No one is trying to argue that he is top tier or better than boyd (at his best), but he is not asking for top tier money either (which boyd at his lowest was on), is a better option than our existing options and would provide a better balance and transition plan to our spine.

He also would be a good contingency plan if staggs does not show himself to be a capable 6.

If we were to go into next year with a spine of isaako, staggs, reynolds and turpin, our centres and wing will rarely see any decent ball and we will find ourselves at the bottom of the table again.

Hynes is a 6, but he's not going to look nearly as good as he does at the moment at a team without the Storm structure and system. At the right price I'd take him, but anything more than 400k is too much for what he brings.

Flegler wasn't horrible, but I don't think he was good either. Next year is make it or break it for him IMO, he'll be 22/23, he needs to live up to the hype and faith the Broncos put into him.
Flegler will be a top level player in my view. Problem is he has been promoted too early and is on too much money for where he is at. He will get there. While we cant make the 8 I think we keep picking him for the experience

Recent report is he wants 1 million over 3 years which seems a good deal. I would try to get dufty too. Maybe a swap for Oates

I think he’s a better playmaker than Boyd. Boyd probably the better defensive option.

For sure.

I think Hynes is really a 5/8, and getting someone like Dufty to play fullback, keeping Staggs/Farnworth as our centres, now that's a quality backline.

If we could get Dufty for like 400k x 2 years seeing as he's unwanted and there isn't many fullback options elsewhere, it would be a great deal.

Dufty is a pancake in defence, he’s worse than isaako.

1. Dufty
2. Mead (he should be given another year)
3. Farnworth
4. Staggs
5. Isaako
6. Hynes
7. Reynolds

Now that's a team I think wins more than it loses. We'd have genuine strike, ball players and game management.

Elite in attack though. I don't care too much about fullback defense, it's a last ditch anyway. It's basically that, or we run with Isaako for another year, which wouldn't be the worst thing in the world but he ain't a fullback.

Unless Cobbo matches the hype and is ready to play fullback next year.

Yeh i could get excited about that line up. Dufty might be a speed bump in defence, but he makes up for it in attack. What would be my concern is is he able to organise the defence from back there? That is such an important aspect of the modern day FB.

No idea but the Dragons had awesome defence a few times this year while he's been playing at the back. Either way, wouldn't be worse than Isaako who is often out of position completely in defence. I can't imagine a natural fullback would be worse at organising and positioning than Isaako.

Now if Staggs comes back soon and plays 6 or 1, and absolutely kills it, then Dufty becomes unnecessary.

I'd rather move Isaako on if we get Hynes. Isaako's defense at wing was very poor before moving to fb.

The more I see of Hynes the more I'm convinced he's a 6, and a good one at that. Him at 6, Staggs/Farnworth at 1 is what I'd be looking at. I think Staggs will be much more useful at 1 just because of his elite running game. Isaako is not a fullback, and he should be hooked from kicking off duties.
I was thinking the same but then it dawned on me that we can play Hynes at 1 and Staggs at 6 in defence, but during attack Hynes just plays 6 (ie. second receiver) and Staggs plays out the back as the fullback.

I think if we played Hynes in the same role as Souths play Walker we would get the best out of him. It would allow him to pop up on both sides of the field with Staggs outside him on the sweep.

What we cant do is play split halves. If we get Hynes and he's partnered with Reynolds and Staggs then he is the only ball player between the 3... playing split halves would mean he is either restricted to one side of the field (if playing 6) or dependent on ball from Reynolds or Staggs (if playing 1).

If he plays a similar role to Walker then he's the free man to roam and the guy that picks out the play (short ball to a forward, kick in behind, cut out ball or out the back sweep to Staggs).

I think he's shown in his stint with storm that his playmaking is quite good (passing long or short, and kicking) and this would allow Staggs to be a running player out the back which plays to his strength.

I think the biggest question mark on the whole Reynolds + Staggs partnership is whoever moves to the left.

Reynolds has played right his whole career and I would want to keep him there.... he'll be the primary kicker so it's best for him to be comfortable.

Unfortunately that would mean Staggs on the left, which may impact on his running game as it nullifies the big left arm fend.

You make some great points. However, deep down I think Kevvie will give Staggs a run at 6 (as really we have nothing brilliant in the halves this year) and if he is an absolute standout then he'll keep him there and slot Hynes into the FB (provided we have him) Isaako will then be asked to play centre or wing or he indeed may be off to the tigers. If Staggs proves to be a flop then he'll move Hynes straight in there and either play Isaako at FB until such times as we either find a better option or Cobbo is deemed ready for 1st grade. In short, I think Kevvie is not sold on Staggs at 6 but will give him a chance to prove himself this year. As he keeps saying if Milf was to find his 2015 form he'd keep him there. But sadly we all know there's more chance of me coping off Miranda Kerr than Milf wearing the 6 next year.
