I don’t blame Dearden for going or Brisbane for not keeping him. Dearden rightly wanted certainty & the cowboys were willing to offer that. Brisbane were all in on Dearden the last couple of years but he hasn’t shown much, that’s not all on him, but the club is no longer in a position to be patient with him.

If the plan has been for Staggs at 6 it’s hard to believe that Dearden was ever in the picture for 7, there’s just no way anyone could think that would have worked. Which means Brisbane were only ever interested in Tom as a backup or long term project, which would explain their apathy in signing him.

It feels harsh, but I'll be hoping he fails. I never usually think that about Broncos players who leave, and its definitely not because I'm angry at him leaving (I'm more upset at the Broncos). Its because I want at least some kind of evidence that the Broncos recruitment isn't as pathetic as I currently think it is and maybe they WERE actually right for once.
