Broncos Roster, Signings and Rumours Discussion 2023

I get all the reasons for timing and all for it but why do they have to be 'super secret' at a restaurant out in the open for all to see? I mean, the cone of silence would be more secret than this.

And also, are they actually SURE he verbally agreed? Did they have a translator there?
It was kept secret from the press that he was having contract negotiations with the club. Did you hear about it from anyone else?

Secret from the press in a public setting where literally everyone there likely has a phone with a video recording function?

Yeah, I think this is one for you and Foordy Foordy to wank over. Obviously, it was the nature of the conversation that was kept secret in advance, not that they were eating together.

If you desperately need to do some kind of haha at Badel, consider that he's admitting neither the club nor agent tipped him off they were talking. Maybe you can get some kind of pleasure from that angle.

Contract value, start of season. Get it done while the other mass media is about Haas, Karl Umpalumpa, Robati, Cobbo etc.

Herbie is on a trajectory that is rising very quick. With the right coaching and team around him - IMO he will stamp his own brand in the game. Not many players can do that. Plenty of talent comes through juniors but runs out of fuel into their 20's. Herbie is a different cut in my limited opinion of watching him during games.
Arguably my favourite Bronco outside of Patty

The answer is the freaking organisation that runs the sport should actually do their jobs and step in but we all know isn’t going to happen.

And on the unrelated PR point, who cares how we come out looking, being the nice guys does Jack all in this sport, you have to be ruthless.

Does anyone think the Panthers cared when the media was begging for them to release Burton early and they said nope screw that. Anyone think the Roosters care that everyone laughs about their salary cap shenanigans?

Let’s embrace the incompetence of this comp and use our clout to take care of our own ambitions.
Yeah it's one thing this club has failed miserably at... we're the antagonist of the comp, but seem to be happy playing the dumb carefree nice guy.

Cheaters prosper in this fucked up corrupt comp... wrestling, living offside, tactical 6 agains, salary sombreros, fake HIA's, handicapped draws, game managing refs, manufactured results/ spectacles, etc. etc. etc.

but the broncos continually decide to take a moral high ground and achieve what exactly... miss the finals year on year, get vultured by NSWRL clubs, release players with the privilege of paying some of their wage, win a spoon, lose a generation of fans due to zero day games for 16yrs or so now, be cannibalised by a puppet club down the road, etc.

I guess our management are just happy to have been invited to play in their Sydney comp to begin with

I doubt it because we are willing to release him now if we get a fee.

Be interesting to see what does happen if the Dolphins are willing to pay up the transfer fee to get him if its correct about us not wanting to let him go to them. If he wants to go there, can we stop him? I wonder if legally we could actually do that. I guess we could just refuse a release i guess.
Broncos can decide not to release him if the only offer his manager can conjure together is with the Dolphins

I'm not sure you can legally stop anyone from working for a different organisation, that would probably be classed as a restriction of trade i guess if he wanted to fight it. The not playing against us could work, and as you say, we do hold his contract so we dont have to release him.

Probably though, our best option is just fleece whoever wants him for as much money as possible.
He has an existing contract... walking out on it is also illegal.

Needs to be a mutual decision to cut the contract... or a condition within the contract needs to be met to cut.

Karl getting a chicken sandwich isn't one of those conditions... us refusing to release him to the club antagonizing for his release is our prerogative
