I don't know enough about those two players to know if I like the idea of signing them.

Ryan Bailey
Meanwhile, Bailey, who has Jamaican heritage, is one of UK Super League's most accomplished forwards. The 29-year-old monster tips the scales at 107kg and has intimated his desire to test himself in the NRL next season after winning six premierships since his debut for Leeds in 2002.
He's 1.98m, so the guy is huge and accomplished in the SL.

I haven't watched Vave so I have no idea what he's like.

There is some really good talent in the Super League and they would be keen to play for us if we made a play at them. In recent years blokes there has been a good share of Englishmen that have come here and made a real impact.

He's also 29, turning 30 in November.

Not ideal...

Gallen is 32 in August, Parker 31, Lewis 30 in August, Watmough 30 in October, just to name a few examples. I don't think age is a huge factor if he signs a 2 year contract with an optional 3rd year extension. A Lot of forwards hit their best form around 30 years of age, so I don't think age is a big worry. I'm more worried about his contract price, I wouldn't want to sign him on big dollars when he might not be very good here. He could be too big and slow to be effective.

FWIW, I think we need to be looking at our halves before we go signing untested (in the NRL) forwards a few years from retirement.

So there's this young lad named Sam whose keen to play over here and plays in a key position that we struggle at. So we go across to where he plays and instead scout this 29 year old prop instead of Sam... hmmm.

Might need a 2nd opinion on this idea.

What do you think Ben Hannant?

Yep, me too Ben, me too.

I agree completely but there's no halves on the market :crying:
There's this guy called SJ who I'd like to sign, Warriors have just signed another half so there's a slight possibility they may release him 1 year early if we try hard... I don't like our chances though. There's also Sam Williams but he's hardly a proven commodity but IMO could not be worse than Prince or Wallace so I'm all for his signing.

Really hope we don't sign Bailey.

It'd be like signing Carlaw or somebody of that ilk.

Their experience looks impressive but really, he's soft as. Can throw a punch, which won't help us one bit.

Never seen Ryan Bailey play so I'll reserve judgement. No doubt we need big boopers so it couldn't hurt if we don't pay too much.

To be honest I'm just really happy to see that we might sign ANYONE. I'm a bit of a vave fan and at 24 his best years are in front of him

I wouldn't worry about it.

Unforunately one of the only videos of him I could find on youtube was him being "put in his place" with another player pulling an Ennis and punching him in the head repeatedly as he got up to play the ball because he took exception to getting bumped on the head while Bailey was thrashing to get up.

I know stats don't tell the full story, but..

Bailey(10 games, 29 years in a team ranked 5th) compared to SAnderson (9 games, 27 years in a team ranked 11th) this year..

54 Less All Run Metres
15 More Hit Ups
58 More Tackles
2 More Missed Tackles
2 More Errors
3 More Penalties Against
10 More Tacke Busts
3 More Offloads
1 Red Card

Less discipline but slightly better Missed tackle % and a heavier defensive workload..seems to shrug off tacklers..but doesn't do much with it making almost 2m less per hit-up. IMO Not what we need.

The article makes it sound like Bailey's manager came to us to see whether we're interested.

Where as they make it sound like we're pursuing Vave.

Neither impress me.

I'd rather Shillington than either of these nuffies. And I think Shillington is quite the creampuff these days.
