Play for one more year Smith, the NRL needs you.

Pray the storm don’t win the premiership. If they are bundled out via a flogging, smith won’t want to exit like that.

Grant wont be at the tigers next year regardless of the smith decision

You're playing a dangerous game here. If you're wrong then you'll be almost as unpopular around here as Darius.

BHQ KILL LIST:

1. Darius
2. mitch222
3. Seibs
4. Oates

Milford isn't and won't ever be good enough for the Qld spine unless there are a bucketload of injuries, pathetic for a million dollar player. I see him as a serviceable stop gap until someone better comes along. Happy to keep him at 400k from next year, no more.

Can't agree. This is my defence of Milf. Based purely on skill set, for mine Milford is one of the very best 5/8's in the NRL: kicking game is right up there - he can control a game with it, his instincts and passing game to set up plays outside, inside and up the middle, and the footwork to bend or fracture a defensive line - second to none for mine. His defence is good - some of his hits over the years have been bell ringers, unlike the majority of halves. He isn't crap, he is all class.

The problem as we have all seen is his form. With some exceptions this year, it was rubbish. So what's gone wrong. For mine, he was perhaps the greatest casualty under, and because of Seibold, as well as the fall out from the way Seibold was recruited at Bennett's expense. In other words, I explain Milf's fall from grace as mental - attitude and motivation just went, and his fitness followed suit, and that was that.

I expect Walters will bring out the very best in Milford, and as we have seen, Milford combines well with Dearden, and I expect, under Walters, to see that combination flourish to become among the very best halves combination next year. And that point - a combination with his half underlines for me what the central issue is: a halves combination rather than just the quality of this 5/8 or that half. If you look at the best, say Reynolds and Walker, it's the way they play together, unleashing the individual skills of each in the opportunities they create (along with the role of the hooker and FB - again, a combination, the spine as an organic unit). Conversely, look at the decline of poster child Moses without Brown - he's bog average. Again, look at the damage Milford and Hunt achieved - together, and to a lesser extent, Milf and KNik, under Bennett.

Anyway, the bottom line here for me is that either Milford regains his potentially stellar form (with Dearden) under Walters, or well, not, in which case his mental state is permanently shot and he goes, to another club, or retires. I think it is that simple.

Having said all that, for mine our most critical issues are FB and hooker. Whoever they are, Walters needs to get the spine combining, individually and more importantly as a unit, or next year is doomed to be average or worse. The spine is everything. Without it, we are spaghetti.

i think both White and Morris are ahead of Oates on that list

White wasn't included because he's about to fade off into obscurity / rugby union (same thing) soon anyway.

And Karl Morris wasn't included because judging by his complete and utter lack of brain activity, it is clear that he's been legally dead for several years already.

OK I need to be clear here
Grant wont be at the Tigers next year. If Smith plays on, he is going to the highest bidder which wont be the Tigers regardless of what they are saying with their cap.
Smith retires, he is going back the Storm as per his contract.

You raise a lot of good points here and I absolutely hope you are right. The problem is that Milf has always had some reason or someone else's fault for his failings. He doesn't seem to have ever taken responsibility for his own mistakes, such as not turning up fit for pre-season, not being able to cope under pressure and declining coaching that he needs. He is 26 now, he is set in his ways, so I just hope he can turn against the writing on the wall and I hope he can but he has never been and never will be worth one million dollars a year.

Throw whatever he wants at him, it'll be worth it.

you know Oates is only 26 years old..hardly ready for the scrapheap...at least give the new coaching staff 12 months to see if they can help him turn it around..?

I reckon Cams done, and the Storm have the absolute right replacement for him there so power to them i guess...

Brandon Smith is the odd one out given everything ive read him say...and i can see the Bulldogs making him a $1 million a season hooker because.....they are the Bulldogs...

I never want to see Oates in a Broncos jersey again. He didn’t put in all season and spent most of the time tripping over his bottom lip, he can **** off.

Agree 100%. I would add that Milf here is not alone. Your key point about accepting and dealing with responsibility for mistakes and personal form applied to virtually everyone in the squad, a function of a number of things Walters has to address ASAP: the Seibold Effect, unjustified and toxic senses of entitlement and a simple **** you, fans. That for mine is perhaps Walters's biggest task to address even before pre-season. As the media correctly for once reports, a number of players ought to go, ASAP or we are again doomed to suffer the consequences of their choice to be mediocre. Yes, it's just a game. Well, no it isn't. Thank god that **** Boyd has gone, to the greener pastures of his own making at the club's, the team's and fans expense, and others, like Oates and Offa need to wake the **** up, put in, or piss off.

Those toxic pricks have so much blood on their hands. The sooner they fade away the better.

I would gladly pay half of bird, lodge, ofa and milfs contracts to get them out

Bird - 950k
Lodge - 700k
Milford - 950k
Ofahengaue - 600k
= 3.2 mil
/2 = 1.6 mil

I’d take 1.6 mil

Replace them with players like these (doesn't have to be these guys)

Opacic - 150k
Tolman - 300k
Marshall - 300k
Pene - 300k
= 1.05 mil

Got a spare 550k after that

you're a fool wanting Bird and Lodge to move one (thankfully Kevvie doesn't think that way)

even moving Milford on for Marshall isn't a great move as Marshall MAY have 1 year left in him

Each to their own. Marshall would only be a short term signing anyway. As I said, it could be any player.

I'm not a fool for wanting Bird and Lodge to move on.. And I wasn't a fool either for being disappointed in the signings when they first happened. Oh that reminds me, we should release Croft too. A very disappointing moment for me when he was signed.

Smith will retire and take some very cushy job at Fox or the NRL and gets the added bonus of fucking us over re: Grant.

you see, i'd prefer we not weaken our roster ... but you're right, each to their own
