Broncos Roster, Signings and Rumours Discussion 2021

NRL have an article that talks about our off contract halves situation. I'll sum it up since i'm too lazy to post the full article :P

Dearden
  • His preference is to stay with us
  • He is in no rush to decide his future and wants to get a feel for Walters's coaching and Brisbane's bounce-back from a 2020 wooden spoon before recommitting.
  • The club are happy to accommodate, with plans to table a retention offer once the NRL season starts in March and Walters's all-important first pre-season is completed.
Milford
  • The club won't engage in contract talks until they gauge his early season form

I'd say that the contract stalls on some of our players are because of the CEO issue .

I'd say Donaghy's first act as CEO will be seeing Milford out the door to be honest. Just a gut feeling. I wouldn't be surprised to see him at the Cows or Titans next year on a lifeboat deal.

if Walters want's Milford ... then that's exactly who Donaghy will give him

**** off it’s the reason we are getting him. To know the difference.

No CEO in the history of professional sport will ever go against the coaches wishes on recruitment/retention. CEO's aren't experts in that field, they are business people.

we're getting him because he is a top notch administrator, not because he is an expert on recruitment/retention. in fact, i'd be willing to bet that in all his time as a CEO, all he ever did recruitment wise was rubber stamp Bellamy's "requests" and then try to make the best deal possible.

Not if Dave doesn't agree with Milf's manager's asking price.

I should re-phrase, that of course depends on Milf accepting the contract we offer, which will be determined in consultation with Walters, the recruitment team and the salary cap manager. Dave won't make that decision on his own, it will come down top how much Walters wants him and if wqe can afford to pay that much (without screwing up our cap)

You don't know that.
I'm suggesting we are getting him because he knows the difference.

The difference in keeping over the hill and burnt out players on long contracts with player options as opposed to reasonable clubs keeping reasonable players on reasonable contracts - as it should be.

That’s got everything to do with recruitment and retention as much as Lockyer looking in the mirror at his skin tight suits pretending he’s the be all and end all as he was as a player. Phtfffft!

Put 2 and 2 together and it sounds like Dearden is waiting to see if the club plans on finding him a better halves partner

Or if Walters is a good enough coach to get he best out of him. Same as Coates and Staggs are watching and waiting. The fact they are in the middle of preseason and looking at other clubs may not auger well for our new coach.

This is what pisses me off.... what gives them the right to even think we should wait for them to decide. Didnt these same players just win us a fucking wooden spoon?! Staggs and dearden put in big time I know but they were still part of the worst team in Broncos history. Grow some fucking balls management, some of them will screw us over anyway.if they turn out to be great players, ah well, we had them in our team and we still won the spoon.

I am a massive Dearden fan, I want him to stay with us for a very long time.

Having said that, if he wants to lead us along and 'wait and see' and hold out for a better offer and 'test the waters' then pull it and tell him he can leave. Put a contract in front of him, tell him he's the long term future 7 of the club if he wants it and if not have fun on a short leash at the Roosters where he'll be dumped in one season if he's not instantly a superstar.

Enough of 'accommodating' and 'understanding' by the club. The kid is 19 and hasn't proven anything in first grade yet, to give him all the power is ludicrous and of course young dumb kids with greedy managers will be swayed by big money and greener pastures. Time for hardball, give him an ultimatum and be done with it. Nobody is above the club, I'd rather lose him now and be able to prepare than have him inevitably walk out at the 11th hour when someone throws massive overs at him.

The 'oh but the money was ridiculous I understand why he left, nothing Broncos could have done' argument with Fifita is rubbish. We allowed that to happen by not sticking to our guns and locking him down sooner, and the exact same thing will happen here.

Staggs isnt watching and waiting. He's been looking elsewhere even before Kevin was coach. He's chasing the money, not that there is anything wrong with that either.

Love it!

Stop being nervous nellies.

Dearden will stay a Bronco, and captain us to mutliple premierships during our decade long dynasty that make Storm and Rooster runs look like small potatoes.

This is the way.
