So todays CM article says Hoffman is again going to test his value on the open market ??

I kinda feel he'd go OK at fullback under Bennett.... and i'd actually rather him than Boyd to be honest.

Hoffman can tell his story walking if he is going to demand playing at fullback. The way I see it is if Bennett gets rid of Barba he is getting Boyd back to play fullback. Hoffman doesn't realize you need to be able to pass to be a fullback in the modern game.

If Hoffman re-signs early it shows Wayne Bennett's hand. He's either going to start him at fullback or convinced him to play wing (or centre).

I'm never concerned when players (or their managers) say they will test their value on the open market, because every player in the league does that anyway, regardless of what papers report or they say publicly.

i did laugh at the part where his manager said "Josh has had a real crack at five-eighth but he obviously plays his best football at fullback."

Interesting article. I'm extremely intrigued to see what Bennett is going to do with all these players. The amount of potential line ups is almost endless.

I'd love to keep Hoffman at the club. The guy has massive amounts of heart, can cover a number of positions at a pinch and if anyone can convince him to stay as a Winger, it's Bennett. Cue the team listing...

The other interesting point I got from that article, is Bennett is bringing his fitness guru with him. I've always thought Newcastle look in great shape this season, so hopefully this Hickman fella, combined with Corvo, can get a few guys like Thaiday, Parker and Gillett into a bit better physical condition. Hopefully Parker drops the 5 or so kegs he put on to play Front Row, for his move back to Lock.

What I took from it was: He's 26, so thinks he may only have one or two contracts left, so he wants to take the biggest offer he can to support his family post football (which is fair enough, IMO). Having said that, I think if Brisbane bump his current contract up, he'd stay in the team wherever he's needed. Whether he's worth $500k for someone who could arguably be the best Winger in the comp, is a question only Bennett can answer.

Bennett has been given the green light to put a broom through the whole club and set things up as he sees fit, BUT, the condition is that there are 4 staff members who MUST stay. Corvo is one, Nolan another.

Hickmans was the performance director in 2008, he took over Benton. He was on football staff for two years under Benton before he got the role.

Broncos tried hard to keep him in 2008 but he followed Bennett to the Dragons.

Corvo and Hickmans do different roles. Paulo and Hooper who came on board this year will also be looking to keep their roles.

Parker's weight and shape hasn't changed at all because his role didn't change, just his number.

That's the point I made earlier, there is not a lot you can do player wise you just have to cop it and slowly get rid of what you don't want when their contract is up.

And of course the issue with doing that this time around is Bennett is expected to win Premierships so it makes it even tougher. I don't think him coming back is strictly rebuilding.
