Broncos Announce Hodges & Parker as Co-Captains

Tbh Sam is the scapegoat when it really should have been Hook. Although i'm a fan of him not being captain, i think it's an absolute disgrace that he is the one who is taking the fall instead of Hook that bag of ****.

This spells it out exactly.

Sam look very forlorn and disappointed in front of the camera today and he has every right to be. I felt for the poor bugger. The wrong person has been fucked over for last year's shemozzle.

I was very disappointed when Parker didn't get the captaincy after Locky left but for Sam to be made the scapegoat now for the 2013 admin and coaching clusterfuckups is bullshit and shameful.

Personally, i'm not in favour of co-captains, i think there should be one captain...

Even though it is yet another positive move from Hook and the Broncos after the 2013 season ... it seems that Hook haters are just going to use this decision to bash (and bitch) about him

You have to allow for the face that when Parker is captain, more often then not our best 5-7 players are also out.

Was more just a curious question i didn't really look into it although i should have prob realised

Who knows, maybe it was the last straw - he came back overweight and the club said that it's not good enough. The official stance is that he has a big motor so can carry the extra weight. But I've always wondered that if the weight is purely there for impact & momentum, surely it would be better to have that weight in muscle, where it increases strength as well, not just useless blubber. The only negatives of increased muscle is that it'd need a higher level of weights training to maintain it, and possibly a higher chance of straining a muscle or damaging a tendon or ligament. But still, 5kg of muscle over 5kg of excess fat would have to be better IMO.

Rep players aren't back till Monday.

Thaiday isn't really a scapegoat. He has been terrible for 2 years now, and even bashed his teammates in interviews. He shouldn't be captain and it's got nothing to do with Hook staying. And I have no faith in Hook myself.

The agendas in here are amazing.

Thaidays dumping as captain is not to 'scapegoat' griffin or any rubbish like that.

Thaiday did a terrible job as captain (outside of the media stuff which he is very good at) and his own game suffered immensely from the added responsibility. Fact. This has nothing to do with griffin.

I also believe we need a new coach but this agenda against him is ridiculous.

I swear the bloke could cure cancer and people would be like "oh well he cured cancer but what about all those poor bastards with AIDS, the lazy shit has done nothing for them"

Thaiday & Hook have both been poor. But what we're saying I'd that we should blame the bloke who's been in charge of everything for the last 3 years before you blame the guy who's been here for a lot longer, including the successful times. Whose job is largely promotional.

Enough squabbling!

This thread is about the Broncos captaincy. Keep your Hook agendas in the thread where they belong.

I'd like Hodges to retire from rep footy so he can captain during origin. Won't happen though

I think the best part about this is that we can bench Thaiday without having to worry about the captaincy.. If he starts off this season overweight and under-performing I'd say it won't take too long for him to become a bench player.

Will also depend on if Gillett and Glenn are fully fit and playing well.

I do believe the change is fairly cosmetic and really wouldn't have made a difference to how we went in the past couple of seasons, but it was an easy decision to make and it was at the right time of the season, not Round 24 where you're not doing anybody any favours.

Really unsure what to make of the co-captain situation. To me, it's a vote of no-confidence towards Parker and they've just thrown Hodgo in there, who has genuine leadership qualities but has little interest in being a captain. I suppose it's an each way bet, or just a stop-gap before Smith may arrive which would be incredible.

Between losing this pressure and the chance to transfer back into his favoured position, I really hope Sam starts dishing out (rather than eating) some humble pie.

How many years have you and I had our fingers crossed over this Beads?

With Hodgo set to miss the opening two months, hopefully Gagai, Tate, Chambers etc. step up so Justin isn't rushed straight into the Maroons side and we can benefit during the rep season. A fit Hodges would be a god send around that time picking apart all the junior backs.

One is fine when you have a genuine leader and club legend like Lockyer, however co-captains sharing the load is better when there's no obvious stand out or you're worried about someone losing form struggling with the demands of captaincy.

I understand that mate but what I'm trying to say is that the fact that griffin is a shit coach has nothing to do with this thread

I am not huge on the co-captains but I do think Parker and Hodges compliment each other well. Both have leadership capabilities but are very different in style.
