Broncos Player Movements and Rumours 2013

Would we even want Kevin Locke? I personally think he's got talent and a lot of potential, I could probably live with -

1) Locke
2) Kahu (JYY)
3) Hodges
4) Reed
5) Hoffman

For next year.

I rate him highly and even if he isn't playing too well right now, guys like him and Johnson have shown enough to they could be stars.

Sounds like Locke has some serious injury issues. I'd hate to have another injury prone type in our backline. At his best he is worth having though. I couldn't see the club going for Quade unless he approached them. He just has his finger in too many pies.

Nope.

It's just @broncospwn hoping if he posts 'Shaun Johnson' enough times on BHQ, then Shaun Johnson will come to the Broncs.

I'm offended by this Ning -- I would like to be credited with leading the SJ circle jerk!

May I ask how the Shaun Johnson thing started? Has there ever been any news that he may come here? or even leave the Warriors?

There has been talk that he might leave the Warriors

although I think that was more to do with wanting to play in the world cup 7's ....or sumthin' like that.

LOL at whoever wants Kevin Locke. He is mistake riddled and tiny for a fullback. He might have speed and comes up with something to clap about every handful of games but he is no better to Hoffman (which no one wants at fullback).

If Kahu keeps developing the way he has he should definitely be our fullback next season.

Lol. I wonder if some of the players we are supposedly going to sign know anything about it.

If the fans picked the side and were in charge of recruitment we'd be flying :)

The Broncos would be full of flash in the pan players, Oh Kemp you had a good 2008, you're captain.. Leon Bott had a good run once, hire him back and while we are at it Shaun Johnson looks alright.. Let's give him everything he wants, It's not the halves problem the Warriors suck right?

Everyone views Kahu as a fullback so unless a fullback falls into our laps why chase one and risk losing Kahu before he has had his chance?

1. Kahu
2. Yow Yeh
3. Hoffman
4. Hodges
5. Copely
6. Macca/Granville/Hunt
7. Macca/Granville/Hunt
8. Hannant
9. Macca/Granville/Hunt
10. McGuire
11. Glenn
12. Thaiday
13. Parker

14. Reed
15. J.Wallace
16. Hala
17. Gillett

And that's leaving out players like Oates, Gibb, Baptise, Whitchurch and Slyney who seem to be highly rated as well. It's not just about chasing the big names, The talent is within the ranks to be a force in the NRL for years to come, they just need to be utilized correctly.

While i'd love to see a Q.Cooper, DCE or Barba in Bronco colours, I'm not convinced any of them would make a difference if the coaching isn't set up right.

DCE and Barba would do great in any club, regardless of coaching I think.

Yeahh that team ain't gonna win anything.

Why won't it? What do you think holds it back and where would you improve?

Okay well for starters, Kahu at fullback - I'm not totally against the idea, but I'd love to know where everyone got the impression he's our odds-on, rolled-in-gold option for FB next year. On the basis of what, exactly? A couple of runs at centre and wing? A few runs in the u20's a couple of years ago, before busting his knee twice? He could be an excellent fullback, then again he could be pretty damn ordinary, so why are we pinning our hopes on him? You personally may not be, but a lot of people all of a sudden are keen on Kahu at fullback based off, from my opinion, very little showings thus far.

Our backline stinks. Hoffman is a wonderful winger (even if he hates it there), but outside of that we don't have a lot. Yes, we have Hodges, but we've even seen this year that his quality is starting to drop even if he is trying his best. He will be a year older and slower next year and will still struggle to play a couple of high intensity games in a row - this is our xfactor, mind you. Reed is solid but he's never going to break a game open which is fine, you don't need superstars in every position, I'm ok with him.

Copley is Copley, he will be serviceable at best but people have forgotten that outside of a few games last year, the guy still didn't know how to catch the ball or position himself, I don't see how being out for 12 months fixes these issues.

We all love YY but who knows how he will comeback, expecting him to comeback and be the leaping quiksilver winger that he was is just a fantasy.

So then, in summary of our backline, we will have 1 good winger, 1 good but aging centre, green fullback, green winger, solid centre. Doesn't exactly scream premiership material, does it?

Do I really need to go on about the halves?

the forward pack is solid but it's not as awesome as its made out. Hannant is good, usually, gives you 7.5 out of 10 but is sometimes susceptible to a poor game (and when he does have one no one else steps up, it seems), McGuire while potentially good hasn't done much this year (injury plagued).

I might be alone in this one but Alex Glenn has gone backwards at a rate of knots this year. The lines he ran in previous years, nowhere to be seen, doesn't seem to be making a dent in the line, just basic hitups and tackling. He's turned into a robot instead of a player we can rely on in the opp 20.

Parker is Parker, gives his all, champion.

Thaiday is struggling imo, he doesn't know how to handle giving 100% and motivating the lads. He was better when he didn't have the responsibilities of being a captain, he could just tear in and have a spell. he may have lost some aggro as well in trying to be more mature, which I think can inhibit a forwards performance.

Our bench is average at best. Hala has some impact but has a low motor, J Wallace seems to give away a few penalties everytime he comes on. Gillet has plateaued and isn't improving. Lui, Slyney, Whitchurch, these guys are rated? really? by who? I bet you in 5 years time these guys will still be playing Qcup, even when they have played they have shown no more than old mate a few years back who kept getting the callup from Central Capras, guy williams was it?

I don't buy into the theory at all that we have the talent. I think we're closing our eyes and hoping that when we open them, the situation will have changed. We've recruited badly and now the realization has set in.

I don't know about you guys, I try not to be blinded by optimism or pessimism, but there is just nothing that screams "title winning squad" with the 25 we have at the moment. Perhaps, conversely, you can explain to me why the squad you posted will beat the likes of Souths, Melb, Manly etc, with something more than hope and optimism as your drivers?

Just because I love firing up the rumour brigade...

So there's a few people here that consider the Wallace move to hooker as more than meets the eye. That it's being done because Wallace is leaving, and it's giving Hunt & Prince an opportunity to gel as they're our likely 2014 halves. My question then is this - why is Norman being kept at fullback? If Hook is looking towards 2014, why is this heartless, lazy bum still our #1? Playing Devil's advocate, consider this. He's being kept there because... dun dunnnn... our #1 for 2014 isn't part of our squad yet. Yeah, get them fires burning!

Or even more likely, maybe Corey Norman is our #1 for next season, LOL.
