Broncos Announce Hodges & Parker as Co-Captains

Thaiday is entitled to be disappointed by the decision but surely he is not surprised. Been overdue. Although I pretty much agree with all the changes that have occured over the last couple of months, it just highlights how wrong the club has got it over the last few years with the amount of changes that have been made.

Reading between the lines in Lockyers column Hodges is the true leader of the team but they need Parker to look serious away from football with the corporates and media who will scrutinize them for the leader they choose.
Hodges will galvanize the team but isolate corporates and media.
Thaiday could do both both but it was a burden that affected his form

I don't believe they got this one wrong. In hindsight it looks the right decision if Sam could have held his form with the captaincy.

Interesting to note Parker's fight with Yow Yeh could have helped cost him the captaincy in the past

He has failed to inspire and his form has taken a nose dive (with the team), so I think it was the wrong decision (after the fact) to appoint him as captain. But as you said, how would they know this unless giving him a go.

I was/am never really confident in Thaiday becoming a top line captain. Not sure what it is with him, but to me there were better candidates that missed out.

I differ as I don't believe there was one candidate that was right to lead this team at the time and that may be an indictment of the management of the team
Perhaps Hodges was the man but declined the captaincy in his contract negotiations

Alex Glenn is the natural leader in this team but until he can command a spot in the starting 13 he cannot be captain

I'm a bit late to this party, but this is the best news I've heard all year. Now can we have Thaiday removed from the banner image, pretty please?

So u don't give a shit about what he says yet u read the article and share it with all of us. How do u react when u do give a shit?

I can post however I like. If you don't like it then put me on ignore. Back on topic

If anyone gives a shit about what Chris johns thinks (I know I certainly don't... And the title of 'club legend' is a bit of a stretch) but according to him we should have kept a failing captain or installed someone that isn't ready and just throw away the next few years. Thanks Chris!

Johns is entitled to be called a club legend, he was a big part of the broncos being a premier club from day dot and was instrumental in winning the first 2 premierships for the club.

His comments were more about the change being a short term fix which I happen to agree with.

I am in agreement of the changes that were made regarding captaincy but my first thoughts were what happens in 2-3 seasons when Parker and Hodges retire. Not saying there won't be an answer but be interesting to see if Glenn or McCullough are the right man/men for the job at that time.

He doesn't say anything close to what you've claimed.

Did you even read it?

Johns says the shock change shines a light on the club's lack of long-term planning.

"It's not an ideal preparation to be replacing your captain in January," he said.

"It has to be an interim thing. 'Hodgo' and Corey are great players, but they're in their 30s.

"To me it says that they're lacking leaders at the club in that next generation.

"Whether they get Cameron Smith at the club next year or not, that will only be a short-term option as well. He will only give them a couple of years too.

"They need a succession plan to bring some of these young kids through."

So I exaggerated a bit, doesn't mean it's not 'anywhere close'.

He says it's not ideal preparation to sack him in January, which means he's basically saying that he doesn't agree with it.

Or he could agree with the decision but think it should of been done earlier than January.

I understand John's point that the our captains are likely to be short term captains but they are extremely experienced, respected by their teammates and are extremely passionate about our club which ticks the boxes to become captain. We also have Alex Glenn waiting in the wings who fills the role as a fill in captain who can lead the team in the future but he needs to lift his game if that's going to happen.

Alex Glenn needs to be a standout before he can even be considered a full time captain. In all honesty, I'd struggle to fit him in our starting team for next year.

He does not need to be a standout but he does need to be a certainty for the run on team. I would also struggle to start with him this year

Glenn could get a start as a centre at the start of the season if Hodges is out. I do agree that when the team is at full-strength Glenn would be lucky to get a start.

If Hodges, Parker and Glenn were out who would be the captain? I would pick Hannant, although he has played for 3 clubs I think he is a proud Bronco and his status as a Origin and Test player holds him in high regard and I would imagine the younger players in the team would look up to him.

I don't think Glenn has the pace to be centre personally. Also in regards to Glenn eventually taking over the reigns as captain, from what i have seen in post match interviews he will need a lot of work, he doesn't conduct himself like a NRL captain imo.
