They are said to be shopping for a full back. I know of a few wingers who are looking to make the move to fb and arent getting opportunity too at their clubs.

Holmes to Souths confirmed

Thought Johnson would be the perfect replacement?

I heard we're trading Boyd, McCullough and Reed for Inglis, McInnes and Goodwin because trades happen all the time.

I heard there was a 2018 cap raise and 1910 didnt lol. And of top of that raise, a trade like you mentioned is not necessary

and that cap raise is still only speculated ... it has not been confirmed at this stage by the NRL

besides ... say the cap did raise by 5 million ... it doesn't mean we will be able to go out on a $5 million shopping spree.

apart from competing against every other club with the same spare space in the cap ... every one of our players will want more money

And there was talk of the lowest contracts to raise by a considerable amount. I remember seeing Thurston and Cam Smith mentioning that's what they wanted to happen first and foremost!

NRL broadcast rights deal announced - NRL.com

How Rupert Murdoch helped NRL hit $2 billion TV rights jackpot
I sat and watched this. The announcing of AFL, A LEAGUE and NRL massive TV Rights deals.
The NRL has made 2 billion in this deal which puts it on par with Australia's biggest code AFL.

This was just prior to the deal being done. They used the figures of 1.7 billion and figured that into the cap raises taking it to 11 million. With the deal being 2 billion the cap went up from 11 to 12 million.

NRL set for massive windfall in new TV deal | The Roar

"The $1.7-billion broadcast windfall will be a 70 per cent increase on their current $1-billion deal, which would help the NRL to lift the salary cap from $7.5 million to $11 million.Grants to clubs would also rise from $7.8 million to $12 million, helping them retain the game’s elite players."

I think its more than speculation. Only people born in cabbage patches can now say that.

FROM 3 DAYS AGO SO THIS WOULD NOW AGAIN INCREASE THE RAISE IN 2018. ITS GOOD TO SEE THE NRL ARE HAVING WINS. THIS IS A DEAL THE AFL PROBABLY WOULDNT GET.

Sky Sport coup

While its focus may have been on the dramas at Parramatta this week, the NRL quietly secured another financial windfall. As Greenberg was taking on the Parramatta five, NRL head of strategy Andrew Fraser was in New Zealand negotiating a new television deal. Fraser was the key negotiator in securing the $1.8 billion Australian television rights deal with the Nine network and Fox Sports last year. He returned to Australia late last week with another fat contract, awarding Sky Sport in New Zealand the rights to cover NRL matches, Tests, Origin and domestic matches for an additional five years. All women's Tests featuring the Kiwi Ferns will also be shown live. The clincher for the NRL is that Sky Sports has agreed to a replay of all Warriors games each Sunday night on a free-to-air channel and one other NRL game each Sunday during the day, giving the NRL a chance to move into prime time in the union-mad country. It means the NRL has now raised $1.9 billion from its broadcasting deals — and it still has international and radio rights to sell.

nowhere in any of that is there a confirmation from the NRL of what the salary cap will be in 2018 and beyond ...

and IMO, "The Roar" is hardly a reputable source

FROM 3 DAYS AGO LOL. IS IT JUST SPECULATION NOW???? COS YOU GOTTA KNOW WHEN HOLD EM AND KNOW WHEN TO FOLD EM, KNOW WHEN TO WALK AWAY AND KNOW WHEN TO RUN.......

SOUTH Sydney fans sweating on Greg Inglis finishing his career at Redfern will be hoping the NRL finalise the salary cap increases for 2018 as soon as possible.
Inglis’ manager Allan Gainey revealed to The Daily Telegraph he would not start negotiations to extend the champion fullback’s contract at the Rabbitohs until full details of the proposed salary cap increase for 2018 are revealed.
The salary cap will rise from $6.8 million to $7 million next season — the final year of the current Collective Bargaining Agreement — but the NRL is yet to discuss the figure for 2018 and beyond.
This has left a number of the NRL’s biggest names, including Inglis, Penrith skipper Matt Moylan and Melbourne star Cooper Cronk in the dark over their earning capacity when negotiating new deals.
“It doesn’t give you much to work with when you don’t know what the cap is and you need to know if you are going to do anything beyond 2017.” Gainer said.
“They (the NRL) have got the money from the TV deal four months ago, so it would be good to know how much the cap will be.”
Gainey revealed he would have pushed for talks on a new Inglis deal at Redfern as soon as July if the financial future was clearer.
“It has certainly put things on a bit of a holding pattern,” Gainey said.
“I’m keen to have a chat with Souths, but both parties agree it’s not the most appropriate time. That might change if we know what the cap is and then we can know what we are working with.”

Gainey said he has spoken to South Sydney general manager of football Shane Richardson about Inglis’ extension beyond 2017. Richardson confirmed he too wanted to wait until the club had a reasonable idea of the salary cap increase before entering into talks about the star fullback.
But when contacted by The Daily Telegraph, Richardson responded via text saying: “Sorry, I don’t discuss player negotiations.”
Canterbury’s star halfback Moses Mbye has delayed signing a four-year contract extension until he adds in clauses around the new salary cap increase.
The Daily Telegraph can reveal the Bulldogs have agreed to the clauses and Mbye will officially submit his signed contract next week.
However, not every player has the pulling power of the Bulldogs playmaker.
It’s understood a number of off-contract lower-tier players in the NRL haven’t been able to get cap increase clauses written into their contracts.
This also applies to clauses around increases with the minimum wage.
A number of player managers and players are upset with the lack of support from the governing body, which has forced them to insert their own protection clauses that require club approval.
It’s understood the RLPA is aware of the current struggle for players trying to negotiate new deals without knowledge of salary cap increases and will address how players, particularly those with less leverage, can be greater protected.
Until then, players are being forced to negotiate their own cap increase clauses in the hope they are agreed upon by their clubs.
If not, they have to roll the dice and do so without the full knowledge of their earning capacity.

Did you not read the article you posted? You know, the bit where it says the cap for 2018 and beyond is yet to be finalised?

Sure did. Did you not pick up the part where its plain and simply obvious that the raise is going to be "SIGNIFICANT" as players are waiting on it. Do you think if it was a typical 200k raise they would of written this? Were you born in a Cabbage Patch?

Thats the bit you need to be focusing on ... Given the TV rights deal a significant raise to the cap is certainly on the cards, the fact that the NRL haven't even discussed it yet means that a cap raise is still just speculation, in fact this is the definition of speculation.

If a cap rise is so certain, why are player-managers holding off, they may as well just start negotiating deals with clubs based on an 11 million. the reason the players are holding off on negotiating deals is that their not sure what the cap will rise too (or even if it will be a significant rise)

take a player like Inglis for example ... if a cap rise occurs, then instead of asking for $700k- $1million a season he will want 1.2 million a season.

A player like Milford will be worth $1.5 million +

plus the minimum wage will rise to somewhere between 80k - 100k a season.

But then the part you forget is he turns 30 next yr.

And The NRL are still making deals ie like they just announced with sky sports.
They still have radio etc. The cap will be higher again. It will be 12 plus million with allowances they talk about for keeping top players.
