Broncos Roster, Signings and Rumours Discussion 2021

Overs. If that’s his asking price now, and maybe rightfully so, then I think we’ve already missed the boat.

I think the deal should’ve been done 8 rounds ago, you could’ve got him for 300. Imo I wouldnt go anything over 400 and even then I’d prefer a 2 year deal. 3 years on $350k would be a fair result.

it's all well and good to say a deal should have been done 8 rounds ago. however, at that stage it sounds like he may not have even made a decision to leave the Storm. Then as soon as Paps got injured and he was guaranteed an extended run in the starting side, even the dumbest player agent on the planet would have advised him to hold of signing any deal as there was only one way his value was going to go.

we likely would have expressed our interest in him much earlier than the last couple of weeks

Did he meet with us or not? Anyone confirm that post that he was spotted at HQ a week or so ago?

What aren’t you sold on he has performed with some pretty average players in the spine with him it’s not like he’s been carried the whole way through.... He’s been the one carrying! If your not sold now your never going to be
I’m not criticising him, he’s had a great season, my concern is he is playing in a very different system to Brisbane.

Yeah but it’s cause Croft was no good... They didn’t want Croft they want Hynes he has accomplished 30 x more than Croft ever did with the Storm. No point signing players from other teams due to risk if we are looking at it from your perspective, we have to take a few risks to get back to the top and this is a very good and in my opinion safe risk

No, it’s because he’s coming from a system in Melbourne where everyone is very well drilled & knows their role, to a shitshow in Brisbane where everyone ostensibly does their own thing.

I have always said we should sign him, particularly for his utility value when Staggs shits the bed at 5/8, but imo he’s not going to be the marquee signing that comes in and repeats what he’s doing in Melbourne. That doesn’t mean he will be shit, I think he will be a solid serviceable playmaker, which we need, but we should pay accordingly.

And we are he’s playing like a 600-700k player right now and he’s getting 300-400

Melbourne WANT to keep him, so he's good.

if Fatty was correct (and i doubt he knows anything) and we offered Hynes a 500-600k a year 3 year contract, would you consider that Overs, Unders or just right?
If the Broncos had put forward an offer of $500,000<, I dare say the Hynes camp would’ve been like..

Flegler will be a top level player in my view. Problem is he has been promoted too early and is on too much money for where he is at. He will get there. While we cant make the 8 I think we keep picking him for the experience
I can't see flegler being top tier because he looks lazy on the field. Not hungry enough.
I hope I'm wrong, but I get the feeling he likes to get the ball when in the attacking 20, but doesn't work hard in D to earn it.

Every single team Hynes could go to:
Broncos: Fullback guaranteed and future 6 when Cobbo is ready
Storm: Just isn’t feasible for him to stay there and further his career if he is to play in the spine
Dragons: Short term would work 6 and 1 but they got so many youngsters, good ones at that in those positions coming through he’d be forced out in a year or so
Cowboys: can’t meet his spine requirements
Sharks: can offer 6 spot but really they are going down the shitter so I reckon he won’t go there
Manly: can’t offer 6 spot and definitely not 1 so can’t see that happening
Warriors: Could possibly move Walsh to 6 for him to play 1 or him playing 6 straight up but can’t see him moving or anyone really that isn’t desperate to play first grade footy going to the warriors during COVID
Raiders: Could possibly play 7 at Raiders but they are quickly turning to shit and on top of that Canberra is a shit hole so unlikely also 7 isn’t one of his preferred positions
Bulldogs: Just who would do that to themselves unless yet again they were desperate or being well over paid
The rest: Just can’t offer him a spot or are unlikely to go out of their way to offer him a spot

as a result I only see us and dragons as suitors and personally I believe our team gives longer term security as well as likely being the better team next year so I think he will find his way to us. In saying that money does speak so if another club was to go over the top he might go there. Doesn’t seem like a chase the money player though I think that’s not important in his life. As well as that one last thing to think about is living in Sydney, Melbourne and Auckland would cost a fortune

Yea that very well could have been the case. Like I said in a fairly recent post. The club has apparently tabled a fair offer, regardless of what happens, there’s not much more you could reasonably expect them to do.

Time will tell I guess

I have a sneaking suspicion (and this will somehow make its way into the media of course) that the Sharks might go hard for Hynes. They are desperate to show that they haven't monumentally screwed up with getting Raw Bones in to coach and murdering Morris. Hynes isn't what they need but he is a big, sought after name.

I hope they do

furthermore i hope they offer him more than us.

because it would be funny as shit to beat them out twice in a couple of months, both times by offering less $$$$.

if they do happen to get him, then they've paid overs and hurt their cap position.
