Broncos Player Movement and Rumours 2020

Even if he gets off, which he won't, I don't want him wearing our colours again. Once a troublemaker, always a troublemaker clearly.

Each to their own. Marshall would only be a short term signing anyway. As I said, it could be any player.

I'm not a fool for wanting Bird and Lodge to move on.. And I wasn't a fool either for being disappointed in the signings when they first happened. Oh that reminds me, we should release Croft too. A very disappointing moment for me when he was signed.

Why Marshall when we have Milford, Gamble and Paix. Assuming Milford comes into his own under Walters, he's twice the player Marshall is, and whose defence is suspect at the best of times. And I repeat, for those with an agenda against Milf based on his 2019 - 2020 defence which was poor - Milford coming good under Walters. If not then yes, move him on.

Lodge? WTF? He's a top class prop - when fully fit and under a good coach. Bird? Well, again, why throw away money. Wait to see if he delivers, fit. healthy and again, under a decent coach.

What we need is a FB, hooker and ball playing lock. That for mine is Walters's first and foremost challenge for next year as far as our roster goes. We either buy a FB or my preference, see if what we have - Niu, Farnworth or Bird can cut it. Hooker - I hope Walters can get Turps to develop a running game, taking on the line and selecting his passes like the best hookers do, and lock - we need a ball playing lock with some footwork, maybe TPJ but not Patty, who for mine is an out and out prop, and a bloody good one at that.

After next year, we can assess and resolve, especially when the player market offers decent options unlike now, which is full of average (Tolman, Marshall, Opacic), and average is not what we need if we are rebuilding the carnage left by the club, and Seibold.

Haha your solution is to not change anything.

I don't think people here want to understand that what is wrong at the Broncos is a cultural thing.

We don't just need a different coach and CEO.. We need different players within the squad.

Different mentalities/personalities.

Does anyone want to acknowledge this?

On the contrary, my solution entails a host of key changes, one of the biggest - Walters, has already happened, and with it, what we have will largely IMO suffice, under Walters, to make the 8 next year. Walters's job is to change the mentality and encourage and bring out the vast talent we have. That is changing an awful lot.

As for the roster, my stated views remain: to go deep into the comp, we need a quality FB, hooker and lock, and we need first to see if our talent delivers under Walters or we risk throwing babies out with bathwater.

everyone acknowledges that there is a cultural issues ... but that means getting rid of the right players. not our best players.

and if you've listened to Walters over the last 24 hours ... he says the Broncos culture is a winning culture. so getting rid of our best players, won't help get this back.

Bird won a GF at centre in a great Sharks side. He had a good year.

But other than that what players mentioned have won anything in NRL?

I don't remember Milford winning a GF or Origin?

Lodge? Ofa?

They aren't our best players. They are our most overrated and over paid.

If we want a winning culture we will have to buy some winners and we'll need the cap space available for when they are available

I agree that we need some spine players. Jake Friend is someone that would be quite attainable in comparison to other options. I would like to buy Tristan Sailor as competition for Niu in the FB spot next year. Maybe throw in Staggs as a smokey option there too.

you post didn't mention winners.

it mentioned has-beens (and hasn't been a winner for a decade), reserve grade players or solid (at best NRL players)

The guys I mentioned are just good wholesome blokes that try hard for the clubs they play for. They're not the ones that I would pin my hopes on in terms of winning a comp.. But they are good depth and would do a lot in our pursuit of trying to reinvigorate the club culture. AND they would take very low paying contracts. Mix them in with some of our current squad and it looks good in my opinion

What premiership has Sailor won?

I would gladly pay half of bird, lodge, ofa and milfs contracts to get them out

Bird - 950k
Lodge - 700k
Milford - 950k
Ofahengaue - 600k
= 3.2 mil
/2 = 1.6 mil

I’d take 1.6 mil

Replace them with players like these (doesn't have to be these guys)

Opacic - 150k
Tolman - 300k
Marshall - 300k
Pene - 300k
= 1.05 mil

Got a spare 550k after that
Yeah have 550k and a worse team, sounds great 👍

you see, i'd prefer we not weaken our roster ... but you're right, each to their own

Remember, this bloke was one of the leading posters who wanted us to play all the kids. That worked out brilliantly.
