what do people think about George Williams from Wigan ... there is an article on NRL.com saying he wants to test himself in the NRL next year.

although it is funny, they talk about all of the clubs that need a quality half and don't mention us. clubs they talk about are: Newcastle, Melbourne, Parramatta, Canterbury, North Queensland and Canberra

we have plenty of back rowers ... every one of them better there than Macca
Griffin tried Macca in the backrow against the Warriors. I think they put 50 on us. Mostly through him. He just got run over by their forwards.

Macca - good defender. shit in attack. given a hooker touches the ball almost every tackle, which trait do you reckon might be more important?

We've probably always kept Macca because he is one of those value players who doesn't cost us that much and will give decent steady performances week in week out.

[sarcasm] Gives us more money to waste on centres we don't need, stockpiling every second rower we can find and paying overs for under-performing fullbacks/halves. [/sarcasm]

Let's run through those 'contenders':

Newcastle: Have Pearce, Watson, and Ponga, why do they need a half? Also, how can they keep buying players on extreme overs?
Melbourne: Already have a stockpile of good halves, including Croft who would be playing for a club like us every week.
Parra: Fucked financially, and have spent big in the off season. Also have decent halves (for now), and Salmon, who you think will be playing for them next year in the halves.
Dogs: Cap.
NQ: Have halves, and have blown their load cap wise on a select few players.
Canberra: Possible.

The media is a joke.

agree with all that ...

I don't know much about him, but could be worth a look for us

No, not Nikorima at fullback. Height makes me nervous these days due to any weaknesses being exposed in the NRL. They'd target him like crazy.

Short term he's a bench utility. Long term he could be a hooker. As he matures he will be able to handle the middle more.

I'd be happy for him to gradually take more minutes from McCullough.

Our long term fullback is a tricky one.

I'm just going to come out and say when you look at our squad, Milford would have to be the best long term option.

Assuming we want to keep Corey Paix and Tanah Boyd.. Would it not make sense to consider the shift?

Potentially

1. Anthony Milford
6. Tanah Boyd
7. Corey Paix
9. Kodi Nikorima

With a bit more maturity that'd be a competitive spine.

Obviously we'd need to sign an experienced half for a few years in order to get the spine to this point or Kodi could play 6 until McCullough has retired.

Not that I think Niko is a good long term fullback but you say height is the main reason then go on to suggest a bloke who is only 2cm taller than him.

In the past Maccas value to the team was greater than it is now. Then we had mediocre and Maccas defence was an asset. Now our forwards are quality so Macca can come out of his shell and be a bit more adventurous in attack but fails to do so. Knik could easily fill the hooker position as did Ben Hunt.

Given that 80 minute hookers almost always top the most tackles stat each game, id say that question is splitting hairs.

Wayne rates him and is the English coach, so surely we're a front runner if he wants to come here seeing as we don't have a half back. His kicking game is really good. From what I've seen of him he looks to be the player people think Taylor is, albeit in an average comp.

I remember a particular Melbourne Storm game where he was targetted ruthlessly in defence. After 4 tries conceded even Wayne had to hook him...

That would be every single game for us with him at fullback...

He got destroyed because he was on the bloody wing trying to jump against vunivalu. Absolutely no chance. Not many bombs get contested at fullback these days

O'Sullivan seems better than Dargan at least. I'd definitely like a more experienced half though.

Tom Flegler how old is he and is he any chance of hitting first grade ?

+ Is Andre Savelio playing for us next year or not?

With Cleary coming out this morning announcing he "intends" to honor his current contract with the Tigers, seems like Bennett is a genuine chance to land at Penrith.
Wayne leaving doesn't bother me, but the fact that TPJ hasn't put pen to paper on a new contract with Brisbane due to his management dramas does worry me.
We all know TPJ and Wayne are pretty close, and I am fairly confident Penrith would love to take TPJ if they do land Wayne..
Hopefully Wayne takes Darius and leaves behind TPJ..
Makes me a little worried.

Even though TPJ has said that he wanted to be coached by Bennett, i believe he also said he wanted to play for the Broncos....that he loved the club.

Hopefully he loves the club more than Wayne.

Wayne sounds like he's going to try and coach from the grave through some futuristic AI assistant, so if TPJ feels that way about playing under Wayne maybe there's nothing we can do about him leaving. Not as long as the club is deadset on getting rid of Wayne.
