You obviously don’t know much about coaching, mate. What you do is train all off season with a halves combination and then change it 120 minutes into the season. Then what you do is change it another 8 times in 16 games.
I'd take it you'd use this same process with a fullback aswell? You take your best fullback in the trials and not put him in the top 30 just to keep him fresh for another team

absolutely the right call despite his skills ... because that entitled attitude he showed is exactly the attitude we need to purge from this club

None of that changes the fact he is a risk and an expensive one at that. We need a 9 more than anything, not ANOTHER punt on a half at another club who might be good if he just doesn't have to do all the organising...remind you of anyone currently at the club?

It does, but if the deal was right for us i think its worth it. Sometimes a change can do these players the world of good.

Does noone remember that we had a choice between Croft (400k) and Jamal Fogarty (bottom dollar) and we seemingly chose Croft because he was the more popular name.. Not because he had shown he's better than Fogarty at playing rugby league.

I suggested Fogarty here many times and was ridiculed for it.

Now isn't he the Titans 7 and captain?

The right option isn't always the most popular player available. Kelly and Gamble definitely are good enough to partner Reynolds in the halves. We shouldn't really be too concerned about our 6 for next year. I'm more concerned about who our fullback will be.

(Brooks is Croft)

Croft was chosen because he at least had shown some good things in the NRL at the time and Fogarty was very unknown.

You would probably still get ridiculed for suggesting Fogarty. I'm not really sure how him being the Titans 7 and captain shows you were right about him. Titans have been struggling since Round 5 and their halves are part of the problem.

Lol, you certainly proved me wrong with that list, hahaha. That's horrific.

I disagree in regards to the Croft & Brooks comparison, Croft showed glimpses of promise at the Storm, but realistically, you'd struggle to find more than 3 or 4 high quality games that he's put together in his entire career. Brooks on the other hand has very good games quite regularly, and has proven over several month long stretches that he can be a great half.

The way he ended the 2019 season is a prime example of what he can do, over the final 7 weeks of the 2019 season he accumulated 2 tries, 2 linebreaks, 11 try assists, 8 linebreak assists & 5 forced dropouts. Since then, he's been moved around positionally, had games off the bench, had a rotating group of players inside and outside him, several different halves partners, coaching turmoil, etc.

I don't see it as taking somebody else's discard and trying to get value out of it, I see it as an opportunity to buy someone for a cut-cost price, who has shown as recently as 18 months ago that he can be a one of the most damaging halves in the game when in the right situation. Are the 2022 Broncos the right situation to get the best out of him? Perhaps, perhaps not. For the right price, I'd certainly be willing to find out.
With Croft it was the same line of thinking. Brisbane were desperate for a halfback so they went with the best free agent available in the hopes that they could fix him.

It's not a 1:1 comparison obviously. Both players are/were at different points in their career. With a player like Brooks it just comes down to whether you're satisfied with what he's shown. Obviously you're a fan of his work but I can understand the hesitancy from others. In this big moments when he's called to step up he can be very indecisive.

I don't think it's wise for the Broncos to go bargain hunting for halves. Teams should put a value on that position and sign somebody who you think is worth that amount of money. When teams start compromising on those key positions that's when they run into trouble, especially when they're struggling to develop talent.

If the Broncos were in this position back in 2016 I'd certainly be interested in offering him a Benji Marshall type of deal.

Yeah agreed.. would of had him in the 30 though but made him bang the door down in ISC til he was screaming to be picked.

Milford to Parramatta.
Gagai to Broncos, somehow this is dependant on the Milford deal.
Pangai to Bulldogs
Clubs chasing Oates
Paix to play against Panthers

Just shows that Oates is quality comes back for 2 games and clubs already chasing him

Walker is overrated as ****. I hope Roosters get burned by overpaying for these overhyped underdelivering idiots.

Gamble/Kelly/Staggs + Reynolds = Halves problem solved.

Solve the 9/14/1 and left edge defense. You got a team.

then you still would have lost him anyway, before he had a chance to bang the door down.

Probably would have.. who knows.. but atleast if he was in the top 30 he could of been picked in the early rounds and might of stuck it out. Could of played him round 1 and still signed elsewhere.

I'm quietly hoping Paix might solve that 9 problem in the short term until Dossier is ready, I really like what I've seen from him this year.

we had at least 2 spots open in the top 30 ... he could have very easily been promoted into it if his form warranted it ... he wasn't prepared to try and beat Isaako for the role and it's not like he would be stuck behind a Turbo or a Teddy.

it is doubtful it would have taken him more than a couple of weeks to beat Isaako for the position and if he had waited, who knows he could have easily convinced us to up the offer from 250k to over 500k.

his attitude was an entitled one the he should be guaranteed a starting spot. poor attitude and certainly not the type of attitude a rebuilding club needs

Yeah I agree with you his position needed to be earned not just given to him.
He would become alot better player if he fought for his spot and fixed his flaws in his game trying to beat Issako for the spot which wouldn't of been hard after a couple rounds.
But yeah its not the attitude you want which I think alot of our players have at the moment they never had to earn their jersey it was given to them.
