Broncos Announce Hodges & Parker as Co-Captains

If those 3 were out it would go back to Thaiday, but if you meant he was out too..I think it'd go to Macca.

I don't think Glenn has the pace to be centre personally. Also in regards to Glenn eventually taking over the reigns as captain, from what i have seen in post match interviews he will need a lot of work, he doesn't conduct himself like a NRL captain imo.
Disagree
He was a standout for speaking as U20s captain. While did not do too many post matches last year, he did do most of the pre match interviews with the media. He was put up by the Broncos so they think he goes okay as well. He has a strong kiwi accent but that will never change

Never saw him speak in the 20's but what i saw of him in the NRL post matches he was average at best, some what cringe worthy tbh.

Good enough reason right there not to have Glenn speak more than he absolutely has to.

Wally Lewis commented on how Thiaday was made a scapegoat by Hook's poor choices.

How seriously should we take Wally's comments regarding the Broncos? He still seems to hold a grudge against us on how he was shuffled out of the club in 1990.

Wally shouldn't be taken seriously about anything re Broncos really... He never quite manages to hide his grudge, whether or not we're dictating terms.

That's not true, Wally is at training all the time, functions for the club and events old boy days. He has more issues with Wynnum then he'll ever have with Broncos.

Yeah Wallys a club man. just doesnt kiss there arses and if somethings wrong or shit, like Tallis he will say something.

I think Wally is one of the most knowledgeable commentators in the game, even if he is terrible at the commentating part.
I disagree with him here though.

Wally seems like he is a Melbourne Storm fan nowadays.

I think Wally is fine with the Broncos but maybe this topic is a little personal for him.

Well I was dead set chuffed to see Thaiday stripped of the captaincy. I said ,at the time he was chosen for the role that he was a very poor choice. I believed then as I do now that he was picked more for the pr side of things. I thought it was to demonstrate the inclusiveness of the club, its contemporaneity. I thought it was very similar to how most organisations these day when selecting staff will pick a less qualified female over better qualified males simply to boost numbers of women in the workforce.

That is not a slight on women rather an indictment of policy. Thaiday offered nothing as captain as he hadn't earned the right and was a good but infrequent contributor. No doubt his skill but major doubt about the other important aspects of captaincy. His game last year against Newcastle at Suncorp was absolutely abysmal and I'm certain it sealed his fate. Not only was he ineffective but his discipline was atrocious conceding penalty after penalty until sent off.

I have always maintained Parker offered much more but dare I say it, he is Caucasian ( in a long line of them for the Broncos ) and he is hardly a media darling. I don't give a shit about race or gender, I simply hate jobs being awarded on any other basis than ' the best person for the job '.

Him being at training all the time doesn't mean he doesn't have an axe to grind. He does, and doesn't do a great job of hiding it.
It's just not as big as the one with Wynnum...

Of course in this particular case, it hits a closer to home, but Wally's fame and the fact that he's considered the best player to ever have laced a boot in Rugby League make him forget that people don't have to defer to him, and he has a hard time accepting that.

To be honest, if we were ever going to have co captains, Parker and Hodges are the perfect combination.

You've got Parker whose the more level headed and respected commander who will lead the troops around the park, then you have Hodges who has that respected attitude and mongrel that can fire the players up when the points are available.

Despite my disappointment with the way Thaiday has been made the scapegoat that Hook should have been i have to agree with the above. I thought Parker was ripped off in the initial appointment of Sam and Hodges has an aura about him that seems to lift everyone around him. I can't express enough my man love (non-homo) for Hodges.

I'm sorry for not reading back through this whole thread, but did i hear right when i heard this appointment was only for 1 year ?
