NEWS Brisbane coach Anthony Seibold is optimistic about Broncos’ future

Milf is 25ish, he has the opportunity to kick on and become very disciplined from here. Hes quite fortunate to have the game experiences hes had to such a young age. If he cant get his shit together in the next 12 months in the professional athlete department, there's not much you can do.

When Boyd was out the back it was Milford, Knik, TPJ, **** lots of them letting players through. Boyd was constantly trying to stop the flow but the defence was porous. When Boyd shifted forward he hardly missed a tackle. Milford was atrocious in defence when at fullback and didn't seem to be in position most of the time.

Oh. So in neither position was it Boyd's fault. Right.

I've made this point before, and confirmed it by watching 2018-2019 games on Kayo. Milf was constantly cleaning up messes that Boyd at fullback ought to have cleaned up.

Not saying Milford doesn't have his deficiencies - but it's basically beyond argument that he was covering for Boyd far too much. Stretched too thin, so to speak. You've made the silly argument time and time again, basically coming off as an apologist, for Boyd's poor efforts. No one buys it.

Well I hope Seibold read him the riot act in those end of season reviews. He really needs to shape up or ship out.

Here is a grown man getting paid big dollars yet he acts like one of the boyz just out of high school judging by what some people here have alluded to. There's only so many chances he can be given to turn it around.

Yes, he hasn't had a whole lot of support when it comes to a decent halves partner, but he needs to be the one taking control and setting an example - both on AND off the field.

How fucking hard is it to eat clean Jesus Christ.

.... I say as I drink my 4th beer on a Tuesday lol. But seriously, you get paid near on a million a season it can’t be difficult to not drink gallons of coke.

It's not so much what he eats.

Yes mate, pretty much what I was talking about. Plus continuing to play Turpin at halfback and given our halves situation I had a real question mark about the decision to move Milford to fullback as well.
I think he played those choices pretty well actually...

There was a lot of internal politics not allowing him to drop Boyd. Macca was a little different but essentially the same, he had pressure on him to keep Macca in the side once Dearden and SOS dropped out of the race

Joe, are you not concerned though about our halves situation, particularly the likelihood now that we can't/won't even land Croft because we are expecting Storm to pay a large chunk of his salary? The Kahu situation, more wasted money and a position in the top 30 squad. Boyd and Macca still hanging round like a bad smell.

I am not seeing much to be optimistic about for next season yet. All that talk and huffing and puffing from Seibold and the Board after that final game and yet it all still appears to be the status quo. The usual suspects still in the picture and us fans still seeing the same shit dished up in 2020 is what I fear.
Kahu situation was writing on the wall before Seibold

So by 'senior group", and "older guys", can we safely assume that this is a reference to 2 much 'spoken about' players here on BHQ in particular (we all know who those 2 are). If that is the case, why were they being selected each week and poisoning the rest of the team with their negativity and shitty attitudes? Why didn't Seibold stamp his authority and kick their arses out? As you said, they are "still around". Jesus christ what a cluster ****.

If these core senior players are still hanging about the team with their toxicity, what the hell is Seibold going to do about it - keep on selecting them or grow a pair and turf them? We can hazard a guess these senior players would be Boyd, Macca, Glenn, Gillett, Milford..anyone else I miss?? Seems pretty obvious doesn't it.
.... Because they have contracts?

I firmly believe that if a club fires a coach, all contracts at that club must then be renegotiated with the incoming coach.

That'll give a coach a better chance of getting their roster and cap right straight off the bat and not 3-5years down the track

Maybe the more experienced players are having a hard time copping what seibold is trying to sell because he has no clue what he’s doing? And the younger players are more willing to listen because they don’t know any different?
Oh FFS

why does Boyd fucking up negate the deficiencies of Milford, Ofa, TPJ and everyone else who missed tackles or fell asleep at marker during every single one of those Boyd missed tackles? Not a single person, no matter what people think, have said Boyd wasn’t at fault. He was poor all year, but so was the entire team. Milf needed to cover for himself and focus on his own job. He needs to get in a diet and stop drinking soft drinks. He’s our main player and needs to do far better.

This isn’t a Boyd thread. Comparing them has been done to death. They both need to go. Replace them with Croft and Ponga and start again.

I'd take Croft and Ponga in a heartbeat.

Sorry, but my man Huge was constantly saying 'what could Boyd do?' when it was obvious he was doing as little as possible. Taking a knee, turning his back to the high ball - contrast that to Milford making the last ditch fullback tackle so often. Taking bombs, knocking the ball dead in danger situation - all while Boyd (c) watched on. Singular point of contrast.

I agree with you on the rest. Except to point out that Milford's deficiencies are exacerbated by shitty service from his 1, 7 and 9. Less so in reverse. Not totally so, but less so.

It was part of his release not part of his contract. His release was done earlier this year.

So essentially Seibold took a gamble with the hope some club would pick up Kahu and now it has come back to bite him on the ass in some respects? Not that I am completely blaming Seibold mind you but for me, he has a target on his back at the moment and deserves most of the arrows coming his way.

Milford’s skills do not rely on the 1, 7 and 9 at all times though. His deficiencies don’t only arise when they are passing him the ball. Plus he’s the million dollar player, why can’t we blame his service for their poor form as well? He doesn’t play like a team player, he’s not setting them up for anything either like a million dollar player should. The excuses for his poor form are endless.

If he played like he does in the last ten minutes when we are behind by a fair bit for an entire 80 minute period he’d be the best player in the game. He almost always scores or sets up a try when we are bound to lose. Like our own Shaun fucking Johnson

Well that severely discounts how many times he has also won us games off individual brilliance.

How are you going to blame him for Macca's shit game? Or Boyd's? Or Niko's?

Macca passes him the ball - he more than half the time passes it the wrong direction, while Milf is screaming for it.

Boyd is the fullback - yet Milf is constantly cleaning up after him.

Niko was our 7 - but was busted Hunt 2.0. Not a proper seven, and everyone knows it.

Put just about any quality six in that set up, you would get the same result I believe.

Yes, Milford should step up. His kicking game was just about the best in the comp last year, at the expense of his running game. He needed to improve, and did. He's capable - but it keeps being said, because it's true, he needs support. Wayne fucked up his progression, Seibs is dealing with it. Hopefully.

He also needs to just be his absolute best, even if the rest of the team sucks. Gravitate to Haas, Fifita, TPJ etc and stop shuffling it to Glenn every set.

Lest we forget your endless posts about scapegoating Boyd and Macca - turns out those of us saying it were 100% correct, and we would be a much better footy team if those two were moved on two years ago.
