Apparently Maiko Sivo's manager is seeking expressions of interest in him... thoughts on us making a play?
Cant see the incompetent board giving it a go.....sivo is better than oates and coates combined

He was next in line to be connected to another club , they all will . Why ? Cause they're broncos juniors, same shit different year . I don't think cowboys can out bid us and Payton isn't a coach to move away for.

You are hopefully right but Payton looks a very promising coach to be fair. And this is Garry it is coming from, that actually means there is something to this one.

Agreed though you’d have to admit it is concerning in this case as it is coming from Garry.

all Garry is confirming is what we already knew anyway ... that there is going to be interest in the kid.

it will be up to him to decide whats more important money or being in the best environment to develop as a player. and right now for a half that is the Brisbane Broncos ... forget about the world class facilities the club has at it's disposal, what's more important is the football brains trust that is around the club; who better for a young half to learn from that Walters, Langer and Lockyer.

if he chooses the development option, the money will still come, and will last a lot longer than the quick cash available right now.

Id be more confident minus Lockyer

You make good points, still worrying that this is coming from Garry. Payten seems to have a pretty good idea of what he wants.

another thing people need to remember is that as bad as 2020 was for us ... and as low as the morale was, we've still only lost one player that we wanted to keep ... and it took making said player the equal highest paid player in the history of the game in Australia (possibly the world) to get him away from us

Saying that someone is interested isn't all that hard... pretty sure Coates also met with the cows and nothing has eventuated at this stage.

If you think the Broncos are in a mess because of one bad year the cows were 14th last year (only above us and dogs), 14th 2019 and 13th in 2018. Even in 2017 they scraped into the 8 and had a dream run to the GF only to get flogged.

Their salary cap is in a mess with Morgan and Lolo on a $1m, and Val on $800k.

Payton is reasonably rated, but he gives off a bit of an impersonal vibe. He was at the cows, but jumped to warriors and then dumped the warriors after being given the opportunity for their head role to go back to the cows.

He kind of gives off a vibe that it's a business and he'll do whatever to climb the ladder.

Rumours of players being shopped (Esan Marsters).. he's let Clifford go the knights (in 2022), but prevented him going early even though it's now clear he mustn't want him. It's kind of a roosters approach "didn't work after a year, cut them loose and move onto the next"

He's talked about revamping the cows attack, but let's see if he can actually do it. He could be Seibold style with a lot of "ideas" that had a flash in the pan with warriors for half a season.

Also we can outbid anyone from 2022 onwards. We will have mass salary cap space next year. You may recall Dearden was standing next to Kevvie in a presser during the start of preseason along with Staggs... so he is clearly in the Broncos plans and will be difficult to pry away unless it's an absolutely ridiculous deal.

"But Staggs wants to leave" you say... the only report we've had was his manager shopping him around for $700k to Sydney teams. That's a lot of money for a guy that plays centre... yes Crichton just signed for $750k, but Crichton came through the grades as a fullback. Staggs came through as a second rower / centre, but is probably undersized for 2nd row in NRL... so his potential roles are limited in that sense

It also suggests that the Broncos have probably offered around $550k-$600k, so it would seem that it will take a fair chunk of change to get Staggs out of Brisbane

Payten could be a Seibold for sure but his methods are not anything like Seibold's. He isn't trying to change the game with mottos and mantras and loud music. The Warriors loved him and he got them playing well about what their circumstances should have allowed. He might turn out a dud but I doubt that, I think he is gonna be a good 'un.

I think Payten was prefered by the warriors based on situation. They were in the middle of covid and he had some success with them. Their CEO seems pretty reactive and has since jumped onto Nathan Brown as their saviour

Sure they said they loved him but players also said they loved Seibold and loved his methods. I'm sure the warriors also loved Kearney

For Dearden to jump from the Broncos to a rookie coach in Payten would be a pretty big risk, not to mention that it would probably be for less money than the Broncos can offer, and potentially competing with Asi for the halves spot next to Morgan vs guaranteed halves spot in Brisbane.

That's not a particularly good metric, we've only lost one player we wanted to keep but that player was also the only one who could leave for 2021. I'm not saying there's going to be a mass exodus but there are a fair few challenges between here and there with a lot of guys able to sign with a different club for 22 now.

Yeah as I recall he was heavily involved in the turmoil around Potter and/or Taylor at the Tigers and somewhere else too possibly. It looks like he was trying the Siebold method- get on board with a few influential players then backstab the head coach as soon as an opportunity comes up.

you may not like him as a board member ... but anyone doubting his football brains needs to be slapped back to reality

How often does he use that football brain down at training these days?

Bells Beach is about as far from Melbourne as the GC is from Brisbane. And yeah, the weather is better up there in winter for sure but it would make more sense for him to go to the Titans if he wants a beach life and a club on the way up. Unless he wants to surf at Nudgee?
What's wrong with nudged beach? Why do you need waves to carry you when the mozzies sucking u dry will make you lighter than air..

Actually heard that JT has been talking to him. Pretty sure he is a Cowboys fan as well. Could be trouble.

Ah well another one gone... wonder what we're gonna spend the $5m of cap space on for next year 🤔🤔🤔

So far Staggs gone, Coates gone, Piakura gone, Dearden now gone... Riki's off contract as well so can't wait to see who the DT link him too!!

Who else is off contract in this team that should be going elsewhere 🤔🤔
