I'm not sure that cap rise has even been confirmed just speculated ...
besides even with the cap rise, i think 700k is too much to pay Inglis. especially if he keeps playing on one leg
As far as I know nothing cap related has been confirmed, although it's not too much of a stretch to imagine we are going to see a pretty significant jump. TBH 700kish range could be pretty reasonable $$$ for him if the cap goes up enough.
Especially since we don't have anyone really coming through in the outside backs that's ready just yet. Next cab off the rank can take Oates spot anyway (Oatesy into the pack). Plus, I really don't think it'd be the young blokes we really want to keep that'd be pushed out by Inglis, as some people are saying. As such, widening our premiership window now, by strengthening the position most of us agree is the weakest, seems like a no brainer since I don't see us paying for it majorly down the track.
On subject of Holmes, it is all wishful thinking, but I can't think of a player in the competition I would sign ahead of him at the moment. Young, QLDer, wing, kicks goals, plenty of toe...
But I can't see him signing his next contract on anything apart from fullback $$$. On one hand his confidence, thirst for the pressure situations (those couple of FG's where he came in off his wing looking for the ball I thought where outstanding) and the way he backs himself are amongst his best attributes. But this year there have been a couple of times I've watched/read interviews with him where I am starting to detect a little over-confidence, arrogance maybe. There was an article about him missing out origin selection and wanting to playing alongside Thurston where he seemed to intimate he was a shoe-in this year that spring to mind. On the other hand many great sportmen have equally great ego's so perhaps I am reading into it too much?
Anyway, long story short I get the impression he would think he is a starting FB and worth those kind of $$$ so I can't see him coming to play for us on the wing for the money we could pay him.
On another note, recently I've been thinking I wouldn't be surprised to see JT's next extension with the cowboys being team orientated on lower $$$, so they can keep their roster together and chase at least one more ring before he hangs up the boots. It got me thinking, can anyone see Parker doing the same thing? Bloody Sam's three year deal has really thrown a spanner in the works, for team balance I really feel like we need to lose a back rower, and it won't be him now. If Parker stays we either won't be able to pay him the $$$ he's worth, or miss out on retention/recruitment in a more urgent position.
