Broncos Roster, Signings and Rumours Discussion 2021

They are terrified by the media blowback which will inevitably be framed as the “club in crisis”, “no one wants to stay”, “Brisbane are now just another club”, “never use to lose players they wanted to keep”etc etc.
They say that any way and then never clear the record once they are proven wrong. They said as much about Piakura leaving on 360, never talked about us resigning him. Same thing with Kent and Hooper claiming we would be down 50 at halftime against the panthers, come sunday and triple M conveniently forgot to talk about that game for 3 hours.

Did any of the shows talk about it for more than a few seconds? I'll be watching 360 tonight to see what happens. Ikin had them beating us by 50.

Not from what I heard, only on Sunday Rap because Parker was on there. Ikin said he couldn't even think what a pass mark for our halfs would be, then they all had a lough and said anything under 50. The media are scumb, full of agendas.

Agree with the notion we place a deadline on extension talks with Staggs.

Its pretty clear his manager is quite happy to have this white nosie centring around another club paying overs for him. If it was my agent, id damn well be on his back to get these type of stories out there...

However, if Kev is to be belived, no approach to Reynolds will be sanctioned until Staggs future is decided?

I think thats a bad move, you can end up missing BOTH.

Id be informing Reynolds agent indirectly via a media release about the time limit set for Staggs whilst still publically lauding what Reynolds could bring to the club.

The other thing is the apparent taps on the shoulder of various player agents about the immediate future of some of our forwards.

We will have stacks of cash come the offseason, but we need more now? That smells to me the fact the Broncs know they are paying large amount of freight to move on some of these guys.

I mentioned the fact there is a sub-market developing in the player market, seems we are the ones intent on developing it..!:xxxx::argh::drool:

One would think it would have to be Felgler, Glenn, possibly Teo and probably Kennar(i know not a regular forward).
Te'o is retiring at the end of the year and I don't believe that's news to anyone. As was reported the Broncos wanted or attempted to get Lodge a new home over the offseason but weren't able to do so. Flegler is young and seen as one to keep as he should improve with maturity. Glenn is a low cost stalwart who won't be playing on, at least with the Broncos.

I don't think Kennar is mentioned as a forward and is pretty inexpensive. My guess is Lodge and Kennedy on the fringe but even he, Kennedy is cheap. Lodge has been playing really well these last couple matches and now he's finally looking like he's fit so he's playing like a man looking to secure a future. I can see him signing down South on the same money as he gets now. He's making it hard to want to move him on but he's looking like a good pickup for any club looking to beef up their frontrow.

FYI here is how Brent Read speculated about moving one of our middles on in his article in the Australia... pure speculation, with nothing substantive to back it up:

Haas - untouchable
Lodge - tried to move him on in the off season, but had his best game of the season against the Panthers

so he narrowed it down to Flegler and TPJ as the vulnerable ones. says TPJ was outstanding vs the Panthers, while Flegler held his own.

goes on to say that TPJ would be the easier one to move, because he only has a year left and has the ability to change the game.

They never do, yet when we get towelled up they have multiple segments on it.

I watched Big League Wrap last night and when it came to the Penrith game they spent most of it talking about Penrith's arrogance and a little portion of it about saying what a great performance that was by us

Penrith weren't doing their cute little choreographed handshake when it took them all of 77 minutes to put us away

WTF :sake: We seriously don't need the coaches son here, this is just messed up!

The Sydney Morning Herald reports a formal announcement could be made within the next 48 hours, with Hastings tipped to join the club next season.

Wigan are reported to be firm on not releasing Hastings before the end of the season at this stage.
His arrival would provide cover off the bench as a utility with Billy Walters reportedly looking at moving to the Broncos at the end of the year alongside father and coach Kevin.

The Warriors would still love Lodge and the Cowboys are probably interested in Flegler with McGuire gone. Kennar could fill a spot at the Knights if they lose Edrick Lee and Hymel Hunt. I’d also throw Carrigan in there, one of these options as a trade for Toby Rudolf.

Mead, Copley, Te’o and Glenn will all probably retire. I’d replace them with Deloise Hoeter, Nicho Hynes, Kurt Capewell. Also have to find room for Cobbo and Piakura.

We are probably going to lose both Milford and Dearden. The ideal replacement is obvious in Adam Reynolds but I’d also look at Aidan Sezer. The loss of Milford should cover Reynolds and Piakuras contract.

Best case scenario, 2022 should look like this
1 Nicho Hynes
2 Xavier Coates
3 Hymel Hunt/Tom Opacic/Deloise Hoeter
4 Herbie Farnworth
5 Jamayne Isaako
6 Kotoni Staggs
7 Adam Reynolds
8 Payne Haas
9 Jake Turpin
10 Toby Rudolf
11 Jordan Riki
12 Tevita Pangai jr
13 John Asiata

14 Brendan Piakura
15 Ethan Bullemore
16 Corey Oates
17 Rhys Kennedy

We get 1 of those players and i'll be happy, this club usually doesn't recruit well off other clubs, when was the last time we had a guy come to this club and become a revelation?

They usually come on all sorts of money and become monumental flops. I am also not convinced about Reynolds being the answer, obviously if he was playing next season that'd be great but moving forward past the contract we will be stuck in the same boat with probably a young halfback who hasn't got a clue out there and will need some time to develop.

I would be very stoked if that was our team. Could be close, but I don’t think we are chasing nicho or rudolf

We definitely need to be chasing a fullback. Either Hynes or Drinkwater. And if we are losing that much of a forward pack they should be looking to replace them. Rudolf would probably be too good to be true, will probably be Dunamis Lui.

Glenn Lazarus, Chris Johns, Justin Hodges, Isreal Folau & Gordon Tallis to name a few.
