Winger for winger and on about the same money?

Yep, I’d be willing to take Sivo off their hands.

You know he’s out for probably the whole season right?

That's all good. We have depth on the wings anyway. Put him in plaster for the year then let him loose next season.

We do??

All I can see is:

Likely starters
- Cobbo
- Pereira

Back ups
- Oates
- Isaako
- Mead (fullback depth with Niu out)
- Herbie (if Brenko goes to centre)
- Quai-Ward - maybe, but I think he might be more of a centre than a winger?? Big Pete and co would know more

If you get rid of either Isaako or Oates (several were happy for him to go early as well when Panthers were apparently sniffing) then we're basically left with 2 wingers for depth, moving Herbie from centre or an 18yr old on a development contract (I believe it still requires approval from NRL if it's not Covid related)... I don't think that is exactly screaming depth to me.

I'm not considering guys like Hoeter, Brenko, etc to be wing depth... sure they could be thrown on the wing, but whether they can actually play wing better than Isaako or Oates could be up for debate.

There is a middle ground, we can give him to Parra for a 15 week loan (or in that range), so we have him back end of the year if injuries are killing us, and we can still save 100k or so to put elsewhere.

But we're trying to make the finals this year... and that seems like a move a rebuilding squad would make to save a relatively small amount of cash.

I can definitely respect your POV, your posts are always well thought out but it does come down to how much you rate a player. I'd rather run with 12 than use Isaako this year personally, I just think he's a low IQ players who is more likely to lose us games than help us win them. His only real value is goal kicking if Reno misses games. Oates/Pereira/Cobbo/Farnworth/Mead are enough wing options for me.

That's fair enough and my last two comments were somewhat facetious, but I think Kevvie has already sacrificed enough with how far behind the pack he had to start from and then for it to be compounded further by having large chunks of his cap playing elsewhere last year and carrying through into this year with Lodge and TPJ.

To then undercut him further by punting even more NRL standard players that he can use, and likely chew up some more of his cap (let's face it penrith and parra aren't going to be in a position to be paying much of Oates or Isaako's salary and will be wanting us to foot some it).... and also not forgetting that Jesse Arthars was given a loan to the warriors, maybe Kevvie granted that because he was happy with Oates and Isaako as his depth. Arthars was basically centre, wing and fullback depth, but he could just be sitting on the pine for the warriors all year.

I think it's just a bit much to then be expecting Kevvie to make the finals and compete against the warriors, dogs, panthers and eels, whilst also reinforcing their playing stocks and paying some of the bill just for good measure.

I have in the past been one of the most critical of Isaako (I mean just go and check the live game thread against dragons last year for evidence), but I was praying for him to come on in the trial, because we were getting nothing from Mead at fullback... and as it stands Isaako is likely Kevvie's second choice fullback right now.

To me Isaako always plays his worst when he drops his head and that usually occurs when his position is under pressure (fullback) or his future is unsettled, but as of right now his future is settled, his role in the squad as next man up is settled, and most likely he'll just be playing fullback for Souths most of the year. But already one injury in the backs and he's getting a call up and to be honest he can come in and do a role at fullback when he's in a good mindset.

From the trials I thought he's been ok... I've thought he looked lively on his kick returns and has been able to chime in on the backline to finish off some movements, and I don't recall him dropping any bombs as yet. I'm ok with that, because I think we need spark in the 1 or 6 this year, so if he can bring that whilst also defusing kicks then ok. We can complain about his defence and I think the main complaint would've been about the Marsters try back on the inside?? but the front line was pretty pathetic on that try in general. We'll see how he goes, but he's there as the depth this year... there's also no guarantee that Tesi will do enough to be a top 8 team fullback this year either... I don't really want to live with Mead filling in back there or churning through Herbie, Cobbo, etc. until we land on someone that can hold the spot.

It's probably all a moot point anyway because Isaako has a young kid, so in reality I don't think he'd be all that keen to head down to Sydney for a gap year before returning to head to the Dolphins. If anything I can see Oates agitating for a release if he doesn't make the starting 13 because he will want game time as his future isn't sorted as yet.... Isaako I don't really see agitating for a release so why risk it and release him.

Probably more than anything I'm just over all the churn in the squad... we've been basically going through it since Bennett was getting knifed back in 2018.

To have the squad reset halfway through last year and see the squad somewhat settled through the backend of the year, only to then start seeing top 4 clubs come looking for handouts again has probably pissed me off.

Honestly I just want the back office to put the closed sign up and tell the vultures to **** off elsewhere for their discards and offcuts.

I'm on the fence with loaning out Issako for the year.. on one hand we free up some money for a bloke who will play most the year in reserves but the other side hes a guy you can put on the wing if injures or COVID happens and he is a good depth option on the wing. We've already loaned out Arthur's and it doesn't look like there's a specialist winger coming on the production line.
If it were like the years when we had young blokes like JYY, Winterstein, Kemp coming through yeah pack Issakos bags for him but we don't really have a great deal of specialist wingers in the squad.

Selwyn, Corey, Tesi, Herbie, Jordan, Ethan and David Mead can play wing. Selwyn, Tesi, Herbie, Te Maire and David Mead can play fullback. We're well served for centres as well.

I can only see positives if we move Isaako on this year, hopefully now.

Yeah there's options but probably only Mead, Oates and Jordan with Real NRL experience there. The others could kill it but could also be out of position as much as Xavier Coates was as there top grade experience there is limited at this stage.
Not saying Issako is any better but with the chance of players being out with COVID still lingering this year and injuries having good depth is key.

I'm on the fence about getting rid of isaako now but Jordan P definetly had enough nrl experience on the wing as well...

And surely cobbo has shown enough to give us confidence he can do a good job there. That's 5 players for 2 spots who could at least do a decent job there...

I don't care who we let go, I just want to see us get something in return.

No more of that shit last year where we basically handed the Warriors one of our brightest prospects and literally got nothing back.

I would target one of their second rowers
