Broncos Roster, Signings and Rumours Discussion 2021

It's incredibly frustrating being a Broncos fan the last few years. Yes the results have been bad but it's more to do with the media. Only our players are under pressure, only we can't make excuses, only our players want to leave, in fact it seems only our players are even off contract . Everyone wants our wooden spoon winning players.

I get it, the Broncos sell the story for news in Australia but ffs it is a short sighted strategy by news. Broncos are losing fans, they aren't going to other clubs, they are going to other sports. "A new Brisbane team will fix this". The constant hammering in the media is ensuring fans of the NRL in Brisbane are leaving the game at such a fast rate that there won't be enough for a 2nd club by the time they realise. And what's news' plan here? They own the Broncos, yes they'll make a quick buck from clicks now but the amount they are devaluing their own product is insane, is no one looking ahead 2 or 3 years?
They are scum but the club just needs to get its act together. None of it will matter if they can become a powerhouse again.

Lodge’s contract is no good but I don’t think the game has passed him as much as people say. Last year we all know he had that broken leg impact his game, and he’s only had 1 game this year which was for 15 minutes before his hammy went.

Our go forward was great when he was on. He made 60m in 15 minutes. Different positions but BHQ darling Riki made 61m in 80 minutes. If Lodge stays fit I still think he could provide good service for the club.

Injuries are the real concern and yeah, his contract is too long and one overly favourable.

Riki is suffering because of the halves- they have no on field relationship and the passes could go anywhere to anyone. Being a second row in Brisbane would be a nightmare- it's like a keeping wicket to a bowler that is spraying them all over the place.

No arguments from me. I’m a huge fan of Riki too, I was just offering Lodge a bit of support via comparison. I loath the clubs half situation.

Agree with all of that.

The other thing about this 2nd team, do people just expect a 2nd Brisbane team will take off? I been supporting the Broncos for 20 years, I'm not about to just abandon ship and start supporting a 2nd team (I don't care how many spoons they get), even if that 2nd team was an extension of a QLD Cup team like Redcliffe and I have my doubts how many others would suddenly become a fan of a 2nd Brisbane team too.

The media and opposition fans just see how much talent we are able to bring through the ranks and they see how big our crowds are, there is no guarantee a 2nd Brisbane team could do that. Not even the Titans who are literally 45 minutes down the M1 are able to maintain any sort of success without buying anyone who will join their club. Look at their team ffs, do they develop any players at all? They haven't been relevant since their reinstatement into the league when they were given free reign to build whatever team they wanted.

With no helmet, no box and cracks in the wicket!

It is so very frustrating watching this team play without the halves having ANY ability to manipulate the defense or straighten up.

Just on a side note, did we end up offering Brendan Frei a contract? I think he would be a really good depth signing.

If its the Dolphins i reckon it will take off and they will do well. They have the fan base and the finances to do really well. I've been a big fan of Redcliffe for years and before Covid used to attend more of their games than the Broncos. I could see myself jumping ship!

Yeah I wouldn't be jumping ship to any of the QLD teams (current or future).. if the Broncos were to fold tomorrow I would probably be a casual supporter of a team relevant to my immediate family.

Hate the cows because they're a NSWRL golden boy and the supporters are wanks.

Titans were always nothing to me... they were and are irrelevant... they also have mostly had a NSW team that picks up a lot of players from northern NSW. Nothing wrong with that, but NSWRL is NSWRL so why the **** would I want to support them. Now I despise them because they are a NSWRL puppet with an unlimited salary cap to poach our players.

I would have a soft spot for the Redcliffe bid only because they were a big feeder for the Broncos for a long time and they are pretty much doing it all off their own bat (funding, stadium, memberships, etc.), but that would end the second they started poaching our players (which would obviously happen).

I wouldn't have a soft spot for the Ipswich bid primarily because they happily whored themselves out to the horrendous bombers bid the second they realised they were behind Redcliffe... and the NSWRL have been wanting a team in the "western corridor" forever, so they would instantly be a NSWRL puppet/golden child. But the relationship with the plastic bombers would instantly turn me off them.

Wouldn't really give a shit about the other bid... seems plastic with minimal relevance to QRL despite being an East Tigers bid... plus Easts were storm's feeder for a long time so **** them.

I would effectively become a casual fan and would probably seek out other sports or things to spend my time on

The positive is that our defence is improving, our backs are creating chances despite the terrible halves, and our forwards are mostly making pretty decent metres. If we could just get someone good in the lead the team around and partner them with Dearden we could be a pretty competent football team.

The Reynolds thing is a hard call. It seems too good to be true. All he has to do is kick in a way that takes pressure or our team and puts pressure on the opposition, and then shovel the ball around semi-intelligently and the team could be buzzing.

Agree. If one operation was to do well as the 2nd Brisbane team it's the dolphins. They're doing good things and the facilities have gotten better year on year.

That stadium would sell out every home game I reckon.

You might as well just piss off now! Oh by the way how can you jump ship?...... Siebold had them burnt!

If the Broncs were to fold, I wouldn't follow league at all. Newcastle are my second team but I don't care about them enough to keep following league. The NRL is the Broncos to me, without them, it holds no interest. I'd fully jump ship to my other favourite sports - AFL, cricket, F1, cycling, NBA, hot dog eating comp, curling.

If any of those sports are on at the same time as an NRL game that doesn't involve Brissy, I'm watching one of those other sports without even thinking twice already.
