up for us. I'd be stoked if we could pick up another bruiser for next season. Our backline and halves are looking sweet but some more muscle up front would be great.
