Well, well, well.. 🤡
I have to agree with Wolfe on Haas at this point in his career. Longevity is the greatest stat and Haas just does not have this yet. He certainly looks as though he will become a great prop for us and possibly surpass Webke and Lazarus.

I dont see why Payne wont. He isnt Dave Taylor. He works hard ( not going to say he isnt an idiot as he has shown he can ), and he physically has it all. The only things i can see stopping him are injury, if he gets slack, or when he gets worked out if he cant adapt his game. I dont see it happening though.

Of course players of today are going to pump out bigger stats than the older guys due to the development of the game and how it is played these days. As @Wolfie says, stats from a pot plant like Aaron Woods would probably stack up really well against stats from a legend like Webcke but we all know who is the better player. Heck, even Aaron Woods's mum and dad would think Webcke is a better player.

I totally get where @Wolfie is coming from. Haas needs to produce this type of form year in and out for the next few years to get to Webcke's level but I wouldn't want to be betting against him at this point in time.

I think there might be a bit of rose tinted glasses going on over Webby. He was a quality player with a great motor but he was definitely more of a toiler than a freak like Haas

Yeah he needs to talk to TPJ mad get something going on. That said, Taumalolo doesn't have much of an offload game either and he goes ok.

I respect that point of view, and he's absolutely right in some ways. Lodge deserves a good amount of respect and credit for the season Haas has had, he's a more comparable player to Webcke in this situation, usually taking the first run of the set and getting drilled, setting it up for Payne (Petero)

Pulls in the whole middle, usually 3 bloke to take him down and Haas eats meters.

Dunno if its offloads so much, but i noticed Taumalolo passing a lot more these days.

Regarding stats, I think they could be a bit inflated this year, just based on the way we play. There's not a lot of ball spreading.

FFS, every time I see that a new post has been posted I get excited thinking it’s about a Bronx signing or re-signing etc only to see pages and pages of a fucking useless debate that has ZERO to do with broncos rumours and signings.

**** it off to the Haas thread or start a new one, either way piss off out of this thread

Yeah but it's been mentioned it goes up in his last two years, so even if it is $700k + it's still not worth it.
He is definitely on atleast a million.......... unless he leaves before next season, then he will definitely only have been on about 150k so we won’t be able to replace him.

I said i wouldnt reply, but i will, so my bad. I didnt insinuate anything. I asked a question, nothing more. I dont see in certain situations that you can rely on statistics because of the variable. You cant compare like for like runs. You just cant, so its a bit irrelevant i guess. I havent made any mistake either, and i never said Haas isnt close to Webcke as an NRL prop. I have made it pretty clear Webcke is better simply because over a career he has proved he is better. I've also made it clear if Haas keeps developing he will become our best ever prop, but at the moment, he cant be put into that category after 12 months.

I wonder if they have always used the same guidelines to measure player statistics or if they were different 10 years ago. I'm not fan of stats as i feel they can be so skewed and misleading. As i mentioned before, Sua was going to get Glenn out of the team because his stats were better. Sadly for him, where it mattered, in the things you cant measure, Glenn was miles in front.
Generally agree with most of this but @Wolfie a better way of expressing what I believe you meant is that Webcke could be considered 'better' is that he's proven over the distance and as brilliant as Haas is, he is not. Naturally we all understand he hasn't had that opportunity!

If he stays fit and focused in the professional sense and maintains his current standard then it's likely he will far surpass the great man. It's hard to not be over the moon about Haas, Lodge, TPJ, Carrigan, Fifita and Flegler not to mention a few of the lesser lights.

My hope is they really like one another as people and the differences in pay packets never causes any grief. A moderate support team, the rest of the team that is will deliver us a premiership and perhaps the next back to back. How good that would be!

Big loser when all the dust settles and monies been spent is Oates. Understand he has a contract on the table but hasn't yet signed. Perhaps signing a one year deal was not the way to go as it’s panned out given the arrival since of Herbie, Xavier, Periese and company.

It’s no coincidence his diving tries into the corner have dried up since Darius has shifted into 5/8 and Milfs not been throwing the cutout passes to him.

He is a favourite of mine who seems out of sorts and I fear with the end of the season approaching he might be lost to the Broncs.

It was Darius who was throwing the cutout passes before aswell?? Can't remember to many milf had done, it was always milf to boyd out to oates.

I thought I'd read that a deal for Oates was pretty much a done deal. Could be wrong of course.

What I said.

Pretty much what i meant!

It’s all what I meant. (Just going with the flow of the last two posts)

I can't get the article to link but I just read that Boyd is supposedly on 700k next year and his player option in 2021 actually goes down to 400k. (Seibold was quoted in the article)
That will easily allow us to sign Fifita and Staggs.
