I would take Cam Smith as coach in 2019 or 2020.

He could coach us for a decade and have no issues..

And yeah, I'm serious
Not a bad shout. I reckon he would be an excellent coach. Transition period under WB for 19 and take over in 20 with WB moving upstairs.
Interesting comment from CS that he may retire if Storm win GF

Players should take some time off I reckon after they retire from playing and at least be an assistant first

Yeah, I know. I think the real advantage of going straight into coaching is the fact that the players already respect him and know what he's done and why they should listen.

Would never happen though.

Used to be an unwritten rule that you never coach the players you played with.

Yeah, I don't think it's ever worked has it? You need to have been out of the system for a while IMO. A couple of old heads that you played with is one thing, but 90% of the team?

Mal Meninga tried at Canberra when he finished playing without success if IRC.

Smith isn’t a Broncos club legend or anything though. I think it would be different.

I'm keen for Sean O'Sullivan to replace Cronk for the grandfinal. Hopefully Roosters win and we have a premiership winning halfback next year haha

Yeah, it would be good to see how he goes, though in the past they seemed to just chuck Matterson there (and he was hopeless).

It'd be much safer to put Matterson or Radley in the halves. Tell them not to over play their hand and basically just run and make their tackles.

They're fortunate that Keary only gets better when he's pressured to be the main half.

I assume Jake Friend is out too?

1. Tedesco
6. Matterson
7. Keary
9. Radley

14. O'Sullivan

?

I disagree because I've seen this happen many times before - putting a back rower into the halves in the finals almost never works out. The Broncos have tried it with guys like Gillett, Glenn and Tunza too. I haven't seen too many teams gamble on an inexperienced half, but why not give it a go?

Gus finished at Dogs in 85 and coached them to a premiership in 88.

Sheens finished at Panthers 1982 coached them to first finals in 84.

Bennett captain/coach Souths in 77. Quit and just coached after a while. 79 GF- got pumped but still great achievement.

Agreed. If they put matterson in the halves they are trying not to lose, they are not playing to win (contradiction I know). Its a white flag in a way. Take a gamble, put a halfback in the halfback spot and make his main job to get the team to positions on the field. Keary can stress about the set plays and attack. Osullivan can support keary by taking the odd kick or at least providing a 2nd option on play 5.

Cornish is the answer. He was great for the Roos in the finals, played better than O’Sullivan. He got Roos around the field. I was a massive fan at the Raiders and thought he would have cracked it by now. I’d pick him Sunday.
