Imagine a spine of Hodgo, Arey, SJ (Niko if we can’t get SJ), CNK (assuming the raiders want Dufty). Seems achievable for next season with Grant being the guy we throw 1.25 mil+ at when he’s off contract.

I would be offering Croft, Flegler, Kennar and Turpin the same option while not re-signing Copley, Glenn, Levi, Milford and Te'o. Get rid of anyone who wants out or sucks. I am not sure I believe our cap is that fucked, as we would have to be over the cap during the last few years. Strip our wooden spoon NRL.

Based on the events of the last 24hrs I would say the below players appear to be on the chopping block

Off contract and likely released anyway: Milf, Asiata, Coates, Kennar, Copley, Levi
Retirement: Glenn, Te'o
Looking to offload: Lodge, TPJ, Oates, Croft, Isaako

50/50: Fanitesi Niu, Jesse Arthars, Keenan Palasia

So of the top 30 or so players I'd say they are looking to get rid of 13 - 16 of them... and of them Milf, TPJ, Lodge, Oates and Croft are likely amongst the top earners if not the top of the salary cap outside of Haas.

I don’t think we will need to pay much of TPJs contract. I think a big reason he’s being moved in is because we don’t need to pay much / anything for him to go, where as with lodge and Flegler we need to pay a lot.

I would try to loan Flegler out to another club for someone in return. If Melbourne lose Finucane, would he capable of filling that hole in a swap for B.Smith? Bellamy would get the errors out of his game at least.

Or to Canberra for Hodgson? We would kill two birds with one stone, in that we may not have to pick up Hodgson's contract either. Don't know how they are for forwards though.

I'm a big Flegler fan, and I think he will become a very good player in time. However, we can't keep all of our young forwards together, that's a part of how we got here. So we may as well try something like that.

The problem is finding suitable replacements for those positions, quality players aren't all going to come available at once.

How many of those players are even above average first graders based on the last two years... I'd say only Lodge and TPJ.

Biggest issue is how much money we pay lodge and TPJ to move on. If we can do it from this year's cap that is the best possible outcome. Talk is we will pay half Lodge's salary to move him on about 1-1.2 in total. If we could wear a lot of this in this years cap it will help immensely

I doubt we pay a cent for TPJ... he's reportedly on $650k... I'd say that's unders for the attacking game that he brings.

There'd be a few desperate clubs ready to pay that... If TPJ holds tries to force a move to roosters or someone whilst we foot some of the bill, you just tell his manager to **** off and try again.

You’d also get more years with Kodi, makes transitioning to new halves a bit easier than having SJ and Reynolds retire around the same time.

I imagine a strong forward pack including Haas, TPJ and Lodge was used as a selling point for a bloke like Reynolds. Now we are gonna be going out with a Flegler/Haas/Carrigan starting middle. This will only work if we sign both Su'a and Capewell to cover our now weaker edges.

The gap between haas and then our next best forward in TPJ is fairly large, but the gap between tpj and then lodge is gigantic. Lodge can be okay in attack, but his okay the balls are slow and he is pathetic in defence, as are most of our forwards. I really wish people would stop saying we have a good pack.

Our forwards are in general, very lazy in defence. Many go into tackles really softly and are brushed off. They also stop and start walking when the ball passes them. If our middle forwards were more dependable maybe our hookers would not have to be tackle bots and could expel some energy in attack.

I watched the cronulla game and kept an eye on tolman. He is not particularly talented or upper tier but he did not stop and really kept the middle of the field secure. A good solid player that did what his team needed of him. Those are the type of players you place around the 'stars and game winners'.

I'd be all for getting Kodi. He wants to be in Brisbane, we can get one back on the stupid Bird PO deal by making the Warriors pay part of his deal AND he can play any of the spine positions or 14. In any case, he'd be comparatively cheap.
