Brisbane Broncos forward Tevita Pangai has been nominated for the 2017 Ken Stephen Medal.

Brisbane Broncos forward Tevita Pangai has been nominated for the 2017 Ken Stephen Medal.

A young player setting the standards for his teammates around him, Tevita has a genuine passion for community work. The 21-year-old owes this dedication to his parents, who taught him to be "first and foremost a great person, then he can be a great player".

A popular presence during the Broncos' open training sessions at Red Hill, Tevita is always last in the sheds; spending time meeting the public, posing for photos, and signing autographs.

Tevita is a regular visitor to the Broncos Community Department, searching for ways to get involved and willing to jump in at short notice.

Between his incipient NRL career and his studies for a Bachelor of Business Degree, the Tongan forward still finds the time to give back to those less fortunate than himself.

When sidelined with a serious injury earlier in the year, Tevita still found a silver lining. Through a tough rehab he gained perspective, acknowledging that there were those experiencing far tougher times and his enthusiasm to give back to the community only strengthened.

This year, Tevita has volunteered for numerous activities whether that be serving cups of tea and bowls of soup through Rosie's, visiting Lismore after the area was devastated by floods, or surprising Indigenous students at Beyond the Broncos workshops, a mentoring program he has earmarked as important to him.

Acutely aware of his responsibility to, and impact on, young people, Tevita seeks to proudly represent Rugby League wherever and whenever possible.

The Ken Stephen Medal
Ken Stephen was an administrator who devoted 28 years to the NSWRL in various capacities. He retired shortly before his death in 1988. The Ken Stephen Medal recognises the efforts of an NRL player, who has not only achieved on the field, but has also committed time off the field to community projects.

A player is nominated by their NRL club for their involvement in charity work, youth development or community support. The nominated player will have consistently demonstrated their commitment to making a difference in their community and be seen as a role model in this area at their NRL club.

The NRL Community Awards recognise Rugby League's unsung heroes for the tireless work they do to support the game they love. From volunteers and teachers, to players at a first-grade level, the awards pause to honour, reflect and congratulate those who make a positive difference for many in their communities, week after week.

He sounds like a champion young fella [emoji106]

BRONCOS BOUND
THE Broncos have secured a utility option to replace the departing Benji Marshall.
Journeyman playmaker Shaun Nona is expected to join Brisbane’s full-time squad next season.
The Broncos have $100,000 to play with under the salary cap following the departure of Marshall to the Wests Tigers next season.
Without Marshall, the Broncos have a utility spot vacant on their full-time roster but any recruit would have to come at a budget price and Nona looks like being the man.

Nona is well-travelled, playing for Intrust Super Cup clubs Northern Pride, Easts Tigers and most recently Wynnum-Manly.
He has been part of the Melbourne Storm system and was a member of Illawarra’s NSW Cup premiership-winning team last year before heading to the Seagulls this year as a mid-season signing.
The Broncos could yet add a more experienced utility to their ranks but at the moment Nona is firmly in the mix to make his NRL debut next year.
Second-tier halfback Sam Scarlett, who plays for Brisbane’s feeder-club Souths Logan in the Intrust Super Cup, has been retained for next season after it was initially feared he would be cut.

Also one of the professional athletes adding his voice to the plight of West Papua, defs my favourite player right now.

Hi guys..

Just been talking with a friend of mine who is the president of one of the intrust clubs.

He mentioned to me that Lodge is signed already with broncos for next season...

He has been spot on with other things he told me before.. but ill wait till its officially anounced.

Just thought i would put it out there

Can the titans just **** off already

To be fair Demetriou is a man on a mission to be a Head Coach.

Northern Pride - 2013-2014 - HC

Cowboys - 2015 - Assistant.

Dragons - 2016 - Cutters HC.

Broncos - 2017 - Assistant.

Pretty clear his end goal is Head Coach as soon as he can get it. Has jumped ship every year for the past three years. His rise has been meteoric so he has clearly impressed many people. He was actually playing as recently as 2012 (as captain/coach for Keighly-UK in 2012).

Well, he can continue an apprenticeship at a premier club under one of the most successful coaches of all time or take on the job of being the Hayne Pain's whipping boy.

I know which one I'd take.

Bit of a name from left field, but I remember @Smokin' Joe mentioning the name Sandor Earl 12 months ago as a possible Wayne "redemption" signing, he's looking for a team for next season, could be a smokey.

I think Earl will most likely sign with the Storm, He lives in melbourne. He may have even held talks with Bellamy
