NEWS Brisbane coach Anthony Seibold is optimistic about Broncos’ future

I think the main issues he could and should have dealt with, Boyd and Macca being the obvious ones. He had no real excuses in that regard.

I disagree, he had plenty of excuses. After releasing McGuire, Kahu, Roberts, Nikorima and Su'A the squad was light on viable alternatives. Seibold was already relying far too heavily on the young up and comers, throwing more into the deep end wasn't going to solve matters and the squad had turned a corner after the Cronulla Sharks game. Throw in injuries and realistically he could only make the most of his situation.

I don't think that absolves him of all the blame. There were clear deficiencies in the side that can only be solved by good coaching, but to say he had no real excuse is completely unfair.

There was a pretty clear split in the group to be fair. The older guys are all not particularly stoked with the changes implemented, and there has been push back and a large chunk of negativity from a nucleus. Some now gone, others still around.

The young guys all bought in. The senior group didn’t. Hence the implosion at the end.

Welp, at least the problem ones made themselves stand out from the outset. I don't give a shit if Seibold is trying to implement a more modern "Wrestlemania" style of play (which I am quite open in my disdain for), you're welcome to your opinion but what the coach says goes, no questions asked. If you don't agree, you are the one obligated to move on.

So by 'senior group", and "older guys", can we safely assume that this is a reference to 2 much 'spoken about' players here on BHQ in particular (we all know who those 2 are). If that is the case, why were they being selected each week and poisoning the rest of the team with their negativity and shitty attitudes? Why didn't Seibold stamp his authority and kick their arses out? As you said, they are "still around". Jesus christ what a cluster ****.

If these core senior players are still hanging about the team with their toxicity, what the hell is Seibold going to do about it - keep on selecting them or grow a pair and turf them? We can hazard a guess these senior players would be Boyd, Macca, Glenn, Gillett, Milford..anyone else I miss?? Seems pretty obvious doesn't it.

To be fair, in terms of senior players you could cast the net a bit wider and include Glen, Gillett, Bird, Milford and Oates and not just single out the other two.

No you're right mate, I did correct that with an edit. It was pretty poor of me to blame 2 players only just because they are most often criticised.

I really don't know how Seibold is going to manage this situation though. If it is left to fester, our 2020 season could be derailed before it even begins.

Me either FIH, and it has to be dealt with otherwise we are looking at another long season. As a wise man once said `A house divided against itself cannot stand'.

Nice insight! Was this something looked at in the end of season review?

That nikorima is nothing but trouble.

It is insightful Tom, no doubt about that. But in my opinion it is also very very damning. Many of us here discussed the possibility of a split in the playing group to explain the pathetic and heartless performances throughout the year. But we were only assuming this might be the case and deep down hoping we were wrong.

For Joe to come out and actually confirm this issue really was a factor throughout the year, well, that changes everything doesn't it. What the hell does that say about the way the team is coached and the way the club is run in general. Who has control? A certain clique within the team? A group who wields more power than the coach it would seem.

Hopefully that's the last we've seen of the clique faithy. We all know who they are, they had their chance. Seems they can't handle being footballers unless they are being coddled by you know who, I'd rather a group with a much harder edge.

Amen to that brother. It really is mind boggling that some of these blokes could even refer to themselves as professional league players. They act more like self-entitled, pampered soft-*****.

To carry on with their toxic attitudes for the whole season, instead of getting over their grievances and getting in and having a dig like the young fellas, well that is unforgivable to me as a fan. They have done their dash and never deserve to pull our jersey on again.

Yeah why did only a handful of players go for ice cream? The whole squad should have went down, with Milford shouting every player a scoop.

Milford and Dearden are a paradox of talent that will have an even worse effect on each other than Milford and Nikorima
Word salad, Deepak Chopra style. Sounds deep, means nothing. Paradox of talent! Ha ha. Should have written Panadol of Torrent! About the same value.

Maybe the more experienced players are having a hard time copping what seibold is trying to sell because he has no clue what he’s doing? And the younger players are more willing to listen because they don’t know any different?

I'm not so sure its a clique as such because Boyd, Macca, Gillo, Glenn are all very, very well liked by the other guys. As i said before, i havent come across a single player yet who hasnt been positive about Seibs and his coaching.

Name me any of the Manly, Eels, Dogs, Titans players who failed to back their coach to the hilt. They all have had some shockers that make our duds look like giant killers. Trade Anthony for Trent Barret or Steve Kearny anyone?
