Broncos Roster, Signings and Rumours Discussion 2021

The thing is, his signing would not be about him. If the fourth year is 400k, even as a solid back up option if he declines markedly is fine when you have an experienced head passing on knowledge and leadership.

The more important point is that he would attract other players. It would send a message the Broncos are back and are serious, it would say we are a destination club again. This is worth the money, even if we have to pay slightly over, we do it if he is serious.

Well at least until he finishes the season with Souths. Then he'll suddenly be labelled as an injury prone washed out has been who has been rejected by Souths and picked up by a down on their luck, desperate Broncos outfit. We are now so close to being portrayed as the latter day Titans where players just come to earn retirement money. A la Bird and Lodge.

Even when Reynolds does make a difference to this team we'll be bagged from pillar to post for making do with old, busted Sydney rejects at over-inflated prices.

All negotiations are the same. If you believe the other party has an upper hand, you're going to get fucked. The Broncos have the upper hand because they hold the money.

Lets's be blunt. The only thing this **** is interested in is money. That's all this is about. Not saving the Broncos. Not restoring the culture. Him being paid more.

Demanding four years when his own club won't give him two is taking the piss. Asking for four years is a starting point for negotiation. But of course, we don't know for a fact whether he did either, nor do we know where this information originated.

you've said some stupid things ... but this is right up there with the stupidest.

for a start he was quite reasonable in his request. he didn't take the reported 800k a year, 3 year offers, say "If you want my signature then I demand that you give me a 4th at the same rate" ... instead what he's done is say "i'd like a 4th year, but to get it i'm prepared to sacrifice 100k a year from the first 3 years of the contract"

EDIT: Insult

only an idiot (so you and Nolan) would think this is a bad decision for the club to make
I don't know though I have my doubts. I've spoken to Pies and he thinks Adam is more suited to fullback.

I disagree that we hold the upper hand in this negotiation.

Reynolds has a skill set and profile we desperately require and he has another option at the Sharks if the Broncos **** him around.

I personally don’t think his request is unreasonable to want an extra year of security to compensate the big change in moving his family.

it’s a risk but one I think worth taking at this stage.

You are right but at the same time, it doesn’t matter how the media portray it, it is how it appears to players and for players who know how good Reynolds is, it would be attractive, especially for Qld players who would no doubt still love the idea of playing for the Broncs if they were competitive which Reynolds would certainly make it. This would be true regardless of how much the media pumps up the Titans, we are still the more successful and more attractive club so long as the off field is getting sorted.

Is this all based on the article you posted by Badel, who makes you foam at the edges of the mouth like a rabid dog?

Seems to me if it's true and you don't believe anything Badel says - then it's subject to a counter offer. And he has to know we're prepared to walk away if his conditions are unreasonable to us.

I don't happen to think Reynolds is the right fit for the club, regardless of him being a fantastic player. And I know Walters would prefer a homegrown talent there in the long term. There's also that when you start talking 4 years.

Reynolds is one of the few 'blues' I have some respect for ... put the money on the table .. iron the creases out of the contract ... change the name on the brown paper bag full of 100s from Milford to Reynolds ... give him a pen (bugger the expense, you can keep the pen Adam) .. job done, on to the next.

a 4 year contract for Reynolds will get quite ugly by the fourth year.....but thats 5 years away...

At least for half of that contract the difference he'd make here is almost immeasurable, plus we keep him out of the hands of direct rivals to us to push up into the 8...

Get him in, worry about about year 4 about 4 years after he joins...

“ $0.2 million – Veteran and Developed Player Allowance for eligible players who were either developed by the Club prior to becoming NRL players and / or have been a Top 30 player for at least 8 years at the Club or have been a Top 30 player for at least 10 years across the game”

I understand this is currently used on Glenn. Who would it shift too if he retires? Would Staggs count as “developed by the club”?

I think Oates would be the only player who has been at the club for 8 years.

Next year Reynolds would qualify as it’s his 10th season in the NRL. So over 4 years that would actually cover the extra 400k he’s apparently asking for that 4th season. In fact you could cover $800k of his wages with it over that 4 year period.

I think as part of Reynolds deal, there would be a couple of 3rd Party deals. Probably 50-75k a year being in Brisbane.

My gut feeling, if he's made 4 years a condition, he's taking the piss. He's essentially saying no, or using our desperation as leverage. Like when tradies give you a ridiculous quote when they don't want the job.

Or maybe he's just trying it on them to see how they react. If he's down for three, try for four. Worth a shot.

That said, if it's on the condition of a medical examination at the end of each season, like is done in other sports, maybe there's scope for negotiation.

The Broncos have to say no to it. If he's serious about moving, he'll play for three. Three is risky enough for a player his age.
We are desperate though. I'm okay with it. Quality halfbacks are rare, we desperately need a halfback and a leader. Fourth year is not unbelievable. He'll be 35 in his final year, on 400k. You pay that much to rookies who are still in reserves.

Either the 4th year works out and he's the kind of half who gets better with age, or it doesn't and we're down 400k in 2025, no big deal. It gives us a time to find and groom his replacement.

And like I said, there's a million ways to get a 400k contract off the books, all it does for Reynolds is guarantees we look after him for that extra year instead of relying on an unwritten promise.

If I was reynolds I'd be asking for a 4th year too when I can get the same money and same years from a club down the road. There has to be an incentive to move your family across the country.
