I could be wrong, but don’t all teams have to have 95% of the 2021 cap spent by EOFY 2021?

So in effect, we can’t have a war chest sitting there ready to spend, unless we get lucky and someone incredible becomes available before July ‘21 and takes up most of said war chest?
Front loading.

but like another poster said, player who are available in 2022 are free to speak to other clubs as of the start of this month. If we are waiting for 22 to sign big names we should be doing it now.

we've always been able to afford him ...
do we want him though (and by we, i mean Kevvie, not BHQ)
If kevie didn’t know, us BHQ’s know what’s best, he should probably just do what we say and that’ll be the end of it.

Sorted. “He say’s while he sips on an early arvo beer”

The difference is that Drinkwater can also play 5/8 and is pretty handy. He's worth more than 350k.

Allan on the wing is rubbish. At FB there are still question marks about his output when not in a quality spine.

If both were the same price I would be taking the punt on Drinkwater. There has to be a reason he was storm's 1st choice FB in pre-season last year.

Isn't there question marks about every spine player when not in a quality spine unless they are Lockyer, Smith, Cronk or Thurston?

there is nothing to say we aren't speaking to potential 2022 recruits right now.

The thing is, if you bring in say Capewell, Allan and Lui now, you aren't buying superstars. You are buying guys who can make an immediate impact and STILL have the dosh to go after Gran...I mean stars for 2022 when you are finally rid of inflated deadwood like Milford, Bird (stupidest thing ever to pay him to play elsewhere on a player option) and others.

There is. We haven't heard a peep out of the Broncos and if they were talking to someone/s, Morri...I mean someone would have already reported it to the media.

I would rather a specialist than a jack of all trades.

I'm not on board with the Allan train, but I'm not against it either. If i'm completely honest it's a bit of a panic buy driven by the fact he was a bronco. I think everyone would just like to see some sort of excitement coming from the back.

I don't really care who started for Melbourne in pre-season, they were happy to be rid of him because they felt they had better options. Brodie Croft comes to mind.

Not really. There are plenty of proven quality spine players out there.

My point is that the Rabbits have one of the best and most experienced spines in the comp. We don't. It would be foolish to think Allan would come into our spine and look like the same player he was at the back end of the season for them. Hence the question marks.

By the same token there are questions about Drinkwater (hence why he's not walking into the cows side) but I don't see how Allan is a far superior option. They are very comparable.

And that is why neither of them should be on huge money, there is no argument there but Allan is reportedly currently gettable, that's a big thing! Also, he's an old boy, another big thing! He has more potential than Drinkwater and just played really well in a massive game, another big thing lacking in our current side. Plus, spine players and their effectiveness is very much affected by their forwards, something our side massively struggled with last year due to injuries and a dunce of a coach. Two things that will hopefully be better next year.

Of course they had better options, they have a better squad and guys like Munster and Hughes were alternatives.

It turned out Papy was decent too. It should say something that for a period of time Bellamy viewed Drink as the best option, he only missed out on the gig due to injury and the other bloke given a shot took it.

Croft was great until they dumped him for Hughes too.

My point is that what they do in Melbourne shouldn't be the primary driving factor - we have already seen the results of this approach.

It doesn't if you ignore the rest of the sentence, I agree.

not really, some people have the ability to learn from their mistakes.

or just maybe, the media are getting more clicks by pretending we're not even looking for potential recruits and it is doomsday for the club ... hell, maybe the spent 10 seconds on here and thought, "this narrative could work for us"

Well one minute we are complaining about the club being a leaky sieve, the next minute we are complaining that we are not hearing anything.........can we make up our minds please.

I'm not complaining about not hearing anything, I am saying that recent evidence suggests we are hearing nothing because nothing is happening.

If we are hearing nothing because the board has learned from past mistakes as @Foordy said above, I would be over the moon!

I think people are complaint because no news is coming from the leaky sieve, which if you follow the logic, would suggest nothing is being done.
