Only way Pearson is let go is if Oates is staying. That's Opacic and now Pearson making way for Oates to get a decent upgrade.

Works for me, but he needs to lose the feet for hands

Hey guys, Dragons fan coming in peace.

Just wanted to asked a few questions about Jonus Pearson. Apparently STGI have signed him for next year on a two year deal, expect the announcement soon I imagine. Nene is moving up to the Cowboys it would seem.
What do you know about him? Strengths/weaknesses etc? Just want to know what to expect and if we picked up a good deal here.

Cheers!
Depends on how much your paying for him...
Anyway, IMO
He's worth more than Hunt.

Welcome,

A lot of people mentioning his boots but that was a once off game. Hes a good runner of the ball and has a fair bit of upside , has cut out the rookie errors he had in him. By far his weakest link for me is something that could be fixed with increased game time youd hope-his involvement. He takes about 8-10 runs in qld cup, but in nrl he’s lucky to get to 8 and isnt the first to put his hand up for the tough runs. Its not enough for a first grade winger these days. This could change massively with more games as his confidence grows in first grade, but it may not because otherwise we would have given him more opportunity if it was showing signs of changing as hes been with us lomg enough to change this and grow confidence. The change of clubs could also wake him up to this, his talent is good. Very handy pick up for you guys, but doubtful whether he could be a consistent year after year and 20+ game a season winger at nrl level-although this could be wrong.

I think if we lose him along with opacic its a sign that we are keeping oates and possibly keeping kahu (hopefully just as back up and only if it doesnt cost us TPJ). Also, herbie fansworth seems a prospect and with staggs and shibasaki our depth wont be woeful. Hopefully fansworth is a prospect though because we havent had an exciting PURE wing prospect come through since yow yeh...

Pearson really impressed in his last game here. He seems like he could be a good winger. The ice skating one is a fun memory though.

Jonas has come on in leaps and bounds this year. I think next year is the year he will kick on.

Bit worried about our backline depth if he leaves. Potentially, we could lose Oates and Kahu, Opacic is going to NQ so if Jonas goes we are starting to look a bit skinny there. Only really leaves us with Staggs and Shibasaki as backline backup if that all happens. Be nice if we gave Michael Purcell from the Jets a go.

He’s small but I think he is worth a go too. He is smart in defence he uses his speed to his advantage. His last game on tv the opposition winger made a break and I thought Purcell (playing fullback and back peddling) was a no hope of stopping him but he was just buying time for the cover defence to come so the winger went for the corner then Purcell striked and bundled him into touch. Great play most players would just pray they hit and stick

I don’t like this new poster

Please stay Jonus

Are people forgetting we have Jack Bird ( a centre ) signed for over 700k?

1. Darius Boyd
2. Corey Oates
3. Jack Bird
4. James Roberts
5. Jamayne Isaako

Kotoni Staggs, Jordan Kahu, Gehemat Shibasaki.

May be worth running light with the outside backs in order to compensate for Bird's big contract.

I have faith in our depth. Would have faith in any QLD cup player deemed worthy by Bennett. Would be nice to have another Isaako story next year.

That'd be the 1-5 I'd like to run with.

I'd say Boyd and Isaako could switch throughout the game.

Having some tall wingers in Oates and Boyd would do us good.

Ferguson and Tupou were just plain intimidating out wide for the Roosters this year.

I think this is something that is not utilized anywhere near enough by the broncos.

To me a cross field kick to a tall winger is a nice little get out of trouble play for the halves.

Take the roosters and storm it's an easy play when nothing is on to just execute a kick to the corner and give them a chance for a try, contest with the defender (which may lead them to an error) or now more than ever the defensive blockers taking out the winger for a penalty.

The worst result is a knock on by your winger or misplaced kick for easy catch ingoal. Both are pretty easy fixes through execution on kicks and a get out for the winger to simply knock it back infield.

Compare that to the current broncos norm which is trying to grubber in goal for a repeat set. There is typically very little chance of a try (unless you put it in as a surprise kick), but very real chance for a meek turnover, kicking it dead or kicking it short for another easy changeover.

To me a cross field kick of any sort that allows the winger to compete appears, at least from the outside, to be an easier technique to execute and gives them an easy play on 5th when absolutely nothing is happening in the set.

I also like the idea of kicking to our athletic second rowers who would be competing with their halves... cows do this with Gavin Cooper all the time and you can't tell me Gillett, Sua, Glenn, TPJ and Fifita wouldn't be great options for competing on kicks. Almost all of them have either played in the centers or could fill in there now.

Boyd is 6ft? Not exactly a gaint, especially when compared to Oates, Furgo, and Tupou.

The grubber kick is something teams will start defending against better after the Roosters had success with their "foot out" tactic this year too IMO. Definitely wanna see more creative kicks in the air in attack.

He broke his arm for Dolphins and didn't play the last month of the year but before that was certainly strong for Dolphins. He isn't off contract until end of next year so joining Dragons would involve a release.

I'd say we would be willing to release him. I know he had talks with NQ

From what i gather, he was getting a little to big for his boots, his contract was up at the end of the year so we didnt stand in his way.

Releasing every guy that has a bit too much confidence isn't a great plan.

Some of the best players have too much confidence and they're just lucky they have the physical capability to pull off the miracle plays.

Allan will probably show us why he was a bit cocky or whatever it was you insinuated.
