Well that's the only two teams that have had "success" in the last 15 years.

But I can dig deeper, sure thing.

Panthers JFH on huge money I'd say 900k

Storm/Roostersr the 4 years before that already discussed.

Cronulla Anthony Fifita before he was bad/Gallen

2015 - Lolo - $1m forward (before he was a million though I think)
2014 - Burgess- $1m forward
2013 - SBW- $1m forward
Melbourne again
Manly - Watmough/Stewart - both big money forwards although no idea how much
2010 - Bennett team, no one fancy even in the spine but that's Bennett for you.

Beyond that we're going for the archives but we wouldn't have won the 2006 GF without Webcke and Petero.

I would bet any money if Melbourne had Haas they would pay him 900k with no hesitation.

Who the hell is Anthony Fifita?

JfH is on 900,000 now, not the last 2 years.

Lolo wasn't on anywhere NEAR 1 million in 2015

Burgess wasn't on a million lol.

No storm forward was, already covered that.

Watmough left for FAR LESS then a million a year, was widely, widely reported he was unhappy with their offer. Stewart wasn't on anywhere near a million lol

No Bennett forward hadn't been on anywhere near that amount, his strategy of not over spending on props, or forwards in general is widely known. So if anything it goes massively against your theory...

Thanks for the list, it helped me clarify I was right. Much appreciated lol..

They had Tino and let him go. But on another note, how much of that for Haas would be on the official books?
Tino is good but he's not Haas level and he was offered 750k before he played grade. Bit different from someone who's proven himself to be arguably the best prop in the game.

Rothfield reporting the Haas > SBW > Nasser > Politis rumour now too.

Let’s just hope Payne matures enough in the next 3 years to appreciate when people are trying to take advantage of you.

In saying that, I’ll be surprised if the roosters don’t announce it come Dec 1 2023, the whole thing just seems very choreographed.

And "anthony" fifita has mever been on anywhere near a million...

And Melbourne won't get into a bidding war for haas so that debunks that theory.... does that mean they don't think he is worth that much? Of course not, everyone does. The problem with the salary cap is if you pay every player what they are worth you will have no money left in your cap. Money ball is needed....

In 2020 or most of the way through 2021 if you’d told me Haas might leave, I’d be super dirty.

But by the way things look to be developing at Brisbane in the latter stages of 2021, and assuming the club stays on the same path, if he walks come the end of his current contract - meh, no biggie.

Sure it would be good to keep him, but I get the feeling we’ll still do well without him.

We seem to have some really good young forwards coming through and, perhaps more importantly, a far better balanced squad to ensure the work they do isn’t wasted.

So, moral to the story. There is no like-for-like replacement for Haas, but I don’t actually think we truly need one now that our squad is taking shape.

A starting spot probably. Lazarus was at the end of his time when he went to Melbourne.

Well he was there captain for two years so i guess they saw more than just a starting spot in him,be interesting to know if they signed him before or after his ankle injury.

There’s a Weidler story up on Payne and how he’s taking his fight with his ex manager to the Supreme Court. His contract details have been tabled in court documents :
2017 – $85,000; 2018 – $110,000; 2019 – $250,000; 2020 – $448,000; 2021 – $548,000; 2022 – $748,000; 2023 – $798,000; 2024 – $848,000.
