Doesn't confirm it at all. Unless Kevvie was lying to everyone earlier when he said changes would happen.

Absolute worst case scenario, we have what ever money Bird leaving has freed up.

Best case scenario, we have a couple of signings that have yet to be announced
So he’s lying now?

More likely he said those things before he realised the reality of the situation.

Why is that the worst case scenario? We very easily may have already over spent which is why Bird was forced out, or his money has gone on upgrading players.

Can’t drug test him for 4 months [emoji848]
Offer him coaching position on big money because he retired, then suddenly an urge to play at minimum wage round 1.

Asiata and Copley are actually already signed from some reports. Has been kept very quiet, maybe there are more. We do have 7 spots available and we have recently/lost literally MILLIONS of dollars worth of players in the past year.

Yeah despite my doom and gloom I do believe that a few signings have been made but just haven’t been announced, and if this is the case I actually much prefer how quiet and in house it’s been kept for once. Probably waiting for Staggs and Dearden to re-sign before openly talking about how much cap space there is.

The scouts maybe watching all the games on Fox, but the media drives a player's value and there is obviously more eyeballs on a Thursday and Friday game than any other night on the week. As soon as a Broncos player has one decent showing, instantly there's headlines about three or four clubs chasing after them.

It's just the nature of the coverage of being a one team town and getting prime television spots. Even in the NFL they always make a big deal about teams performing well at prime time.

Just read a quote from Kevie that Brisbane can't afford to sign anyone else. I don't buy it, but where is the money going?

Anthony Milford - 1,000,000
Jack Bird - 975,000 (St. George are paying a sum of that)
Tevita Pangai Jr - 650,000
Matt Lodge - 650,000
Andrew McCullough - 600,000
Corey Oates - 550,000
Joe Ofahengaue - 500,000
Brodie Croft - 450,000
Payne Haas - 450,000
Kotoni Staggs - 400,000

That's what 6, 250, 000 of our cap not taking into account whatever amount the Dragons are paying on the Bird transfer.

2021 Salary Cap was supposed to be 9.9 Million so that leaves 3 275 000 between 21 players which is an average of 155,000. That will be higher with Bird's departure but that's not a lot of wriggle room, especially if Flegler is supposedly on 600,000 (they have to be taking the piss, right?)

A) we were prepared to let Bird play (in fact were planning for him to stay), so clearly his wage wasn't pushing us over the cap

B) he made those statements bot before and AFTER he met with the recruitment team, so he would have had a very good idea of our cap situation

C) maybe he doesn't want Chambers, or is trying to get him cheap, so he pushes the claim about having no cap space

let's look at this logically (yes i know, BHQ hates doing that)

we've lost Boyd, Bird, Fifita, Kahu, Luke, Hopoate and O'Sullivan.

both Bird and Boyd had a year to go on their contracts and we offered Fifita 750k a season. of we had no money that right there would put us $2.1 million over the 2021 salary cap.

subtract the 400k Kahu is reportedly on, (the minimum wage contracts for SOS, Luke and Hopoate, can't be subtracted because they need to be replaced in our top 30 buy players on the same wage) and it takes us down to a $1.7 million salary cap breech for 2021 ... even if we had the smartest businessmen ever on our board, we're not a club that can get away with that.

not to mention the Asiata rumours

I question how much of Birds contract we are still paying. I also suspect that a big part of Fifita’s offer was to come from Macca’s contact which fucked us by returning. Yes, this would be extremely idiotic.

Also we re-signed Niu and Farnworth post-Fifita and will need to upgrade a few players.

Very easily could have used up any spare cash.

How do you know we were planning on having Bird stay? The club apparently was desperately trying to move on TPJ, Bird, and Offa.

No. I'm sorry I just don't believe this forum is a source of ideas. Journalists just speculate like the rest of us.
Mate where there’s smoke there’s fire. Basel definitely gets an amount of his “scoops” from bhq.

They had the perfect opportunity to move tpj on after his covid breaches but chose to stick with him.

because he said it several times.

I haven't heard or seen anything to suggest the club was trying to move on TPJ, desperately or otherwise (if they were, they just would have sacked him due to his COVID breeches)

Unless he had some dodgy contract dealings to divulge if they did do that to him

Who said it? The coach that apparently had no control over our roster until last week? What about the comments from Bird saying we pushed him out? Why was Kev’s word good then but you don’t believe him now? Sounds like an unreliable source.

TPJ was all but gone until Lockyer allegedly stopped the move.

Lockyer still had to convince the rest of the board to keep TPJ ...

and Lying is probably too harsh ... misleading / following the party line is probably more accurate.

there could be a number of reasons for this:

1. we're in negotiations with players and trying to stop their managers from milking us dry
2. due to the lack of quality free agents available for 2021, he could be trying to lower expectations, if we don't happen to sign a superstar.
3. we've given all our free cap space to Cam Smith :P

then there is also the possibility that we have actually signed players that haven't been announced yet

also as @Lockysillegitimatechild said ... we still have another 6 spots to fill in our top 30. those players have to come from somewhere and need at least minimum wage

this will be a very very long off season, if everyone keeps up with their doomsday prophecy outlook

All those things could definitely be right, but they are based on nothing of any substance. At least the more pessimistic outlook has form to back it up.
