Broncos Roster, Signings and Rumours Discussion 2021

The Broncos do not throw up the shapes that the Roosters do. Sam Walker had options when he was attacking the line, not a bunch of flat footed numpties. He would look just as unco as our current halves here. I recall the best Dearden looked was when Gillett was outside him, someone who knows how to run a line, he also worked well with Fifita at times. Broncos got none of that.

I even noticed the Sharks attacking shapes look magnificent. Haven't seen the Broncos do that in forever. Why do they not know how to fall into those positions?

I would challenge anyone to find more than three highlight reel worthy 👌 team tries from the Broncos since the ‘Great Depression’ began in 2019..

It’s been tries from busted plays & individual efforts for the most part..

If you were coaching an under 14 team and it played with the kind of passive randomness that the Broncos do, you’d call them in for extra training sessions..

yea that's what bothers me the most about the way broncos have played last 2 years.

we just have zero shape in attack and it feels we have zero game plan.

even when Newcastle were going through there rebuild it looked 100 times better with the structure they played with you could watcha game of theres and see what the attacking plan was even though they lacked the class to execute it.

with us its seriously like watching a bunch of amateurs playing park footy who have never played together before its really baffling for a nrl side

Gagai is apparently gettable, I’d be going for him for sure.

Here’s what I’d be looking at next season, the blanks are the key:

1. Farnworth/Cobbo
2. Coates (man I hope he stays)
3. (Opacic)/Niu
4. (Gagai)
5. Cobbo/Farnworth/some other kid
6. Staggs
7.
8. Haas
9.
10. (Lui/McGuire/JT2)
11. (Capewell)
12. Riki
13. Pangai Jr

14. (Watson)
15. Carrigan
16. Kennedy/Lodge/Flegler/Bullemor/Q Cup player
17. Piakura

So for me, all of Turpin, Dearden, Oates, Isaako, Milford, Paix, Teo, Glenn are all free to look elsewhere.

Turpin can likely stay simply because there is no other option really.

The key is to get those () guys in and obviously the most important thing of all is to get an organising halfback, whether it’s SJ, DCE or someone totally unexpected and I have no idea who that should be.

In the meantime, we have to get some actual NRL level depth in.

They probably all happened in round 1 this year. The only other well structured try I can remember is Jordan riki’s first try

Part of the is just constant drilling during practice and part of that has to be up to the halves getting things set up themselves. I can only imagine that both things are lacking at the Broncos.

Apparntly Souths have a salary cap cruch coming up, 2023 i believe should they cave in and give Reynolds what he wants.

So they will arguably only offer 2 year deal UP TO 2023, or try a real low ball 3 year offer even..

So, if Reynolds does end up staying, why cant we look at luring guys like Blake Taafe or Lachlan Ilias up here with a eye to devleop them into starting halfs in 12-18 months time?

We really have nothing there right now, might be a good time to start agitating their managers abut this if Reynolds stays..

That would seem to be a step sideways for the broncos, given we’re already trying to usher in a young halfback into NRL football

I don't agree with this move, i don't really see a 5/8 in him. and i certainly don't think Dearden is ready to carry the bulk of the play making responsibilities.

while i don't have an issue with him trialling at 5/8, promising him it is a bad move.

If i was going to move him into a spine position, the only one i would consider is fullback, provided he is fit enough to play the position. with his strength and running game he could be deadly with the extra room to move.

Whole heartedly agree.

Apologies if I’ve missed it as I’ve been away for a couple of days. Did anyone else on here read that we’ve agreed to swap Reece Walsh for Paul Turner effective for the remainder of this season?

Couple of well credentialed Warriors guys have indicated Turner said goodbye to his team mates today and that an announcement is coming tomorrow morning?

What does this mean for Milford?

Can’t say I’m generally a huge fan of promising a player a key spine position when they have virtually no runs on the board in that position, but I guess if they’ve already decided that Milford isn’t in their future plans and that no one is coming onto the market that they like to replace him then Staggs may be the best of what they have left to fill the role.

It’s a big gamble though. I agree Milford looks toast and offering him a new deal would probably be similarly very risky, but I’m surprised they haven’t given him at least a few more games to make that call, or at least waited until Staggs was back and had some time in the role before offering him something like that.

Shows everything thats wrong with the Brisbane Broncos if its true. You dont go around promising players a position.

If it was anyone but Chris Garry you’d be laughing it off as sensationalism, but unfortunately he’s generally very accurate as Journos go.

At this stage I’m willing to take the gamble. A 5/8 that would back up and actually threaten, I’m all for it.

At 5/8 he’d (hopefully) have protection too.
