they're also speculating that Cam Smith will play on in 2021 at the Titans.

they have based this speculation on the fact that Cam Smith went to a Titans u19 trial match on the weekend. a trial match, that happened to have Matt Geyers son (Cam's god son) playing in

edit: p.s. they still need to come up with a player trade and still at this stage aren't prepared to give the Storm what they want
**** that article was funny... media creating hysteria (in their own mind because no one else really gives a shit about Cameron), and then completely contradict everything by immediately outlining a thousand reasons why CS9 would be there in the first place

So when the Immortal-in-waiting got spotted at a Titans under 19s trial in Coffs Harbour last Saturday it sparked the latest round of “is Cameron playing on again”?

In fairness Smith was in northern NSW with ex-Storm teammate Matt Geyer, whose son Cole plays in the Gold Coast under 19s side.

Smith is Cole’s godfather.

Also on hand at the same Titans trial match was coach Justin Holbrook and new recruit Tino Fa’asuamaleuai.

Fa’asuamaleuai’s younger brother Iszac is also part of the Titans under 19s squad.

For the record, the Titans continue to deny they have spoken to Smith.

Straight swap for one of our 'origin veterans' Tyrone Peachey/Jarrod Wallace. You heard it here first.

Courier Mail article talking about free agents yet to be resigned mentions that Richie Kennar is still without a contract, which means we have at least 1 spot left to fill depending on where we are at with Tyson Gamble and Kobe Hetherington. Tyson and Kobe were both featured in preseason photos from last week.

Both Kennar and Gamble have been re-signed but not sure they were ever announced. Maybe they just weren’t announcement worthy.

Hopefully we arent paying a cent. Theres only about 400k max left for him to be paid this season.

I actually am really excited... we got a whole team trying to prove something personally and collectively... Players have personal reputations from incidents they have to bounce back from e.g. Haas, Pangai, Staggs and you could even argue Lodge still has something to prove to us all, performance wise players like Turpin Milford Isaako are playing for their positions... Asiata, Riki they are playing to prove they belong in that starting side... Glenn he is playing to prove he should be and is good enough to be the captain... Dearden is trying to prove that he is the man to lead us into the future... and I think we’ve learnt something that almost all broncos players love and Kev should try and unite them with, They are all playing to get the fattest most unrealistic cheque they could ever get... Most importantly the team need to prove that they are worthy of that Broncos jersey and worthy of a spot in the finals!! 2020 Year of the Ambush... 2021 Ambush of the Year

If you really think about it, it's actually even a little more sinister than that.

As it stands, we average something like ONE Sunday afternoon game a year and only a handful more than that on the early Friday and Saturday time slots. This includes both home and away fixtures and it's been like this for more than a decade now.

We play basically ALL our matches on Thursday and Friday nights - in primetime viewing for the NRL, but at EASILY the worst possible time for kids and families to both watch and even more alarmingly, actually attend matches.

Now you add in the fact that the Broncos play at Lang Park, smack bang in the middle of the city and just about impossible to attend on a Thursday night if you're full time employed in regular business hours and would still like to get home to pick up your family so they can attend too.

It goes without saying that if kids don't attend football games, they just don't become fans. At least not 'fans' in the way that helps the Broncos. They don't buy memberships, they never form any real emotional connection with the club at the most critical age for kids to develop that sort of passion in life.

It's worse than this though, because on top of not being able to attend, they also are going to find it incredibly hard to even watch the games all the way through. Thursday night matches (on a school night) finish long past the time when most kids need to be in bed for the following day, and whilst it's slightly less of an issue on Friday nights, it's still a very late night for younger kids at a time where many of them are unlikely to hold an interest that late in their day.

This is all adding up to a perfect storm for the Broncos. We've already endured it for a decade or more, and soon enough there is going to be more than just one generation of kids who grew up in Brisbane and simply didn't attend Broncos games or even really watch them on TV. When those kids are adults earning a wage and should be buying up memberships, they likely wont have the engagement of inclination, and it'll be far too late to do anything about it for our club. If the Broncos aren't extremely nervous about all this, they damn well should be. It would fit in with the general level of incompetence around the place these days for them to not even be considering it mind you.

Night time football is a poisoned chalice. It's not just the case for the Broncos, but it certainly does affect them more than most given the times we play our games. It might be gold for broadcasters and sponsors, but in the long run it hurts your fan engagement and stunts the opportunity for you to grow loyalty amongst younger fans. Day time football is why the AFL kids 80-90k Mums, Dads and Kids along to the MCG and Etihad 5-6 times a weekend whilst the NRL is lucky to drag up 10k mostly adult males and a Thursday night at 8pm. I know the AFL has made the shift too, but mark my words, they'll pay the price for that down the track too.
It's so good to read a well written post like yours even if I didn't agree with the sentiment expressed. I do agree with it though!!

an inexperienced teenager with almost 0 runs on the board yet to achieve anything at this level gets offered a job playing rugby league professionally for a crazy amount of money for the average person, guaranteed to be the starting number 7 for the biggest and most well-funded club in the NRL with a long history of success (excluding last year), who brought him through the junior ranks and handed him his debut and are willing to commit to him long term...

If that's not enough to get him to sign on the dotted line and he still needs to 'see how things go' then he's a mercenary and he can go elsewhere as far as I'm concerned.
Yes but that's a hypothetical. Well, at least the guarantee of being the permanent starter 7 is shoved into your argument to pad out a weak scenario. I do see your point but you're asking, no expecting him to go against the very thing society in general expects of us all, namely to be successful as quickly as possible.

No one should think they can dictate terms to another simply because they perceive a player chooses his own path. Just because his choice means he may not want to stay a member of your 'tribe' doesn't automatically mean his choice or the time he takes to make it is wrong in any manner.
