Does anyone think Kurt Mann could make a good halves partner for Adam Reynolds? He's off contract, experienced and a Queenslander. He seems like a hard worker. He has shown he can play anywhere in the spine if need be. Can also fill in at centre.

I think Mann is pretty limited as a ball player.

Knights fans are well off him because he stifles their attack whenever he's included in the spine.

I think he could reinvent himself as a left sided centre or that Connor Watson style utility off the bench. However because he hasn't done either of those things I dont think I would want to take a punt on him at the sort of salary he'd want (I'd assume he'd be after $400k or more).

It would be a bit like when we bought Bird... we needed a half but we ended up with Bird and no one really had any idea where his best position was for the price tag.

Mann would come much cheaper, but $400k or more for a center is above average (he's yet to prove himself there though) and it's way too high for a bench utility... unless you know he can really bring something for 50mins a game.

At $300k I might be interested as a left center, but we've now picked up Brenko... we dont really have the room to take a punt on players without knowing exactly what they'll bring to the intended role.

We need known commodities at correct value, or slight overs if absolutely necessary... cant afford to have guys chopping and changing next year because we thought they might be able to fill a role

Yes, I'd only take him if he came cheap. Not saying he would set the world on fire but could help steady the ship at least. I agree he's not a necessity seeing as we just re-signed Gamble and have signed Brenko Lee.

Bulldogs seem to be picking talented players with less of an overall game plan or concern about attitude. We seem to be picking based on players fitting into the new attitude we want from our team. Will be interesting to see what works, but I definetly think we will get a much better outcome. If fantasy league worked, we would have been top 4 based on natural talent the last few years, attitude is 90% of footy
Burton could be anything....

Problem is, it seems Bulldogs are becoming a club where careers die a slow death...

Big drop off from Penrith to them...

I feel like Trent Barrett is similar to Nathan Brown. They do a great job at building a roster but then can struggle to pull it all together and get the team performing where they should be. They usually leave the roster in a good position for the next coach.

Burton does look very good, but the Panthers struggled when Cleary and Luai were out... that could be the sort of reality that Burton is walking into.

Although in that Panthers game Ivan seemed reluctant to give Burton the keys to the team and instead gave them to May... who looks absolute trash.

Barrett won't do that, he will put absolutely everything in Burton's hands, because he has to.

Barrett is looking more and more like one of those blokes who are destined to be a good assistant coach.

In terms of Mann, in isolation he would be a great pick up but in consideration of other factors, he wouldn't come cheap enough to warrant it when we already will have Gamble and Walters who can basically do the same Mr. Fixit role that Mann would do.

In terms of our future spine, we have all 4 positions already at the club potentially (dangerous word) but the issue is to stop them being poached and/or ALL of them developing to become elite.

Mann is one of those guys who could do a job but not do it well enough to make a difference

Could say the same for Capewell, but we all know that the fact that he will do his job is what will make a difference.

But.. I agree with the consensus that Gamble fills the same sort of hole in the roster.

If Gamble works hard on a few areas of his game( defence and fitness mainly) he will be exactly what we need. His attitude and will to win is exactly what we need. He is already a good ball player and working with a bloke like Reynolds can only bring good things. I really hope he grabs this opportunity and shakes the shit out of it.

I think he has what it takes too. He came through with players like Ash Taylor and Anthony Milford who got all the glory early on and have since flopped. Makes sense that Gamble gets his time in the sun now and I think all these years he's had his head stuck down and been working on his game will pay off.

The only problem is that we have a coach that changes the line up every week. I hope we have players cemented in positions to start the season next year. Not like this year where we didn't know who our halves combination would be etc.. (We are yet to settle on that for this year still..)
