Broncos Roster, Signings and Rumours Discussion 2021

Do we really need Sua? Sure he is good however not sure why we seem to be chasing him so hard and I can't see him coming cheap. Give me Capewell over Sua.
Also, I wasn't all that keen on going for Hodgson however, with Reynolds at 7, Hodgson & Turps could work well in the 9 role. I'd prob start with Hodgson and bring Turps on when their middles start to get tired.
I hope we extend Gamble on a cheap contract. He has proven to be more suited to this side then Croft & Dearden. In fact, I wouldn't be against pairing him in the halves with Reynolds.
I hope we start to experiment with this side later this year, for next - once we are out of wooden spoon contention. Give Herbs a shot at FB, Isaako on the wing. Give Staggs his shot at 6 etc.
If the talk is to be believed it is less about us chasing him hard and more that he wants to come home. If that is the case and we are smart negotiators (Early evidence on DD suggests that he is) then it won't be a big contract. An origin forward who is still young and one of our juniors on a reasonable contract? Yes please.

I know I have less credibility than Badel, but I’ve heard a couple of “rumours” one being Lodge to Penrith next week to free up cap space for Gagai..... make what you will of that and the other “rumours” include:

The inside word is Sua is locked in. Milford to the titans. Billy Walters is 4 weeks away from coming to the broncs. They won’t get capewell. Panthers won’t let him go apparently.
I can live with lodge leaving next year but with Carrigan out he is huge for us this year

I saw a headline about Dogs wanting Gsmble but it was pay walled.

If i was a half, i'd stay right away from Canterbury.

just look what's happened to Flanagan. they bought him to eventually partner Burton in the halves. have given him 9 rounds, in a poor system with a new coach and new combinations and are now looking to replace him.

also, in his case, i wouldn't head to the Storm. he's got a better chance of forcing his way into the halves here than at the Storm (as there is no guarantee that Staggs works at 6)

Where's Taylor going....?
Don't know where he's going but it's been reported the Titans are looking past him.

The Titans see Milford as an option to replace Ash Taylor — another player that’s struggled under the pressure of a lucrative contract.

According to Seven, Taylor is willing to take a pay-cut to remain at the Titans but the club has indicated to him that they will look elsewhere.

Surely that's a sideways step from the Titans. You are going from overpaid playmaker to another.

Milf offers a more attacking option than Taylor until Sexton comes onto the scene.

I dont think Milf will get too many offers over $500k so it will come down to where he thinks he'll have the best opportunity to reignite his career. I'd say it would probably be 50/50 between here or GC.

I think he and Reynolds compliment each other well, but we're still rebuilding so there's some uncertainty around what the rest of the spine will look like.

At GC he'd have Brimson in the spine, but a poor man's Reynolds at 7 and no idea who will be at 9 long term.

If someone does offer him $500k or more then he'll probably jump at that. I dont think GC or Broncos will go that high though

We better not go that high but Donuts makes me confident we won't.

Imagine we sign Milford for 250k (which is all I think he's worth frankly), we'd essentially have taken Milford's wage and squeezed Reynold's in for free. It's absolutely crazy how far off MIlford has fallen, he's went from one of the hottest signings in the NRL to fighting for his NRL life.

I dont think we will... Kevvie keeps putting it back on Milf to show that he wants to be here and earn himself a contract.

I think $400k for 2yr is probably what they'd be thinking for Milf, but he wants to see him earning that before offering it.

If he doesnt play well enough this year to earn that then I dont think they would bother offering him anything

i think Su'a has more upside for us then capewell, he is a young origin forward who has played with Reynolds for the last 3 years and would be cheaper then Kurt

Gamble could go either way, he might be appreciative of Brisbane giving him a crack from ISC and the years he plugged away there- I mean let's not forget wasn't that long ago he was playing BRL for the Dolphins and couldn't make their ISC side.

He's tried Sydney and got an early release to come home from the Tigers, so his attitude may be I have tried that.

But ISC players love the Storm and they get good results. They like their players to have played ISC or keep playing it. 10 players last week had played 38 or more ISC games in their team. But if you're just going to be back here playing for the Falcons every Friday I may as well play for Norths and get three games a year for Brisbane.

These games he's getting now may keep him here, if he didn't get those I would suspect he'd leave for another crack.

We are going to lose a lot more players this year if we plan on fitting in a fullback, Gagai, Reynolds and a second rower.

I’d say we lose players like Alex Glenn, Richie Kenner, Ben Te’o, Anthony Milford, Keenan Palasia, Dale Copley, John Asiata, David Mead, Danny Levi and possibly Brodie Croft but to fit the new guys in our 17 we would also have to lose one of Lodge or Flegler, possibly Tesi Niu, and Isaako too.

We could legitimately be running out in 2022 with this as our 17!

1 Nicho Hynes
2 Corey Oates
3 Herbie Farnworth
4 Dane Gagai
5 Brenko Lee (not sure how he fits)
6 Kotoni Staggs
7 Adam Reynolds
8 Payne Haas
9 Jake Turpin
10 Matt Lodge
11 Kurt Capewell
12 Tevita Pangai Jr
13 Patrick Carrigan

14 Tyson Gamble
15 Ethan Bullemore
16 Jordan Riki
17 Brendan Piakura

Rewind to 2016 / 17 and how appealing a halves pairing of Milford & Ash Taylor would’ve been for just about any club..

Now, you’d probably be able to get BOTH for a $700,000 outlay ..

Is it possible this whole Covid thing is making players want to return home? Or are there rumours among the game that someone like Bennett is returning? It’s just odd going from having absolutely no prospective signings to half the QLD squad wanting to return to Brisbane within a few weeks. Has me very curious about what’s actually going down

He might as well stick around here for a year & then try and get signed by phins when they come into the comp a year later.
