I can't recall Coates catching a single attacking bomb since his debut. Currently I'm not sure what else he offers. His defence reads are questionable, his footwork seems non existent and for his size he gets folded plenty on his kick returns. Although his returns have gotten better. He is fast, but we are not good enough to utilise his speed.

I get that he is young, still growing into his body and I'm sure one day he will be a fantastic player. But currently, he is not. I was not upset to lose him to Melbourne. In fact, to have paid him nearly a half mill would have been another retention error from us. Similar to the ones which have handicapped us over the last few years.

Not sure if I would be going for Hynes if it leaves us unable to make a reasonable offer for Smith.

As much as Smith is good we need a fullback more then any other position atm, and Smith wouldn't come cheap.

More like you would need to trade our best player because Melbourne’s like for like replacement isn’t exactly like for like for everyone else

As much as Smith is good we need a fullback more then any other position atm, and Smith wouldn't come cheap.

Maybe we could persist with Isaako for another year whilst giving Cobbo some experience on the wing with a view to moving him to fullback in 2024 if he's up to it. Then we could utilise Smith as a solid option at 9 until we bring through a young hooker. Few guys were talking about a good young hooker on here the other day. Can't remember his name.

We can do that with Hynes, he is a natural 6 who can slot into 6 if Cobbo can establish himself, Isaako just isn't a fullback often lost on defensive positioning and his support play is significantly less then any decent fullback in the competition(the one area where Hynes is probably the best at, and statistically he supports more then any other player per game).

Smith still has another year to go so signing him now will require a swap and knowing Storm it wouldn't be in our favour.

With Oates likely not getting an extension and will be moved on you can have Isaako, Mead and Cobbo battle out for the wing spots or place Isaako in centre if Staggs at 6 works.

I like Mead and I love the effort he puts in for the team, but he's an out and out winger and should not be pushed into the centres at all costs.

I'm still pissed the ref called play back last night for an obstruction right after Meady took that intercept. If the ref had let play go we were 6 points in front and it could have been a different ball game all together. I think Oates best reassess his idea of not wanting to play second row coz at the moment it's the only chance he has of getting back into the team.

Mead has easily been our best winger this year, very good on the defensive jams too when we are spread light on the edges, agree that he shouldn't be moved from wing though it's his spot.

Despite his age he is playing significantly better then he did on his last stint with us, kinda like the Morris boys he has found a little purple patch at the end of his career.
