Better watch your back mateSmokin Joe was Peter Nolan
Bummer, was keen to see jayden get a run with us .Here's something you never thought you'd read: Storm have given Jayden Nikorima a train and trial contract. Meanwhile, the majority shareholder has some advice for Kevvie:
"For the Broncos, Herbie Farnworth must stay at centre with Kotoni Staggs next season. At 104kg, he is perfectly built and terrorised Newcastle with 190 metres and seven tackle busts. Brisbane have had an impressive recruitment drive for next season but they won’t play finals if they don’t sign a big bopper to support Payne Haas. The NSW Origin enforcer looked a one-man band as the only Broncos forward to post 100 metres against the Knights. The Broncos need one more hard-headed front-row recruit to slot alongside Haas in the starting engine room. Meanwhile, coach Kevin Walters must start Albert Kelly at No. 7 for the final month. Starting halfback Brodie Croft had zero runs for zero metres. When Kelly replaced him at the hour mark, the Broncos suddenly had some spark in their attack."
Doesn’t surprise me at all regarding JNik and it highlights exactly the difference between Storm doing things right and us still missing the mark. Here's something you never thought you'd read: Storm have given Jayden Nikorima a train and trial contract. Or a great 14 , either way we missed the boat and got B walters instead.Doesn’t surprise me at all regarding JNik and it highlights exactly the difference between Storm doing things right and us still missing the mark.
As I said before, all of the average depth players we’ve extended or re-signed are okay on their own but when you notice that about 14 players are of similar ability it starts to be a concern.
For example Gamble and Kelly (and for now Croft though the club is thankfully trying to push him out apparently), aren’t both required. These are average players who will help if things go wrong injury wise but you know what you’ll get. There’s no need to waste a spot on both, pick one.
Once you have your reliable, known quantity player in the halves, you can take a risk on a player with a high ceiling but who is below market value. Jnik is a slight risk with potentially massive upside with good coaching. He’d be a great partner for Reynolds if he plays to his ability.
We aren't in a position to be taking a risk on high ceiling/low floor players. Melbourne can take those risks because they have an established spine and have been a the top for a long time, that isn't us.Or a great 14 , either way we missed the boat and got B walters instead.
Could be the better option but niko definitely has the bigger ceiling, luckily walters is a small contract and possibly we can swap if jayden does alright.
Anyway I think there will be more to play out at seasons end.
I actually forgot about Walters, that’s another great example.Or a great 14 , either way we missed the boat and got B walters instead.

Surely a train and trial deal would've been fine, it's not as if we'd be offering a contract unless he earned it.We aren't in a position to be taking a risk on high ceiling/low floor players. It's unlikely we would have all of them if we didn't ship out Dearden mid-season and drop our 1million dollar half.I actually forgot about Walters, that’s another great example.
- Walters
- Croft *
- Gamble
- Kelly
No top 30 requires all of these players. None of them are promising youth or an unknown quantity like JNik.
Ah well, you can’t win them all.
It's interesting how split the forum is on the idea of Herbie at fullback. I've heard alot of points for but very few against other than, "he can't pass".
Does anyone have any reasons other than that? Because even Tedesco was criticised for not passing when he arrived at the Roosters. It was late in the season before he started throwing long balls to the wingers.
@upthebroncs probably did.You know the funny thing ... before Jnik signed his train and trial contract with the Storm, I don't recall too many people, if any, suggesting we give him a shot ... now, however, people are using it to slam our recruitment.

Does Nikorima have a highlights package considering he's played 7 games in 5 years?
Maybe you should go back through my posts, I most certainly did say I wanted to give him a shot. You know the funny thing ... before Jnik signed his train and trial contract with the Storm, I don't recall too many people, if any, suggesting we give him a shot ... now, however, people are using it to slam our recruitment.
I’m not so much slamming our recruitment as much as I am applauding the Storm doing all the right things. I think he could be a great option or a flop, who knows. You know the funny thing ... before Jnik signed his train and trial contract with the Storm, I don't recall too many people, if any, suggesting we give him a shot ... now, however, people are using it to slam our recruitment.
