Long term I don't like the looks of any play makers available. Look at how we manage our halves at the moment. Can you honestly say Widdop would flourish under our management/coaching staff? Nope, he would be worse here than at the Storm.

You're so emo! :P

I do think we need to look at our attacking coaching, that's for sure. But I think it's as simple as the coach being less restrictive on the formation of the back rowers and give the halves more control over where they want people to run. I remember when Prince was at his best he had 2 players coming deep running outside in angles and then a flat runner heading dead straight outside them.

He had the option to dummy inside to each of those outside-in runners and then hit the straight runner, or if he saw the defence wasn't getting lazy on the inside, he'd turn it to one of those players and they'd catch them napping. Or even go himself. It was magic to watch.

He knows how to make attack happen, but I think we need to take the leash off him and his side of the field.

Wallace, on the other hand, needs to play to a plan. He doesn't have that natural instinct or ability to play what's in front of him. Hook also didn't trust Corey Norman to have that ability either so he was coached to a strict plan too - and we saw how bad he was at it last year.

So yes, I do agree with you that if we sign a quality half then Hook needs to give them the control of their side of the field, and in fact probably the whole attack. But I only think he hasn't done that to this point because the cattle in the halves haven't been capable. If we got a Thurston (we won't, obviously) I know Hook wouldn't say "right, put your show and go away, and run these plays each set, no exceptions"...that'd be stupid. And Hook isn't stupid.

I can't see any reason why not. The last 2 weeks prove we can play attacking footy. Why we chose to play like 13 props for so long is still a mystery but hopefully that style is behind us.

Hook may not be stupid, but he can be blind/stubborn. At the end of the day I guess I would still be excited if we got Widdop. It would be bad if we signed him for a lot though and he didn't improve under us. Be a waste of cap that's for sure. Mind you if I was really honest with myself I would love just about any signing in the play maker role, we need someone.

EDIT: except Norman :)

I'd want Widdop as fullback to replace Norman. I don't think he is the half we are desperate for. We already have that half at the club.. Ben Hunt

Not after Widdop, the club hasn't even met with his management and by the sounds of things Widdop won't be looking around.

Give Hunt a go! Give Hunt a go! Give Hunt a go!

Who are we after then?? I can almost bet we will sign nobody new

Melbourne have a three year deal lined up for Widdop.

I'd say it would include a pretty big speed boat as well.

Not keeping Thaiday or Hannant? What a stupid idea!

Not at all sold on Widdop. He's not a star, I think he just looks better because he's in the Storm team. I certainly don't get excited by the prospect of signing him and cringe at the idea that we'd pay him 600k or whatever to do so.
not a star at 5/8, a star at fullback and i would pay him that much to play fullback !

Technically 4 times (1988, 1989*, 1991, 2010).

* finished equal 5th, lost midweek play-off.

But yes, exactly, we've been spoiled. And while I'm glad the Broncos have the chequebook open, if the player we want isn't available, then let's keep that money and keep looking. Don't throw it at a nuffy like Carney or something.
carney a nuffy ? really, what is corey norman when he plays 5/8 then ?

Yep. Honestly, as critical as I was in the first 3 rounds, we have a playing roster that's top 8 quality. That's probably the extent, and we need a quality half (and fullback if Norman does leave), but that doesn't mean we should give up on this year. Premiership? Beyond us. Top 4 should be our goal, Top 8 our pass mark.
i actually don't believe a premiership is beyond us, we can match it with the best on our day.
the warriors have been sh!thouse all this year and all last year. mateo still killed it last year, and hed be awesome at the broncos. until we stifle his offload. so hed be awesome til round 2.
haha, it would be killed in first training session. probably in the contract stipulations.

Haha I don't disagree tbh. I think Parker should off load more often because he's damn good at it most of the time. In all honesty I would like Mateo to join us but I feel we're better off spending on the backline.

David Williams is off contract, that's one guy I wouldn't mind signing, only 26 and a very solid/good winger who would serve us well for a few years at the least.

Shaun Johnson. That's who I really want. Get him Gee.
williams is very injury prone though, otherwise i like him.

Our backrow is already full of talent. No need to sign Mateo.
apart from the fact that he is a gun !

Our side doesn't need another backrower. Would be crazy to pay big money for Mateo. AP you love to overrate opposition players don't you.

You won't get any arguments from me AP, if there's one thing I agree with you on, it's that we should sign players to play footy, not recruit for the local church. I've made it no secret that I think we should still get Dugan

I wouldn't be disappointed if we got Mateo but if we're recruiting anyone from the Warriors, Shaun Johnson is the way better choice, give the Warriors fans 100,000 free tickets, just make it happen :thumbup1:

If Carney was on our team AP would be the first to start bashing him saying we should have never signed him :P

AP is happy for the broncos to overpay the likes of Dugan and Carney. You don't see the storm signing up fuckwits.
