Broncos - 2015 Discussion

i thought he said 'big bopper' or something lol but it makes no difference people are reading the speculation as fact rather than the quote. Bennet pretty much was saying he will have 3 forwards and a utility. everything else is speculation. whether glenn/oates are utilities is another question but it would most likely mean parcell + oates/glenn + 2 props.

he has Glenn who is able to play hooker

That's so far from the truth it's not even funny.

Hooker is seriously the most underappreciated position these days, especially at the Broncos.

Hooker is vital no doubt but I think it's a case if Macca can't finish a game you could use Glenn not Glenn coming on as hooker every game

THERE was a time when Anthony Cherrington feared he would rot in a jail cell.
Today, he talks with sincerity about being kind to people ... a “good karma” he hopes will sweep him towards a Broncos jumper in his shock rugby league resurrection in Queensland. If the name has a familiar ring, it’s with good reason. Six years ago, Cherrington was the NRL’s next big thing at the Sydney Roosters. The Kiwi wrecking ball was just 20 when named in New Zealand’s World Cup squad in 2008.A year later, his world fell apart, with Cherrington lashed by a magistrate and narrowly avoiding a jail sentence after pleading guilty to assaulting his former partner. The couple briefly reconciled, having two children, but Cherrington’s football career never recovered. Crippled by three knee injuries, he played the last of his 19 top-grade games in 2009 and joined Penrith last year seeking a new start.

Now Cherrington finds himself in Brisbane, training weekly with the Broncos, his NRL flame still flickering after signing with Intrust Super Cup affiliate side Redcliffe. At 26, the 194cm, 110kg Cherrington cuts a monstrous figure at Broncos training and is still young enough to rebuild a career shattered by injury and off-field turbulence.“I only signed two weeks ago,” said Cherrington, whose children Moses, 3, and Christine, 2, live on the Sunshine Coast.“It’s a bit of a change, but being out of Sydney will help me and bring me closer to my kids.“One of the guys at Redcliffe, Luke Capewell, I played with him at Penrith and he told me he was moving back up here, so I thought why not go too?“NRL is the goal. At the moment, I’m just trying to save money and get my life in order, but if an opportunity with the Broncos comes up, I’ll grasp it with two hands.”Cherrington appreciates second chances more than most. One of six siblings, he has a brother in jail and Cherrington almost joined him when NSW chief magistrate Graeme Henson warned he was a “cat’s whisker” from incarceration.

Instead, Cherrington completed 150 hours community service. He is not proud of his past, but seeks solace in the future.“I’ve learned about good karma,” he said.“I got labelled pretty badly over my ex. I had a scuffle with her and that is the most hurtful thing that happened to me. If you Google my name, that’s the first thing that comes up.“It’s a bit embarrassing but I’m taking the good with the bad. I have two beautiful kids with that same woman, that shows you what sort of situation we were in, it was a love-hate relationship.“That was rock bottom for me, but now I just want to be good to people and hopefully good things happen to me.“I have two kids to provide for and I have to be positive for them. What’s happened is in the past, I’m up here now so I just want to play good football and enjoy life.”

We have heaps of competition for the prop spots that aren't taken by McGuire. It's exciting to wonder which of these nobodies will be in our team come round 1.

The "worst signing in NRL history" vs the 26 year old who's managed to crack first grade 9 times vs the "alcoholic" who got dropped from a tigers team that had zero motor vs the "woman basher" who hasnt played first grade in 5 years.

Lucky I like an under dog.

Just want to point out that Gavet wasn't dropped, he got injured and thats when the Tigers started to decline.

Most of your comments are quite harsh, unfair and unnecessary...

What's the point of all this rubbish?

I've got one response to all of those descriptions: Redemption story

I actually like that we are starting to become one of the more intimidating sides, Gavet,McGuire and Blair provide some aggression and now this guy. Size and aggression in the forwards, something we desperately need

Didn't take Wayne long to realise where we were lacking did it ?

Which of these are harsh or unfair? They are all facts, media quotes, or in the players own words. The only person I was harsh on is Gavet because I accidentally said "dropped" instead of "let go".

I'm actually excited to see how Blair and Gavet go but on paper we must have he worst prop rotation in the NRL at this point.

Yeah I'm gonna miss choir practice but it's nice to be like every other team finally

Second row power rankings

1. Broncos (Corey Parker, Matt Gillett)
No matter which way you slice it, Brisbane’s second row is going to be a handful to contend with in 2015. Assuming Sam Thaiday wears 13 (it’s just as likely to be Parker at lock) Gillett is favoured to team with Parker in the second row, with another high class candidate, Alex Glenn, to start on the bench. Parker will enjoy the freedom of his preferred backrow role after pinch hitting at prop this season, while Gillett is set to take his powerful wide-running game to the next level under Wayne Bennett.

I don't think the CM guys even watch rugby league, when was the last time CP13 actually played in the second row.

They ranked Sutton & McQueen 4th. That's the stupidest thing I've ever seen.
