Broncos Roster, Signings and Rumours Discussion 2021

No lover of the Milf, but this wont help our kicking game much?

It certainly won’t but really, why not give Isaako more kicking responsibility? You can’t keep a guy in the team because he sometimes kicks well but provides nothing else. Even then, he often goes missing or caught out of position when a kick needs to go up.

I think a Dearden / Staggs pairing has potential and I think Dearden will play better when the team is his instead of Milford’s but I really hope if Kev goes that way that they have bigger ambitions for fullback than Isaako.

Not sure if its been discussed elswhere but another article this morning from fox sports quoting K Hunt as saying he has no doubt he can help Brisbane if they play him at 5/8 beside Deardon and let him get his hands on the ball.

I don't know if something is happening in the background but its really starting to shit me that he isn't at least in our top 30 right now. Yes he's 34 and wouldn't have the speed he once did but this guy was an absolute gun in NRL the first time around and just as good in union. Won best back for NSW in 2019.

Given the state we are in surely its worth putting him in the side and seeing what he brings? He's sure to bring plenty of talk and some real class. And if he stinks it up he's on minimum wage and we revert back to one of our other shitty halves.

Am i the only one who thinks it should be a straight forward decision to get him in the 30 man squad at least?

I’m not doubting Kev’s ability to spot a decent half. Though in 4 games he has gone with:

Round 1: Milford right / Croft left
Round 2 ( mid game swap): Milford left / Croft right
Round 3: Milford left / Croft right / Dearden bench
Round 4: Milford left / Dearden right / Croft bench

4 rounds 4 different half combinations.

I’m not sure how highly I rate Kev’s ability to clearly identify what he wants from his halves. Though that point aside, I have no doubt that Staggs can be a damaging 6 and that he could compliment the right spine. I don’t think Isaako Dearden and Turpin are the right spine - that is a massively inexperienced spine and would huge amounts of pressure on Dearden to do everything. The spine would work if you brought in a Josh Hodgeson type Hooke who acts as a game manager, or an experienced ball playing fullback to assist Dearden. Staggs would be a great half partner for Reynolds but his back injury takes him off the table as an option imo.

At very least (and a move like this may well be the case), bringing in a guy that is experienced in their position such as Hynes and a decent bench hooker to help Turpin would be necessary for Staggs to work.
1. Hynes
6. Staggs
7. Dearden
9. Turpin
14. Connor Watson / Kurt Mann (I guess Billy Walters would be better than nothing).

The team currently has no leadership or decent experienced toilers. Pushing out Milford is a step in the right direction but replacing him with Staggs doesn’t fix the leadership issue.

I really don’t mind if we let some of the young guys walk but we need 4 or so external signings of various prices but they need to re-establish a culture. Mann, Opacic, Watson, Hynes, Capewell, Either or both Morris, McGuire, etc
I don’t see Hodgson leaving so I’m gonna suggest Tom starling, whilst not experienced he’s a good hooker and showed that last year when Hodgson was out... they have decided with havili on the bench through versatility so I think we should be look at starling quite seriously

Turner was the Kiwi 6 against the Australian schoolboys in 2019- Walsh, Walker Sexton and Howarth. Played 6 for Dolphins round one.

Two line break assists and two try assists- 4 tackle breaks.

Nice pass for Berry's try on the right.

Apparently he would have to take our last spot in the top 30, as he is not on a development deal at Warriors?

Yeah that’s a bit of a now solution if he does... he’d realise that come next year unless he set the world a light that he’d have to make way for Staggs and or a market player

I think K Hunt and probably the coaching staff would recognise he only has this year in him in NRL as a stop gap. I'd be happy for a now solution just to get some confidence and talk into the squad. Having him next to deardon and barking orders might do the guys well.

I just feel none of the combinations of Milf, Deardon or croft are going to work. Throwing a veteran in there might just be the answer, at least for the reat of the season.

Just another thought, with Milf basically all but gone from next year, what kind of football do we expect him to dish up moving forward? I can't see him been very inspired.

I was hoping for a Kalyn Ponga Cows -v- Bronx 2016 style departure, to be honest. Come on Milf, carve up!

It can be Dearden's team right now if Kevvie wants, let Milf take on the long range kicking and play eyes up footy while Dearden controls things. I think the thing holding us back isn't so much who should partner Tom but the hooker. The 9 is absolutely key to managing the team, he's the first guy to get his hands on the ball every ruck, organising the forwards, engaging markers, bringing players onto the ball, providing service to the halves. Turpin works hard and has his moments but I suspect every halves combo we try will look ordinary behind a beaten pack and with Turpin controlling the show.

Well, Hooper is writing the player swap as a Broncos bungle - Wash was on a development contract, Turner was not so he may have to take our last spot in the thirty.

How would you go about proving it?
I'm not B4L, but it would be fairly obvious if we did/didn't get a player in return. Not sure what other proof would be required.

I know a few Warriors fans and they are absolutely gutted at the thought of them losing Turner. This kid will be an absolute gun and can play both halfback and his preferred fullback. If we land this bloke, well it is possibly sayonara to either Issako or Croft/Tommy boy!

Get him into the top 30 squad and give Issako or Croft/Dearden the flick and we would still have 1 spot left to sign someone like Reynolds. Win/win as far as I'm concerned.

Mmmmm, what about the money? Anyway of knowing? Without knowing the arrangement you cannot say we aren't getting something out of it, can you? Just because you do not physically see a traded player does not rule out other considerations.

So is he NRL ready now?
Do you know if this is confirmed?
