Broncos Player Movement and Rumours 2020

I'm sure the stand up guy Macca is that he'll offer to resign in order that we have the money to retain Fifita, but I don't for one minute expect it of Delarious Voyd.

8 mates and i went up to the Broncos vs Cowboys game , been doing this pilgrimage for 4 years now and once again had a great weekend.
Anyway, back at the casino where we stayed we ran into a few former Bronco players.
One conversation with a former player who is still involved with the Broncos came up with something interesting.
He told us that Broncos are moving heaven and earth to try and get Ben Hunt back to the Broncos.
This quite shocked me at the time and still don't quite know what to make of it.
Anyway make of it what you will.

I could handle Hunt at 5/8.
6.Hunt
7.Dearden
9. Turps

No way we could afford that unless we get out of gillet (injuries) Boyd, macca.

TL;DR: Forget about offloading Macca and Boyd to the Titans.

Gold Coast Titans don’t have salary cap space for Alex Glenn

Gold Coast have ruled out a poaching raid on Broncos veteran Alex Glenn due to a salary cap squeeze that has left the Titans with just $100,000 to rebuild the club as a premiership force. Titans culture chief Mal Meninga told The Sunday Mail his hopes of snaring Glenn have been torpedoed by financial roadblocks that illustrate the enormous task ahead for incoming coach Justin Holbrook.

Despite languishing in last-place, headed for their second wooden-spoon in eight years, the cash-strapped Titans are almost at their salary cap limit.

Past administrators have farcically bungled the Gold Coast’s salary cap management, leaving Meninga and new recruitment chief Ezra Howe the complex task of reconstructing the Titans’ roster with limited funds.

Glenn remains off-contract at Brisbane and revealed during the week he is open to joining the Titans given his links to the region, with the 255-game Bronco having lived on the Gold Coast for the past 16 years. Meninga said Glenn, one of the NRL’s most professional trainers, would be an ideal recruit to spearhead a new era under Holbrook, but concedes the Titans cannot table an attractive offer.

“To be honest we only have $100,000 to spend in the salary cap — that’s all we have got,” Meninga said. “We are jammed for funds under the salary cap. “I would love to sign Alex Glenn. He is a quality player and a great leader, he could definitely enhance the club, but financially I don’t think we can afford him. “There’s definitely interest in Alex from our end, but it’s having the ability to pay what a player of his quality is worth.”

The Titans’ salary cap position means any roster overhaul will not happen any time soon, with new coach Holbrook tasked with delivering success in 2020 with essentially the same squad that imploded this season. And the Titans will soon face fresh retention headaches. The club has 14 top-liners coming off-contract next year, headlined by Origin ironman Jai Arrow, boom rookie AJ Brimson and key forwards Ryan James, Nathan Peats and Kevin Proctor.

Leading playmaker Tyrone Roberts and winger Phillip Sami are others who will be playing for contracts, but it will give Holbrook and Meninga the opportunity to free up cap space by moving on those who aren’t performing.

“We have got to work through our contracted list at the moment,” Meninga said. “That’s part of our dilemma — trying to improve the team if we possibly can with the players we’ve got under the salary cap. “We believe we have enough depth in our ranks to make some progress, but we are always on the lookout for quality people.” Broncos legend Darren Lockyer believes the Titans can make significant improvement under Holbrook next season.
“I think we will see the Titans start to regenerate their roster over the next two to three years,” he said. “If their salary cap is tight, the Gold Coast have to find a way to get the current group collectively lifting their games.”

One name springs to mind that went a long way to causing this train wreck - Taylor. How ironic that the poor guy is currently a basket case and can't even play.

If Hunt were to be looking to come back for a redemption story and not for money then it’d be worth considering.

Man journalism sucks. So they have 14 players off contract after next year. Yes, the Titans will suck again next year but after that, re-sign Arrow and Brimson whatever they cost and then go from there. I am sure they are not going to lose anything in those other 12 players worth keeping. Both Proctor and Peats have stagnated, perhaps even gone backwards and James is an injury magnet.

If Hunt is coming back to play 6 with the dragons coping at least half of his salary, then welcome home Ben.

Anything else then no way.

1. Milford
6. Hunt
7. Dearden
9. Turpin

Yes please!

I'd love to have Hunt back. Would the Dragons really want to let him go though, since they're losing Widdop as well?

that's it......stop the dreams and hopes of luring Hunt, Ponga & Holmes...get our own backyard sorted first...

This story concerning Glenn and the Titans....I believe this helps us...if there is minimal market for him then puts the club in a strong position to keep Glenn for under....

...and hopefully for the love of God then resign Fifita..!!!!!!!!

this would have to come from Hunts camp....as you say what club would tolerate losing 2 players of such quality back to back..??

It's a no from me, I think Hunt is cooked mentally, whenever there is a pressure moment, he will find a way to derp it up. If we are going to buy experience, buy Green from the Warriors, he fits the bill for exactly what we need.

Hunt at 9 six months ago, YES. But now that we have Turps, it’s a NO from me.

There will be other clubs willing to pay him more than we would offer (600-700ish)

As for Ponga, YES at the right price (1mil plus 3rd parties), 1.5 straight off the cap would be salary cap suicide

Holmes, will go to either Sharks or Cowboys

Broncos should be moving heaven and earth to lock up Fifita on a loooong term deal. Not the one who dropped the Premiership for us. Fifita along with other current youngsters would bring Premierships to the club.

Fifi is an youngster with immense potential & by the time he passes mid 20’s, he will be at total different level skills wise & would surpass the best back rowers the game has produced. We MUST sign him.

Locky - Sign up Fifita & send off Boyd along with Macca & Gillet(if he’s not healthy)!
