Broncos Roster, Signings and Rumours Discussion 2021

Lodge’s contract is no good but I don’t think the game has passed him as much as people say. Last year we all know he had that broken leg impact his game, and he’s only had 1 game this year which was for 15 minutes before his hammy went.

Our go forward was great when he was on. He made 60m in 15 minutes. Different positions but BHQ darling Riki made 61m in 80 minutes. If Lodge stays fit I still think he could provide good service for the club.

Injuries are the real concern and yeah, his contract is too long and one overly favourable.

At this stage I'd rather keep Matt Lodge and play out his contract. Then to pay out $400,000 a year of his contract to play for another team. When I read that rumor in the offseason I thought it was overreach and the negatives outweighed the positives for such a move. I generally think Lodge wants to play at Brisbane unlike Jack Bird. I still think the length of the deal was too long though. If he has a two year option in his favor that was reported.

Mbye currently at the Tigers wouldn't make many first grade sides but we all know he's a better player than that, you don't make origin sides if you can't play

What has gone largely unnoticed about the 2019 series is Moses Mbye cost the series for QLD. At the end of the game 3 Mbye whinged to the ref instead of getting a quick play the ball away. The NSW defense had time to get set and rushed out to Daly Cherry-Evans forcing him to put up a bomb rather then taking a field goal. James Tedesco scored the series winning try on the next possession.

I doubt Mbye will be chosen by QLD again. The combination of new Queenslanders who emerged from last years series win. And some of the players who couldn't play and will likely return (Ponga, Fifita etc). Means Mbye will almost certain to miss out.

The problem with Mbye's game was summed up well from a poster on a Titans forum. He maybe a jack of all trades type of player but he is a master of none. Its a pass from me as well.

Riki is suffering because of the halves- they have no on field relationship and the passes could go anywhere to anyone. Being a second row in Brisbane would be a nightmare- it's like a keeping wicket to a bowler that is spraying them all over the place.
Boo hoo, poor Riki...funny how Fifita didn't use that as an excuse when barreling through 4-5 of the opposing guys on his edge.

Who said McGuire is a cancer... to be honest I think they might have cracked the shits cause he blurted out that he was sick of the shit they were coughing up every week.... Somebody has to cause their team is on track to be a bigger shambles than we were last year... at least we had youthful talented players... they got **** all apart from Taumalolo
I not actually calling " him" a cancer.....if that came across as such it wasnt my intent...

But, there ARE personal issues up there, and im saying we cannot afford to take any of their bad apples....does that mean McGuire..?

Depends, maybe he burnt his bridges here...I not sure.....

Rothfield said on 360, McGuire has been told he can leave the Cowboys. I'd take him back in a heartbeat on a heavily discounted deal.
I wouldn’t. The bloke is garbage and only has one eye. Look how often he gets blasted by someone because he doesn’t see them coming.

After reading what Josh McGuire said about the cowboys performances I would definetly take him back at the Broncos for the right price, unless he is so unliked that it effects other players.

I get the feeling he is "not liked" though bcos he tells it how it is. Some of these young players need to bloody hear it and they have had 2 1/2 years to show their "potential" without McGuire around. Individually we do not need middle forwards, but just like the cowboys, we are soft and inconsistent in the middle...
He’s part of the problem at the cowboys. He can’t even make the starting team with JT out. He’s shit.

we do need one or two key signings to get us back to the top again. mainly in the spine. a half and a hooker. I love Turps, but think he is best as a bench weapon. not much in that department available until the end of 2022, when the Brailey brothers, Freddy Lussick, Reed Mahoney and Jake Simpkin are all off contract.

I wouldn't be against signing either Dufty or Nicho Hynes for fullback, but i wouldn't mind this side running out next season. we could trial the back 5 latter this season.

Glenn to retire.

I'm now convinced that TPJ needs to start, I think he struggles to insert himself into the game from the bench, he does a better job if we throw him into the fray from the start.

1. Farnworth
2. Isaako

With manly struggling and having cap issues as well, would anyone be keen on getting cherry evans? The guy seems like he needs a change

It would depend how much manly chipped in. He's on about 1 million I think. I'd pay upto 650,000 of it no question, up to 750,000 at most. We need at least 2 quality spine players.
I think turpin and dearden can be good quality but they need to build into it in a supporting role and turpin isn't an 80 minute dummy half. Farnworyh could become a good fullback too but it wouldn't be fair or work throwing him into this mess...

Having said all of the above it's our defence that ***** us every single time. Middle and edge. For all the hype about the middle forwards of ours they have gotten worse and worse in defence and their ball handling. We need to recruit 2 or 3 RENOWNED defensive players. It wouldn't be expensive. **** attack, we win more games then we lose by simply playing 80 minutes with solid defence. Something these flops don't seem to understand. They've ran out of excuses, seems defence is uncoachable in them

I'd love to get DCE, particularly subsidised as mentioned above. He is exactly what the team needs, a gun halfback, leadership and a cool head. Manly won't let him go though, so no point even thinking about it really.

Manly are in an even worse position then us. They have a worse squad with less salary cap room from al reports. If they were smart they'd at least entertain the idea. They are shocking with Dce in the team. He isn't the problem, but he also isn't their solution.

If they keep struggling I could see them wanting to let guys go. If DCE wanted out I’m sure there’d be a way. He’d be our captain easily and suddenly we have the qld half back at the broncos. Seems more broncos like than having Adam Reynolds but this is complete wishful thinking.

I don’t understand the fuss about keeping Staggs, he’s a good attacking centre, but poor defender, and whether he plays centre or 5/8 will not make one iota of difference to fixing our issues with direction & game management. I feel like they are going all in on keeping him because they don’t want to be seen to be losing him, particularly to the titans.

Our priority has to be the halves, otherwise we are only repeating the mistakes of the past, like signing Jack Bird when what we needed was a halfback.

I’d be chasing Scott Drinkwater, Harry Grant, Daly Cherry Evans and a worthwhile 6. Fix the spine and fill the rest of the team around them

Dunno if true or not, but I have a family member who works down at NRL HQ in Sydney in the social media area. They get fed a bit of goss at times and he has been told 100% Coates is gone/is signing with Melbourne. Take it as you will, but I for one will be devo if we lose this bloke. He is one of our very few shining lights and it will be be horrible seeing him rip it up in a fucking Storm jersey next year. Can't say I blame him at all though. He will be deadly on the wing with Munster and co feeding him quality ball all the time.

Staggs and DCE at 6 and 7, that's pretty exciting.
